@kevinbikes

I refuse to customize my blog beyond telling you that I refuse to customize it. fuck you

Love totk because it lets me be a chaos goblin who never emerges from my cave

“The oldest olive tree in the world located on the island of Crete. It is estimated to be as over 3,000 years old and still produces olives.”

Damn this tree is old enough that it might have descendants who are a different species.

I've been playing totk with the mindset of 'how many of these problems can be solved by building a dick and balls' and it works surprisingly often

@staff I absolutely fucking hate snoozing tumblrlive every 7 days and it negatively impacts my user experience and pisses me off every time.

the last two times i snoozed it it didn't actually go away either

It really adds insult to injury that every time the damn thing pops back up I go into my dashboard settings and "snooze tumblr live" is still toggled on. Like a little testament to my futile wishes and how this isn't how display preferences are meant to work. So I have to turn it OFF, which refreshes the page, then scroll all the way back down and turn it on AGAIN.

The erosion of "no" into "maybe later" in software is a fucking crime

this is to the guy in the electronics department at walmart who when I approached and said “game” because it was the only word that would come to me, went “yeah” and walked me straight to tears of the kingdom, no questions asked

I literally didn't say a word to the guy at gamestop and he already pulled out a copy.

Tears of the kingdom minlor spoilers below the read more. Zora's domain specifically.

"some reason" :^)

Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, Fukushima If you can GUARANTEE that nothing even APPROACHING those could EVER happen under ANY circumstances Then I will fold to Nuclear Power

Three Mile Island

NO ONE DIED

Fukushima

NO ONE DIED

Chernobyl

essentially a human-made accident through gross mismanagement and neglect, that physically can't happen with other reactor types (in part because they all have containment buildings now). so yes we can guarantee that nothing even approaching chernobyl will ever happen with modern reactors.

even so chernobyl still killed fewer people than the German Atomausstieg has through increased air pollution because of additional coal being burnt

welcome to team uranium!

Love people using 3 mile island as an example. 3 mile island is an example of where things WORKED, that the failsafes kicked in so only a miniscule amount of radiation was released, which not only didnt kill anyone, but no one was injured, no adverse health effects were caused, and there was no damage to the surrounding environment. Despite the incident, the other reactor continued to run until 2019!

And again: the point isn't "do you prefer renewables or nuclear". The point is "everyone fighting againsy nuclear power has further entrenched coal and oil power and caused a LOT more damage to the environment"

I live and grew up near Three Mile Island. If my apartment was facing a slightly different direction I'd be able to see it from my home.

They *did* vent a cloud of radioactive gas and things like cancer rates and stuff bumped up for a while afterwards, so "no adverse health reactions" is probably not correct.

(Obviously, we can't know for sure. They coulda gotten sick some other way! Maybe these people just went swimming in the Susquehanna, which is one of the most polluted bodies of water in the US. But like, idk I know correlation does not equal causation but it sure is looking at causation pretty intently!)

To preface this for those who don't know: I also live near 3 Mile Island (the same apartment, I am roommates with @paperjoshi) and grew up close to a different nuclear power plant (Peach Bottom Power Plant).

And while the 3MI disaster didn't have zero health effects, I think we should also point out that it released a short burst of carcinogens one time in a moment that is considered a complete disaster, and which leads to changes that made nuclear reactors even safer.

Take that in relation to a coal plant which releases sulfur dioxide, lead and mercury into the air every minute that they're active, every day for decades.

The oil and gas plants aren't quite as dirty bit they are also regularly exposing people in the surrounding environment to serious toxins.

I'm not gonna sit here and tell people that no one has ever been harmed by a nuclear power plant. But i will say that it is by far one of our safest, cleanest and most efficient forms of power by almost every metric.

Radiation can be scary to think about, yeah. But that is an incredibly poor reason to turn the planet into a crock pot full of mercury, where we all slowly roast in toxic chemicals until the planet is uninhabitable.

been thinking a lot about anticipatory grief lately. i love you so much that i know losing you will devastate me. i haven't lost you yet but i already miss you. we still have time, but it won't be enough. i think about what i would say at your funeral, and say some of it to you now cause i need you to know how loved you are before you go. you will go where i cannot follow, but you will never really leave me. it won't make it hurt less but it is a part of healing somehow.

TotK sure is Breath of the wild, but do it again. Which makes it still pretty darn good.
