This has the same aura as the birth of venus
One of my latest projects, based off a poster by Arne Ratermanis with my addition of MJ from Spider-Man. This has been my favorite project so far.
Edit: I added the regular photo too so you can see the detail better. I’m so flipping proud of this painting.
*if you’re seeing this twice I accidentally deleted the first post like a dumbass when I was editing a spelling mistake*
To make a long story short my bank fucked me over. I was explicitly told my check I despositied would take a day to deposit, turns out oops their mistake, it’s actually going to take a week. I’m in desperate need of medication for my depression, GERD, and asthma that need to be picked up, and my rabbits need lettuce. My meds will be just over $10 and I can get a few days worth of lettuce for $5. Obviously I’m not expecting anything but frankly I’m just desperate enough to even ask at this point. I jsut wanna get my meds and make sure my buns have what they need. Thank you for listening and reblogging! All of it helps so much 🖤
Thank you guys so much! Everything helps so much you have no idea 🖤🖤
It’s now been over 10 days and the check STILL isn’t available. Basically no one knows what’s going on 🙃🙃🙃 so thank you SO SO SO MUCH to everyone who reblogged and donated! I have no idea when I’ll be getting my money so everything helps so much right now. I was able to get my meds and food for the buns thanks to you guys 🖤🖤
being a self-taught artist with no formal training is having done art seriously since you were a young teenager and only finding out that you’re supposed to do warm up sketches every time you’re about to work on serious art when you’re fuckin twenty-five
someone: oh yeah, do this exercise during your warm ups! it’ll help
me: my what
What’s up I have an actual college degree in art and I was never ONCE taught to do warm ups.
when i was in undergrad, it was kind of mentioned in and offhand way that we should do warmups, but we were never shown what that meant. And, y’know, we were young so it didn’t matter so much.
Being older now and having an art job it’s…kind of essential.
So: a quick primer for those of you who are like ‘ok but how do i actually go about doing this warmup thing.’
1) you may be tempted to do ‘a warmup drawing’ which is just a drawing that will take longer than it needed to and probably be frustrating and kind of bad because you didn’t warm up first. It’s tempting but always a trick your brain is playing on you! Do not trust!
2) warmups will vary based on what feels good to you/what task you’re about to do/what motor skills you want to practice. That being said, some good standbys:
a) circles. Just a whole page of circles on whatever drawing surface you’re going to be using, whether that’s your tablet or your sketchbook or a drawing pad on an easel. For these circles you should make sure that you’re drawing from your shoulder and not your wrist. In fact, you want to be drawing from your shoulder rather than your wrist most of the time! forever! your wrist is delicate please preserve it!
In order to ensure that you’re drawing from your shoulder, when you’re holding your pencil or whatever drawing tool you’re using, the only part of your hand that should be touching the drawing surface is part of the last two fingers–some people prefer the finger tips, but I tend to favor the first knuckles. Either way, the fingers should really be ghosting over the surface, providing guidance rather than support.
I usually start with big circles and then go to smaller circles and lines of ellipses, and then try to fit circles and ellipses inside other shapes i’ve already drawn as a precision exercise, but i don’t do that unless i’m feeling loose
b) spirals! i don’t always do spirals, but if i’m stiff and the circles just aren’t cutting it, spirals are a good fall back. I start from the center and work outward, going both clockwise and counterclockwise until i feel comfortable with the whole range of motion. Some people really care about getting perfect spirals but for me it’s all about making sure i’m comfortable with how i’m moving so who really even cares about how the spirals look. Not me!
c) lines! straight lines! in parallel! i do a mix of vertical, horizontal, and diagonal. These are often more from the elbow than the shoulder, especially if I’m working on a smaller surface. For this exercise, I recommend holding the drawing tool perpendicular with the surface
d) connect the dots. This is a precision and accuracy exercise and takes two forms. The first is to draw two dots and then draw a straight line between them. The second is to draw three dots and draw the curve that connects them. This sounds a lot simpler than it is in practice. Take time to ghost over the line you plan to draw before actually committing to your line. (I don’t always remember where I picked up my warm up exercises, but I’m pretty sure I got this one from Scott Robertson. His how to draw and how to render books are very technical but also accessible and worth checking out)
e) cubes, spheres, cones, and cylinders. These help get your brain into a more volumetric space. I draw multiples of each, rotating the forms around, and I’ll often take the time to do some rough shading on at least a few of them
f) spidermans! This one is really good if you’re going to be storyboarding or working on dynamic poses. Just fill a page full of spidermans doing all sorts of acrobatics.
g) beans. I don’t do beans too much anymore, but I know a lot of people like it so I’m mentioning it here. Fill an area with different size bean shapes without lifting your pencil off the paper.
h) short medium and long line repetition. draw a short, medium, and long line on your page, and then draw directly on top of them 8 to 12 times, doing your best to exactly trace what you’ve already drawing. Repeat with a wavy line. I’m bad at this one, which means I probably need to do it more.
And there are lots more options too! Hit up youtube to see what other people recommend, put together your own go-to list, mix it up when you’re getting bored, etc.
This is a long list, I know, but I usually don’t take more than 10 to 15 minutes to warm up, and I can warm up one handed while I’m drinking coffee, so, multitasking hurrah.
Sometimes I’ll advance to a precision warmup and find that I haven’t loosened up enough yet; it’s totally ok to go back to an earlier exercise! Also, all of this has the added benefit of kind of ritualistically getting you into the drawing mode so even if I’m not feeling it before I start, by the time I’ve gotten to the end I’m usually Ready For Drawin’. Brain hacks.
so, yeah! that’s a lot of words, but! Warmups are important! Save your joints, take less advil, do better drawings!
Most corporate social media accounts use memes to try and appear hip with the kids so they’ll buy their product but the Sparknotes twitter account is clearly just run by a literature geek who was told they could make memes about old books and is having the time of their life doing just that
I’m not seeing anyone talk about the fact that Marvel just cast Alaqua Cox - a deaf Native American actress - to play Echo in the Hawkeye series, so...
(you can totally reblog this)
Please, I know you guys are happy for Elliot Page but I am begging you to talk about Laverne Cox. She and her friend were assaulted in a transphobic attack yesterday and none of you are talking about it. We can't call ourselves allies and celebrate Elliot's coming out while completely ignoring the fact that a black trans woman was attacked yesterday. Please I am begging you to talk about this.
one lesbian to another: to literally anybody joking about how we “lost” lesbian representation when Elliot Page came out, read the fucking room and understand how you’re not funny, clever or original, and just admit you see transmasculine people as betraying lesbians when they transition lmao
also in trans news that should be talked about. laverne cox has stated that on saturday her and a friend were assulted in a park and it’s not really getting the same attention as elliot. we can still be proud of him without ingnoring what happened to laverne and her friend.
if you claim ally ship to the trans community then you can’t ignore the bad things that happen to especially trans woc. and if you’re a white trans person you can’t just talk about other white trans people. it just shows that you only care about trans people if they are white and that shouldn’t be the case.
if your gonna talk about elliot please also talk about laverne. she deserves better and we should all do better to raise up the voices of black trans women.
Please help my family
Those of you who don’t follow my main blog would not have potentially seen that my younger brother attempted to take his life again last week. What matters most is he was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and the paramedics and nurses were able to save him, and he is now mostly physically recovered. However, his workplace does not have paid sick leave, because they’re assholes, meaning he got paid next to nothing due to the extended absence for obvious reasons. On top of that, he’s being penalized in what is essentially ableism in my opinion. (A piece of his paycheck as proof is below the cut, shared with permission.)
Being a low income family means every single financial cut is a crisis point, and we do not have enough to get through the next two weeks on my paycheck alone. Especially counting the outstanding bills we owe on. We have exhausted all other supports available, and that is why I have resorted to asking for help online.
This is not something I take lightly, and it is something I am very, very sorry to do.

I am hoping that if anyone has any money they are capable of helping me out with, you would be willing to do so. I would be so appreciative of anything generously given—it all goes a long way. That includes a sincere thanks to anyone who would share this post, too.

So, let me guess– you just started a new book, right? And you’re stumped. You have no idea how much an AK47 goes for nowadays. I get ya, cousin. Tough world we live in. A writer’s gotta know, but them NSA hounds are after ya 24/7. I know, cousin, I know. If there was only a way to find out all of this rather edgy information without getting yourself in trouble…
You’re in luck, cousin. I have just the thing for ya.
It’s called Havocscope. It’s got information and prices for all sorts of edgy information. Ever wondered how much cocaine costs by the gram, or how much a kidney sells for, or (worst of all) how much it costs to hire an assassin?
I got your back, cousin. Just head over to Havocscope.
((PS: In case you’re wondering, Havocscope is a database full of information regarding the criminal underworld. The information you will find there has been taken from newspapers and police reports. It’s perfectly legal, no need to worry about the NSA hounds, cousin ;p))

Much easier than my usual research methods-
i’m seeing a lot of people reblogging suicide hotlines and this is just a reminder that this is a suicide help line that works like a text-based instant messenger for people who may need to talk to someone but have trouble/are uncomfortable making phone calls
Never don’t reblog this. There are so many people who have such bad anxiety about phone calls. This can save so many lives
i’ll give you one better: extremely happy nat in the black strawberry dress
Ziggler came out with the gay flag on his shoulder and said "The stipulation is that I can do whatever I want and you just try and stop me" and honestly ? We should all follow in his footsteps
