Reading Jack's dorm uniform vignette make me kin vet!yuu frfr
That's not how wolves work. They don't have strict hierarchies like that. that's based on an outdated study about captive wolves that the original fucking author retracted!!
(If you really wanted to extrapolate you could say that like the wolves in the original study Jack is trying to replicate wild pack behavior but that would mean he would be treating Ruggie and Leona like they're his parents which is clearly not what's happening!! And honestly it would be way funnier? Jack just being like "oh it looks like I have a found family" while Ruggie and Leona just sit there like "Wait you mean us?? No??" But that also doesn't really make sense for him so eh.)
Yeah, that vignette was bad. Wolves live in packs but young Wolves might leave their family packs after about 2 or more years to form their own family units. The pacts usually 8-15 wolves so kids don't always leave. They will help their parents hunt and care for pups before leaving which is the stage Jack is currently in. He wouldn't necessarily leave his pack but if he wants more freedom from his parents he would have to.
Jack is a dispersal male. Dispersal groups are formed when a pack splits and leave to find new territory. This means he might band together with other dispersal siblings to hunt while searching for a mate. Otherwise, he would be searching for his own territory and chasing off challengers.
Jack should have no interest in being around Leona or Ruggie. The more realistic angle would be Jack forming his own group to act like his pack but not including Ruggie or Leona since they can't contribute. Mountain lions are enemies with wolves so there is no way Jack could tolerate Leona.
I see Vet!Yuu as someone knowledgeable about wolves enough to emulate pack behavior. Wolves have a complex language of vocal and physical cues but a human can learn them.
I imagine Yuu could become his packmate but if you look at it in a romantic light Yuu could be Jack's trial mate. Trial mates are like dating for Wolves (no they don't just meet and mate for life) They will spend time bonding and hunting together until they are confident about staying together or leave to find a better mate.
Either way, wolves are complicated with unique social structures. Wolves are way cooler than Alpha and Omega nonsense.
