[3/3] “저는 도전을 잘 하는 거 같아요. 교환학생도 도전이었고, 좋아하는 사람이 있으면 고백도 잘 하거든요. 누워있다가 갑자기 부채춤이 하고 싶어져서 한국무용을 6개월 하고, 베이킹 하려고 도구도 다 샀고, 스킨스쿠버 자격증 따러 이집트에 가기도 하고, 배낭 하나 메고 동남아 일주를 하기도 했어요. 대신 저는 끝맺음을 잘 못해요. 사람들은 이게 되게 나쁘다고 말해요. 근데 시작하는 데 의미를 두는 사람들이 많아졌으면 좋겠어요. 저는 책도 드라마도 끝을 내지 못해요. 미드<모던패밀리>도 7년째 보고 있어요. 근데 이렇게 끝을 내지 않으면, 언제든 읽고 싶을 때, 보고 싶을 때 더 볼 수 있잖아요. 한국 무용은 발목이 안 좋아져서 관뒀는데, 언젠가 돌아갈 때 ‘아 내가 이만큼이나 했구나! 기본기가 있으니까 다시 시작해도 좋네!’ 할 수 있고요. 제 경우를 보고 사람들이 마구마구 새로운 일을 시작했으면 좋겠어요. 독일어 한 마디 못한 채로 갔는데도 할 수 있는 독일말이 생겼듯이, 뭐라도 얻는 게 있으니까요.”

  [3/3] “I seem to do well with challenges. I was an exchange student, and if there’s someone I like, I’m good about confessing that to them. If I suddenly want to learn Korean fan dancing I’ll learn Korean dance for 6 months. If I intend to bake, I’ll buy all of the tools I’d need. I’ve been to Egypt in order to get certified in scuba diving. I even went backpacking around Southeast Asia for a week. I’m not good at finishing things, though, and people say this is a really bad thing. But I think it’d be nice if more people saw starting things as meaningful. I also can’t finish books or dramas well. I’ve been watching Modern Family for 7 years. If I don’t finish things, I can always come back and read or watch more of them later. I quit Korean dance because of my ankle but I knew if I wanted to pick it up again one day, I’d already know the basic moves and I’d be able to say, ‘Oh I’ve already come so far!’ So using myself as an example, I think it’d be great if people started tons of things. Just like how I went to Germany without knowing a single word of German but went on to acquire a few German words, starting things does mean something for you.” - HOS Remote Interview Series -
