Vin's like the most anti-vorin woman imaginable. She's the bastard daughter of a priest who wasn't a slave, she has killed hundreds in combat with a sword taller than her, she regularly sees into the future, her boyfriend/trophy husband is a lord while she is about as low as one can be socially, she has no interest in painting or music and while she enjoys balls and gowns she also is just as happy ripping someone's head off. Oh and she has an exposed safe hand.

Anyway point being Vorin world hoppers must have a conniption when they learn about Mist Jesus and all the ways she fought in the most dishonorable ways possible

Okay the funniest thing about this is that everyone’s saying I’m taking away his space by putting things in the window

He has this entire one right next to it with a blankie and he uses it exclusively for people watching. He really only goes to the other window when he decides to be A Menace

Also his name is Banjo

He as a stroller

Omg there been updates!!

Unfortunately, I need Disney to crush DeSantis, completely and utterly. Because if it isn't a complete rout, then other companies without the Mouse's resources (so, almost all of them) won't pick the fight in the first place and will back down the next time a DeSantis tries this.

Disney wants your money.

Fascists want you dead.

Also, pragmatism aside, Disney is just objectively right here. Desantis very very very very very very clearly broke the law to go after a minority. The fact that Disney is defending said minority because they see it as a source of money doesn't change the fact that Desantis broke the law to go after a minority. Like, wider context of Capitalism aside, what we have here is a very specific case where one side is illegally going open season on vulnerable kids, and the other side said "hey, don't do that."

when I was younger, I used to think true love was tumultuous and intense. but now, I feel like real love is gentle. passionate in a soft, sweet way. not fireworks and drama, but a love that’s like coming home, the breeze on a still summer day. a balm to the aches of the world.

I want it known that I voted against Hamilton in every round, even when it was up against musicals I'd never heard of like Spring Awakening. LMM can't rap or sing very well, and the founding fathers were horrible people (except maybe Thomas Paine but that's beside the point). A rap musical is a good idea that I hope more people do, but you need to cast people who can actually rap instead of just casting yourself, and you need to do something more interesting with the plot than just glorifying American history. Not trying to cancel Hamilton or anything, if you like it that's fine, but I'm not into it and my voting very much reflected that.

I am very aware of the sizeable anti-Hamilton voting bloc that existed during the Best Musical World Cup. LMM making himself the lead character in (almost) everything he's made and Hamilton's questionable depictions of history are valid criticisms that I generally agree with.

Perhaps I shouldn't be, but I'm shocked there are so many people out there hating on Lin-Manuel Miranda, noted lowercase nice guy, beloved by just about everyone who's ever worked with him, hugely supportive of actors (recall that when Leslie Odom Jr won Best Actor in a Musical no one has ever looked happier to lose a Tony than LMM), vocally doing his best to do as Sondheim did before him and share his knowledge and use his fame to teach and lift up new composers/lyricists, working hard to honor Jonathan Larson's legacy, like... good lord.

You know why he casts himself as lead, then is happy to step aside and let someone else take that part? Because he knows that if he doesn't write the roles himself, the chances of him (and other Latino men) getting to be a lead instead of sidekick (at best) are, well, not quite zero, but he also has pointed thoughts on how Latinos are usually portrayed.

When I started writing it, no one was taking my words seriously. I was 19 years old and I was just writing a story that I really wanted to write. As we continued developing [In The Heights] and it looked like we were gonna get a production, what I thought about ... And I didn't think about it very consciously in terms of the creating of the show, but it was in my mind, was I was very conscious of the way Latinos have been portrayed before on stage. I was Bernardo in sixth grade, I directed "West Side Story" my senior year in high school. I saw Paul Simon's "The Capeman" my senior year in high school as well, and that show just about broke my heart. Not so much for the show, but the fact that it was 40 years after West Side Story and we still had knives in our hands and we were still gang members.

This bracket and musical!Tumblr are definitely showing me some different sides of musical fandom, I'll give them that! And LMM doesn't exactly need me defending him, so I'll stop here.

Interesting points I didn't think of! I will say that while Hamilton isn't the only historically inaccurate show on Broadway (there are more of those than I can count), it is the only one I've seen that seems to sell itself as "the real history you never learned in school," rather than some romantic fairytale like Anastasia.

Interesting stuff! I will say that for all of Hamilton's flaws I do still think the score is pretty great, and that LMM is still a great songwriter overall.

Besties I am begging you cringe culture is dead it is okay to like things, it is okay to overhype things, it is okay to think things are objectively pretty good but not really your cup of tea

Also literally begging anyone who hasn't to listen to in the heights (the musical soundtrack not the movie one) it is a masterpiece and my all time favourite musical

Oh yeah In the Heights is really good; I love it so much I own the CD!

And yes, it is completely ok to like things regardless of general opinion or critical quality!

Yeah my feelings in general are, is Hamilton a perfect show, utterly “unproblematic” and lacking flaws?

Of course not, there’s no such thing.

Is Lin-Manuel Miranda a perfect human being, perfect writer, performer, representative of his demographics?

Of course not, there’s no such thing.

But from a purely technical perspective, Hamilton is a brilliant piece of musical theatre because LMM has just an incredible grasp of the workings of music and how to use it to tell a story and both convey and invoke emotion. The narrative structure is clean, clear, well balanced, using the kind of character-driven inevitability that is the hallmark of good tragedy. The poetry and wordplay of the lyrics is literally on par with Shakespeare; LMM very directly picked up the Bard’s back of tricks and used them and if you didn’t notice that, it’s because it fits in there so smoothly as to not feel like a borrowed bag of tricks.

Then from that technical point the show has provided and will continue to provide opportunities for performers of color all while inspiring a lot of people to take an interest in this history and sparking conversations about how we portray and venerate or villainize these historical figures and those like them, which I think is an important conversation. There’s also important conversations to be had in critiquing the show and how it handles such things. That kind of critique is very much a part of how culture evolves.

Also, I do want to note that regardless of what you may have seen from some portions of Hamilton’s fan base, the show itself does make a point of showing its characters as multifaceted, capable of both harm and good, both intimately and far-reaching.

No one is obligated to like Hamilton. No one is obligated to like LMM or his music and lyrical styles, his story telling voice, or his singing voice. But just because something isn’t to your taste doesn’t mean it’s bad.

Just because something has a portion of its fandom that is obnoxious and aggressive and seemingly incapable of nuance doesn’t mean the thing is bad either. It just means those people are obnoxious and probably immature. Most every piece of media has those fans, and when a fandom gets big enough those voices can get very loud. If that turns you off of something, that’s a reasonable reaction, but one that carries absolutely no moral weight either way.

It’s a good show. It’s a fun show that a lot of people really enjoy.

If you don’t like, that’s totally fine, but the vitriol is unnecessary.

We’ll find you Amanda.

this has almost 11 million notes what is this

I’ve never seen this post once in 10 years on this site

I’ve never even heard of this before tho??? Wtf??????????

oh my god, I didn’t think there were any surviving versions of this post left

For those who weren’t around in the Deep Lore times, this is one of the relics of the editable post era. This post has THE SINGLE HIGHEST NOTES of ANY post on this site, bar none, but with more than a dozen variations. Every single post you’ve ever seen with more than 3 million notes has been a different version of this one.

This is the “Dean’s Gym Shorts” post. This is the Flubber post. This is the original “Reblog if you support gay people” post. it was ALL of them. before half the site got nuked, it had even more notes than it has now - at one point, well over 15 million, and that was years ago.

This, with no exaggeration, is the ONE TRUE heritage post

i am so serious when i say we as young adults are so starved and deprived of community

like we as a generation - i'm talking especially young adults who are just entering the workforce - are so so lonely! i think about it all the time. between the incoming recession and cost of living crisis + the rise of wfh + processing pandemic trauma so many of us live deeply isolated lives and i think we deserve better...i'm working fully remote and i consider myself lucky because i do have friends that i see regularly but there's a hunger for that place you can go to to be around people in an organic but meaningful way to you that is not being addressed rn! we now more than ever need communities!

This is such a huge thing cause like…we really do have to MAKE these spaces. I moved to a new town for work and was excited to meet new people and make new friends! I don’t really drink, but I didn’t think that would be a huge issue. But then it turns out…all of the groups and clubs and things I was excited to join? They either capped at college graduation or they were only populated by people 50 and up. I’ve looked everywhere, and for someone like me who doesn’t drink, there really isn’t anywhere to go to meet people my age. And those spaces don’t exist because we aren’t ASKING for them.

Even if you’re the most introverted person in the world, you’re still a human being, and human beings are pack animals. We need contact with each other to survive, and right now…I don’t think we ARE surviving
