I was punched and pepper sprayed by cops that my university administration set on student protesters yesterday. Including once where a cop ripped my mask off my face, grabbed my jaw, and sprayed pepper sprayed straight into my mouth. The university sent out an alert in the middle of our protest canceling classes for the rest of the day, only citing “adverse conditions”. After protesters dispersed under threat of even more violence and three buses of riot police from all over the state with rubber bullets and bully sticks parked in front of one our school’s famous landmarks. I staggered over to a couple of friends who were watching on the sidelines. They gave me water and an apple and held a bag of ice on my very pepper spray irritated face. As they were walking me back to my dorm we ran into one of their roommates. She had taken cancelled classes as an opportunity to get crumbl cookie with her friends. Standing in front of her, happy in a floral blouse with her box of cookies, in my pepper spray and water soaked tshirt, keffiyeh sadly hanging off my shoulder, holding an ice pack to my mouth, felt like a slap in the face.

After putting my pepper spray soaked clothes, shoes, and keffiyeh in a plastic bag and taking an extraordinarily painful shower, a friend and I went for dinner just off campus. There we had a pot of green tea and ramen to soothe pepper sprayed throats. We got ice cream after (shared a cup with chocolate and raspberry pomegranate with strawberry pieces on top, it was very good). From our spot outside the ice cream place we watched a steady stream of groups of sorority girls in matching jeans shorts and blue bikini tops walking back to their apartments after some apparently raucous parties. The cognitive dissonance was insane. I really felt a little like I was going crazy.

Even this morning, waking up to the smeared sharpie of the National Lawyer’s Guild’s phone number on my arm, a black and blue chest from where a grown man straight up clocked me while I was held up by two other protesters in a wall, and a still sore throat and eyes from the pepper spray, life goes on like normal. I still have final papers to write and a math exam to review for.

I’m not sure I really have a point. But, this feeling only makes me want to fight harder for a free Palestine. So, fuck Israel for being an apartheid state and all of their crimes over the last 76 years. Fuck university administration for not disclosing their level of investment in Israel. Fuck university administration for not divesting from this genocide. Fuck Joe Biden for actively supporting this genocide. And fuck the police.

The haunting ancient Celtic carnyx being played for an audience. This is the sound Roman soldiers would have heard their Celtic enemies make.

rpg setting with multiple competing units of damage/resilience used in different regions. you gotta worry about the conversion between hp celsius and hp fahrenheit

"1 hp is the amount of damage dealt by a one gram sphere of pure iron traveling at one meter per second against a 1x1x1 meter cube of graphite at standard temperature and pressure" versus "it's so intuitive, 100 hp of damage hurts a lot and 0 hp of damage doesn't hurt at all so you can just think of it as 'percent pain'"

"alright, you're gonna want to sit down for this: so one smarlow (unit barely ever used outside of carpentry) of iron or tin chain thrown at a basket (outdated unit that hasn't really had a purpose in the last 700 years) of rocks with enough force to obliterate them is about 15.9632hp, and if it's falling, then the number of shp (falling damage for some reason) is proportional to the 16shp taken by one grammatical stone (we don't Even have time to get into that) falling like enough to break a brittle dried up bush but not enough to like kill you, and vhp is electrical damage which is Watts times amps using the American wire gauge system, called Freds, but you can't use it without William Julius' permission because it's technically intellectual property, but he died 7 years ago so now we don't know what to do, and the rest we kinda just play by ear because every time someone overthrows the government they change something about it, which happens like every two weeks..."

It will always astound me that zionists and zionist sympathizers just state things completely unsupported by facts. Like they deny don't cite a single fact other than "I just know" or the freaking Jewish Virtual Library which is a known antipalestinian and zionist resource. I can cite Avi Shlaim and Ilan pappe and other antizionist jews and Palestinian scholars and I can even literally point to Israeli state archives (because they document themselves pretty proudly committing crimes ACROSS swana) and then they just don't look. They just pretend they didn't see or they ignore it. Or they cite Wikipedia. Like no actually you cannot make assertions without supporting evidence and then pass it off as unadulterated fact. It frustrates me to no end the complete bastardization of fact and mixing it with Israeli talking points completely seriously.

I can point to actual ISRAELI LAW and they just ignore it. It's literally enshrined in Basic Law that settlement building is a national value. I can point to absentee property law. I can point to freaking imprisonment of children for months on end and they're like "well if Palestinians worked from the inside" like we have! What do you think the past 75 years have been!!!!

And the way they just completely ignore/try to discredit Aljazeera when they employ Palestinian journalists and instead cite nyt or cnn or whatever israeli newspaper... like come on. At least pretend you're not racist.

I feel like people really underestimate the impact that your mode of transportation has on how you see and think about and interact with your city. Like, driving makes your city feel like a few islands, pockets of space where you regularly go and new ones you discover only when brought there for a purpose, but all amidst an ocean of just, filler. Taking public transit makes your city feel like a network of corridoors, a glowing grid along which you may discover new things, but whose alternate winding paths you only take when given to by circumstance. Cycling makes your city feel more human in its scale, and while you can only go so far, the spaces through which you travel are far more often built for people, not machines, and that difference is tangible, while your freedom of movement gives you more opportunities for exploration. Walking can only take you so far, but you see everything meant for you along those places, and every street feels like it carries potential, with no barriers to stopping and partaking of whatever piques your interest. I think, among these, driving is the one that by far most isolates you from the place you live, while the others are, in decreasing order, most utilitarian, and in increasing order, most personally connective to your shared space.
