running out of time

so, we had the first player character deaths last session and @kasiael asked for a little insight of what our resident God / friend / boyfriend thought while Kethra died

They felt the earth rumble beneath their feet and heard people scream. Buildings crumbled; streets tore open. Rannok fell on his knees and held his head, lost to some unseen nightmares. Something had changed. Their friends had broken the barrier and unleashed magic. The whole city of Ostjoll seemed to be on its feet in an instant, ready to finally take back their home from the fallen Order of Bahamut.

“Zaos?” Hella got back on her feet, swords in hands and with sharp teeth gleaming in the darkness. “Be ready for a fight.”

Nodding, he stretched his shoulders and searched for his magic but found his heart missing a beat.

Sitting amidst hams, wheat and caskets of ales, Zaos felt her die.

Kethra.

With their connection severed, anger filled the sudden void in his chest.

“I need to go.” He gritted his teeth. “They’ll not take her from me.”

He’d not lose another love to the dark Queen and her little cult. They’d taken much from him throughout the millennials, love and hope, the best of him, forced him to hide and sleep and forget and lick his wounds like some wounded animal.

And Kethra was so young, so vulnerable, so wonderfully flawed and real. She deserved to live and witness the world change around her, with or without him at her side.

Zaos fought against the panic rising in his throat and the numbness, which made it so hard to move. He tasted blood in his mouth from biting his cheeks and tongue, while trying to control the urge to just withdraw again and sleep on the silver shores of his home.

A part of him was afraid of facing his old enemy, the giant black Dragon, which wings could hide the stars.

Hella looked into his direction, while pushing fallen crates out of her way. “We should have gone with them.”

“I know.”

But with the spell broken, Zaos felt more like himself, closer to his actual power. Magic sparkled around the edges of his mortal form and his eyes held a green glow. He would save her. Her soul still lingered close, not ready to part with her body.

He felt that her brother had fallen too and Zaos also saw Felicitas’ life dripping out. They’d faced an enemy too strong, too versed in her arts and with an army of undead at her side.

Selfishly, he’d always rescue Kethra first. She’d woken emotions long hidden and forgotten since seeing her face for the first time and hearing her pray at his temple. Her voice had called for him and lured him back into meddling with the world.

He'd not let go of her.

His fingers touched Rannok’s forehead and he let the man fall asleep, without dreams for once.

“I will tear them apart limb by limb.”

Hella smiled. “Be my guest.”

@babufactory @teryster you wanted to know what happens in our DND Sessions

So this happened :D

For more context I will try to summarize some things:

We are currently in the city called Ostjoll, which is currently led buy a female vampire lord called Elidar. She disguises herself as a firm paladin of bahamut and she has all paladins of the order in the under her influence. She is also somehow connected to Thakesis and working for her and probably leader of the Dragon cult which is also hiding in the city. One of the paladins under her magic is the beloved brother of Arcelm called Skylar.

Also there was an Anti-Magic-Sphere on the whole city, which prevents all magic which is not from a paladin or is not from magic items.

Rannok was one paladin who could see through the illusion and tried to warn the outside of what was happening. We assume he got caught and was tortured and used in blood rituals for Thakesis, so his mind got crushed in the process.

Rannok could help us get through a secret entrance to the place where the rituals were made and there we found the source of the anti magic sphere. It was a big scale of Thakesis on a monument in the middle of a blood pool. It also played with our minds, which led to uncontrollable anger and/or despair and for some time inparty arguments. Felicitas swimmed through the blood pool, climbed the monument and tried to get the scale down. But as she touched the scale, she failed her wisdom safe and was shortly possessed by thakesis and drained unconsious. Thakesis then vanished probably a little closer to her goal to come back to the world. This led to the earthquake mentioned.

Elidar send Skylar to us to bring us to her. We didn’t want to fight him so we agreed. In the throne room elidar waited for us and seemingly killed all paladins present. And there the big boss fight started. Gladly the magic was restored and we could use it and first the fight went really well until Elidar killed Felicitas with power word kill and transformed the dead paladins to zombies. Then all went south. Felicitas could be revived by dawn, but was blown unconscious again. Kethra was hit strong by elidar and then killed by 3 zombies surrounding her and jaro was led by revenge, hate and blindly attacked elidar until he was also killed. So now just our sorcadin arcelm and cleric dawn are still standing watching all the horror unfold....

The session ended as all the windows in the room were smashed by something (probably angry zaos)

Some more stuff happened, we found some close to death victims which we could stabilize. But i think this is long enough :D

I can’t wait for the next session on monday. I want to see what happens and if we all can be revived again and how it happens and so on. And i love Zaos so much q.q Thank you cat again for writing and dming that game q.q
