i'm not a furry, but it makes me so sad when people are so hard in denial about being one. the amount that these people have been stigmatized for thinking anthro is cool is kind of appalling. "am i a furry even though i'd never buy/wear a fursuit?" yes. that's cosplay. you aren't required to cosplay to be interested in fandom content. being a furry is not a bad thing!!! live a little!!! reblog anthro art!!! the people who matter don't care, and the people who care don't matter
WHEN WAS SOMEONE GONNA TELL ME THAT TUMBLR IS RUNNING ADS ON REDDIT RIGHT NOW???
ten years of fighting and when shit hits the fan tumblr instantly has reddit's back. the greatest enemies to lovers story ever told.

Oops, my hand slipped–
humanizations of websites have returned. nature is healing, capitalism is the virus
People will tell me to Touch Grass and I am just like "I live in the FUCKING desert what grass????"
I am trying but they are so fast and crafty
What he says: im fine
What he means: in Toy Story 2 Woody is treated as the rarest of the toys from Woody’s Roundup when he’s the main character of the show. That would mean he would have had a higher production number than any of his costars, and in fact probably would have been made for the longest and earliest of the toy line. Stinky Pete, by being the fan unfavorite, must have had a smaller run, and less of his toys would have survived in the 50s as kids would have needlessly damaged or destroyed him making him the rarest of the group and Woody the most common. If anything, the plot of Toy Story 2 should have revolved around Al stealing Woody’s hat as it would have been the item most sought after by collectors as it’s easily lost and not attached to an otherwise common doll. Fundamentally, Al’s apartment should have been littered with Woody dolls in various states of damage, all missing hats and maybe a handful of decent condition Woody dolls needing a hat while Stinky Pete is the rarest and most expensive as a collectors item.
@everyone saying Woody was a limited run or some shit like….. y’all telling me the character that got onto the cover of time magazine and had all this fucking merch didn’t saturate the market with Woody dolls? In the 50s at the height of capitalism and the baby boom???
real life be like:
Your error is in assuming that Woody is rare because few Woody dolls were made. Not the case: Many Woody dolls were made- and because of their popularity they were sold and played-with until they were wrecked and - this being the 50s - thrown out. That plastic Woody you’ve got there will outlast most civilizations: but our Woody? With his cloth body and its aging 1950s fabric? By the 80s most of those would be a wreck: cloth-body stuffed toys have a very short shelf-life once they’re out in the world. Store a Woody in the attic for ten years and the mice get him, or the mold, or the simple weight of time loosens the bindings and makes his limbs unravel. And the voice box? With an in-tact, still functional draw strings? Do oyou know how often those things jam? Woody is unique because he seems to have belonged to a family that takes unusually good care of their toys, going so far as to fix them. Toy from the 50s are not in any way shape or form equivalent to modern full-plastic toys or even BEanie Babies, which were sold primarily with a view to the long-term collectors market. There is absolutely nothing weird or strange in a Woody doll surviving in such good quality to 1999 being notable: his popularity and high production rate has zero impact on the toy’s long-term survivability. (Indeed, that high production rate could have even introduced a lot more manufacturing defects into shipped Woody dolls, creating an overall decline in quality.) Just because it saturated the market is no indication of longevity. Yes, Al sure has a lot of Woody stuff - and most of that is very rare. For a good comparison point hop over to ebay and start looking for vintage, no-package Howdy Doody dolls from the 1950s - not the 70s re-releases with 70s materials but the 50s ones. Start judging the quality: the faded fabrics, the dirt, the smudges, the dinginess, and you’ll begin to see why Al freaked out so much: he didn’t just just find a Woody with a hat, he found a Woody who was clean - with no chipping on the hand-painted face, whose hand-stitched hat hadn’t lost its stitching, whose arm break could be repaired by a master who knew what they were doing. A hundred thousand Woodys might have been made in the 50s - but the number that survived to the present day, out-of-box, out of the hands of collectors, in good enough shape to be polished-up into museum-quality condition?I Al found the treasure of a lifetime.
[Fun fact: according to the wiki, Woody’s full name is Woody Pride.]

i’m sorry i’m laughing but this gif set is usually paired with Anakin being a good kind person which makes it sad, but a perspective of Obi Wan telling Luke blatant lies is hilarious
Quick reminder since apparently it bears reminding in both directions: if bigoted people, closed-minded people overall, or your own internalized insecurities misinterpret a queer person’s message in a way that hurts/endangers you, yeah, it sucks, but it’s not the fault of the queer person in question, nor should it be a reason for them to silence themselves. They’re probably as hurt/pissed as you are that someone misinterpreted and misused their message to do harm.
Of course sadly there’ll still be queer people that actually DO mean harm and dismissal to other queer people – I ain’t speaking for those and it’s not the best way to ensure their and others’ wellbeing imo. I’m just saying – not all people will be like that. That’s what I want to believe. So hopefully let’s not put everyone in the same bag, keep supporting each other, WHILE allowing each other to advocate for our own visibility, without having to self-erase or self-censor to accomodate to what haters might say.
It’ll be tougher this way, maybe, because humans seem to like to draw extreme conclusions very quick, but I don’t believe there’s any better way for us all to be alright and stay alright on the long run.
Hi Niuniente, can anyone be considered/label themselves as punk? I'm a big fan of punk rock and the ideals of self expression (more so now more than ever thanks to Hobie Brown + the enterity of Spiderverse) but it feels like I'd be a poser for saying I'm 'punk' due to growing up in a middle class suburbian area.
Sure, why not, if you ask me. Every group, whether punk, manga, lolita, goth, black metal, reggae, cosplayers etc. have their own "Elitists" who will tell you that you need to perform that thing the way X, V, I and P. Then, and only then, you are accepted as True Thing X. But, from my experience, the TRUE people of any genre or underground group are the ones who are most accepting, adapting and supporting of anyone who wants to be in the group. Everyone is a beginner at first, right?
You don't have to earn your rights for underground movements but you're expected to be a certain way once you decide to join in. In punk, resist oppression, aim for equality and kindness for everyone, fight the injustice and just generally don't be an asshole (like so many are). You can do this just simply being a kind, just person, who considers the well-being of others, especially those who need help.
Here are some definitions of punk:
(and you should totally follow @thepunkprophet and maybe ask him this same question! Or, maybe thepunkprophet can leave you a comment below?)
In short; Be genuine and honestly kind and that is enough. It's a far less common than you'd think! Be an ally for those, who need support and who are oppressed by the mainstream.
And if needed, don't hesitate to use your teeth to fight for a good cause.
Do you ever eat popcorn out of the palm of your own hand with such ardent desperation that you feel like both a wild horse and the gentle schoolgirl feeding it treats to gain its affection
Hey there guys. It’s me, in 2022, commenting on this post from 2016. There’s been a lot of people on this site lately being like “oooh no don’t make viral uwu I’m so pathetic, little, and defenseless and my poor notifications can’t handle 10k reblogs” well first of all ALL of us are pathetic, little, and defenseless and secondly none of our notifications can handle 10k reblogs and thirdly I’m not a coward and I think this should have a million notes. Not because of its own merit as a post, I just think it’d be funny if when I turn 30 this year and I reflect on the greatest accomplishments of my life thus far, I have to at least consider putting “famous tumblr popcorn post” on the list
Hey there guys. It’s me, in 2023, in May specifically, I’m 30 and for the record it rules, I had a lil aging crisis and now I’m past that and I’m just like goddamn it is great being in my thirties and I had a wonderful birthday NO THANKS TO YOU GUYS
actually, much thanks to you guys. Some of you were inspiringly crazy about this post. Frankly you worked harder for this than I did, and your efforts were touching and inspiring and funny and yet we STILL FAILED. GUYS WE GOTTA PUT OUR EYES BACK ON THE BALL. We have ehhh about six months before I turn the big three-one, which is actually the most important birthday because now you’re in your thirties For Real, and I personally can’t think of a better way to ring in my 31st year of life than by trying and failing to do something that I was hoping to knock out in my twenties.
Good luck, kiddo
Are you satisfied, op? When will it be enough?
I feel I couldn’t have been clearer about the number at which this will be enough
Wait, which series does Miles Morales first appear in? All these different series are so confusing
Ultimate Spider-Man, in the universe of the Ultimate imprint. It was the best of the Ultimate series.
Cool 👍

This is the most accurate post about getting into comic books I have ever seen.
TRANSFEM!SCOUT!!!!!!! I'm still thinking on what to name her, but for now she'll just be Scout. Any suggestions? Ask box is always open!!
bro, the me inside your head is kind to you, right? haha? 🤨
bro, you wouldn't use my memory to represent your own self-doubt and loathing... right bro?
I love how we were so hostile about the twitter migration but we’ve decided to be chill and welcoming about the reddit migration. The treaty between our two great nations stands strong and we’re welcoming refugees with open arms after the great crisis of ‘23
The beacons are lit, reddit calls for aid
ok no joke what happened to reddit
I only went on there for geology facts, body mod tips, and telling cis witches to stick up for trans folk
Reddit had basically forced out third party app while theirs is just growing more and more shit.
Reddit is gearing up for an IPO (initial public offering of stock on the stock market; they stand to make a shitload of money if investors view them as profitable), and to make themselves attractive to investors, they're increasing monetization of their site.
This means, primarily, that they're hosting a lot of ads.
Reddit, while a very popular site content-wise, is not so great in terms of programming their website, mobile site, and app to create a smooth, efficient, enjoyable user experience, or to let their community moderators do their jobs (a function on which Reddit heavily depends) easily or properly.
So a lot of Redditors use third-party apps which get the content requested from Reddit and display it to the user filtered through their own sites, which are better programmed to be more streamlined and useful and often provide tools with which mods can better moderate their subreddits.
They also tend to strip out the ads, because users don't like ads and the users, not Reddit, are the actual customers of these apps.
This means Reddit doesn't get the same ad revenue when users view its content through a third party app.
Generally how this ecosystem functions is that the content-producing site, such as Twitter, Reddit, or Imgur, charges the third-party app a very small fee per request for a page of data. I'm talking microscopic here: Imgur (Reddit's go-to image hosting service) currently charges $166 for fifty million requests. If my math is correct, that's three ten-thousandths of a cent per request, or three bucks and change per million requests, or a third of a million requests per dollar. Very, very, very small potatoes---but third-party apps, in order to supply their userbase with all the browsing they want to do, sends a lot of these requests.
Apollo, a popular third-party Reddit app, handles seven billion of them in a month.
The cost they thus incur in connecting their users with Reddit via a friendlier user interface is about $23,000 a month.
Reddit has just announced that going forward they're going to charge $12,000 per 50 million requests.
That's not quite one-fortieth of a cent, or 4,166 requests per dollar, or $240 per million requests.
At 7 billion requests, thats one point six eight million dollars a month that a third-party app of Apollo's popularity, or $20 million a year.
That's a price increase of two orders of magnitude.
Reddit just yanked their operating costs up a hundredfold.
The result will be to force them out of business, forcing Redditors to view (and moderate) Reddit on the official website or the official app (which, again, offers a comparatively-sucky user experience and makes the mods' jobs harder than they have to be).
Or, if they stay functional, they would have to charge their users in order to pay Reddit, creating a system where Reddit is incentivized to create a deliberately-shitty experience in order to charge a hefty premium for basic levels of functionality, including, or especially, the moderators whose massive input of volunteer hours for love of their communities make the site work at all.
And Reddit will be able to swarm users with ads, which is profitable.
And I wouldn't be surprised if third-party apps give users privacy advantages besides, which forcing them onto Reddit proper eliminates.
TL;DR Reddit is planning to hold the functionality of the site hostage from their users by jacking up the rent for alternate user interfaces massively to either force them out of business or extort the hell out of the users to allow them to continue to exist, because there's more money in exploiting and sabotaging and cannibalizing their userbase than there is in continuing to provide a decent social media site for the users who granted them their relevance in the first place.
Fandom PSAs
Dont’ Like, Don’t Read
or DL; DR
- You are responsible for curating your own online experience.
- If something upsets you, makes you angry or queasy or triggers you, stop reading/looking at it. Avoid things that might make you feel that way.
- Learn to use the Sort and Filter function on AO3, especially the Exclude tools.
- On social media, block and mute accounts / tags / words when necessary.
- If you hated something, you don’t need to tell that to the creator or start pointing fingers at them publicly.
- The Back button is free. Use it.
Addendum:
Yes, for this to work, creators need to tag their works accordingly, so that people know what sort of content they are about to engage with and can nope out if necessary.
I will probably make another PSA about the importance of proper tagging later.
Ship And Let Ship
or SALS
- You are allowed to ship whatever you want.
- Everyone else is also allowed to ship whatever they want.
- You are entitled to dislike or even hate a ship. If you want to do this online, in public, don’t use the ship tags for hate posts.
- If you see someone posting about a ship they like and you don’t, there is no need for you to start arguing with them in their replies / comments / QRTs / reblogs. Don’t throw your hate in their face.
- Do not harass fan creators or fans for shipping something you disapprove.
- All of this also applies to liking / disliking an individual character.
Addendum:
”I agree with this, except when…”
No, then you are NOT agreeing with this.
Let me make this VERY clear. There are NO exceptions. None.
You don’t EVER harass real people over pixels.
If you disagree with this, kindly block and move on.
Your Kink Is Not My Kink
or YKINMK / YKINMKATO
- The longer version is ”Your Kink Is Not My Kink And That’s Okay”.
- People have different tastes. Not everything is for everybody.
- Even if you don’t like a specific kink, other people are still allowed to use it in their creations.
- You are entitled to dislike kinky content and think that it’s ”weird”.
- Don’t kink shame or judge people based on their kinks.
- This goes both ways: your kink is not someone else’s kink, so don’t push it onto those who are not into it.
Be Kind
or Don’t Be An Asshole
- Focus on the things you like instead of the things you hate.
- Create and unite instead of destroying and dividing.
- Don’t harass real people over fictional things.
- Stop stirring up petty drama just to get some attention on social media.
- Stop trying to ”win”. Fandom is not a competition.
- Remember that your own experiences aren’t universally shared. Your perception of things can differ from someone else’s, but that doesn’t mean either of you is necessarily wrong.
Stop trying to ”win”.
Fandom is not a competition.
To be completely fair, the actual reason that many jurisdictions have laws against shooting Bigfoot is that:
a. Trigger-happy dumbfucks will in fact try to get out of a felony manslaughter charge by claiming that they thought they were shooting at Bigfoot; and
b. Arguing that you were acting under a mistaken but genuinely held belief regarding the situation in front of you is a legitimate defence against most criminal charges, including murder and manslaughter, provided that the belief in question was reasonable at the time.
Basically, the purpose of making it illegal to shoot Bigfoot is to avoid having to litigate whether the “reasonable belief” standard encompasses believing that you saw Bigfoot.
