Law: I cannot fucking take it anymore man. This alliance is killing me. That whole crew is killing me. Every minute I was onboard that absurd ship of theirs trying to keep up with their antics I was inching closer to throwing myself overboard. Because you know Maybe by slowly sinking in the ocean I would've been granted at least half an hour of silence. They tied– Listen. They tied a baby deer to my head. On my hat. Their captain carried me like a surfboard for half a day. I'm at the point where I can hear their arguments even when they're not around. God fucking– Whatever. So overall i would say my general run down when i draw an expression is i first start with the reason for the expression like so:

that fills in any questions i have about the expression, filling it in as much as possible (for example here jodi is also putting away the shopping in the cupboard as the farmer fills the fridge) gives you all the answers you could want.

you can see in this video the general structure of how i form a face typically circle, upper eyelid, eye, eyebrows/nose, mouth, chin/jaw and then details like hair/clothes. sometimes i'll include hairline earlier if it's important. the order in which i draw them is kind of their "importance" for me in conveying an expression.

most of what i keep in mind is the pinch or stretch points when i imagine/pull the expression myself, i broke down the previous expression as an example.

i dont tend to use a mirror much anymore since i can rely on my memory bank but they're very handy tools to get a feel of what changes/where the important parts of the expression are.

Zolu drive me absolutely insane, cause from the very beginning zoro is established as someone overflowing with ambition. He is never one to settle for second place or to even work under anyone. He straight up refused to be a part of baroque works unless he could be the leader, and yet after meeting luffy he just joins him. he has the goal of becoming the worlds greatest swordsman and he decides to follow this random pirate.

and he told luffy, he told him that if luffy ever got in the way of his dream then he should take responsibility and kill himself. and luffy understands!! luffy also is pushing to be the absolute greatest and his dream is his most important thing. this is why both of them have such a blase attitude about death most of the time, because if they die then that's as far as they were ever meant to go, but also at least they do it while pursuing their goals.

this is what makes thriller bark so absolutely insane cause in that moment zoro not only chose to give up his life for luffy, but also his dream. he chooses to take all of luffy's pain and damage, when he knows that its also at the cost of his own dream.

but this moment also shows something else, cause its clear from this moment on that zoro has cemented luffy as a part of his dream. that zoro's dream isn't just to be the world's greatest swordsman, but to be the worlds greatest swordsman alongside the pirate king luffy. hes so endlessly devoted to luffy that the only future he wants to chase is the one where they both are at the top alongside eachother. to the point that zoro would prefer to die than let a future exist without luffy.

they just make me so absolutely feral i cant handle this
