I hope to see a lot of Good Omens fan content about Stanley, the angel who looks like a water cooler.
I too thought the water cooler was an ultra-minimalist, golem sort of angel on the first glance.
Clearly this is a sort of "function defines form" sort of thing. Mike and Ralph are low key messenger Angels, or run those errands where they want to be mistaken for human. Rings, Four Face and Bushy* deliver messages that are more intimidating, or communicate with the more, *cough* dramatic humans. Stan does administrative stuff in heaven and only has a sort of human looking shape because Big G likes it.
*He was the one that talked to Moses, but they wont let him be on fire all the time so he just looks like a tumbleweed in heaven.
Present tense to me is only for dream sequences, altered states and extreme drama.

The paradox of tolerance is only a paradox if you think of tolerance as some sacred and unconditional moral duty. Some ultimate and absolute law with no exceptions, and if you ever slip into the sin of intolerance, you must repent yourself and beg for forgiveness. Yeah no fuck that. Tolerance is a social contract. You're in the game as an equal player for as long as you play by the same rules as everyone else, and if you don't, your ass is fucking out. You're not entitled to the same respect you won't give others.
"Oh so you all tolerate each other just because you tolerate each other, but if I want to destroy you, then all of a sudden you want to destroy me?" Literally yes. That's the gist of it. What's not clicking. This equation is so simple it barely counts as math.
Alternate take - tolerance can be extended to everyone, because tolerance is about what people are and believe, not what they do to nonconsenting others. "Everyone is welcome" but everyone is also held to certain expectations in their behavior.
Religious coalitions operate on this form or tolerance all the time - "I believe that your beliefs are fundamentally flawed and sinful and you believe the same of mine, but we will leave that for higher powers to sort out and tolerate our differences of beliefs (yes, even the intolerant ones) to accomplish a common material goal."
Tolerance isn't endorsement, it isn't support. It's literally allowing something you disagree with to exist. There is no Paradox of Tolerance as long as punishment is reserved for behaviors and administered in an unbiased fashion.
Tl:dr, the issue isnt how tolerance is given, it's how it is defined.
I feel like the HTP/winterbones fandom is very divided on this but I'm curious to know how divided and where everyone stands. Please explain your thoughts and reasoning in the replies or tags if you don't mind! Why do you love it or hate it? If there are specific situations where you're fine with it but not others, what are they?
I love it for a murder-puppy, or a personality growing from an Asset blank slate. When I think of Winter, my first thought is a version of the character who is badass, yet fundamentally innocent in some ways. Sometimes a darker version, but always a personality constructed out of protocols and scraps.
I get all the "Hydra wouldnt use it cause dehumanization" arguments, but considering people cannot be stopped from humanizing actual robots (the stories about bomb disposal teams and their bots are particularly crazy) I imagine anyone who has actually worked with him does all the "it" "Asset" stuff for official briefings and "he" "Winter" "Big Blue" etc in casual conversation.
My family is so ageist. It was fine when my son grew a placenta and ate through it at negative 6 months or whatever, but I want to do it now and I'm a "weird alien nutrient sucker" and no one wants to host...

Okay, consider this Taserbones thought... Triple Agent Rumlow was a reverse honeypot.
He didn't need more people to lie to, or worse, Peirce to have any personal leverage on him. But he's a good looking dude and SHIELD women are not afraid to ask first. If he just turns everyone down he'll be a puzzle, a challenge or on bad terms with the people who support his team in the field.
So he takes all the training he has in reading and manipulating people and... turns it 90 degrees. Takes the dates and then dresses just a little wrong for the venue, is too loud or too quiet, reads what she's looking for in a goodnight kiss and does the exact opposite. They never call back, and he "tries" for a second date just often enough that no one thinks he's blowing them off on purpose.
I don't know if he pulls this on Darcy and she puts it together post Uprising or she is interested in him post WV and gets dozens of warnings. I just love the idea of a "vinegar pot" routine.

Tony and Clint had a little friends with benefits thing going on during the Hydra Base Runs period prior to Age of Ultron, and one of the ground rules Tony set was that they call it off if either of them had something more serious. So when Clint reveals his adorable farm family, Tony cycles through denial, salt and avoidance before shoving the whole thing out of his mind to deal with Ultron.
Afterwards of course, he goes back to anger because damn it, Barton, you could have used any number of excuses to drop our thing when you knew I wouldn’t have accepted this and instead you lied to me, what the hell? And they have a huge screaming blow up with all number of regrettable accusations, leading to cutting all ties once neither is full time with the Avengers.
And that’s why Hawkeye was an OOC raging asshole in Civil War.
