I occasionally post original content

the way tumblr is trying to distance itself from being a blogging platform is fucking. infuriating!!

like do you not know this is your strength!!! I want to be able to visit other people’s pages that have been CUSTOM MADE for their purpose!!! ARTISTS HAVE LINKS AND TAGS FOR THEIR ART!!!  COMMUNITIES AND HELP/TUTORIAL BLOGS HAVE TAGS FOR SPECIFIC QUIERIES!!! WRITERS CAN LINK ME TO THEIR STORIES!!! IT HELPS BOTH THE POSTERS AND THE CONSUMERS TO MODERATE THE EXPERIENCE TO THEIR LIKING!!!!

SENDING PEOPLE TO THAT UNSLIGHTLY “BOARD” OF A “BLOG” THAT APPEARS NOW WHEN YOU CLICK THE NAME OF THE BLOG INSTEAD OF SENDING YOU TO THE ACTUAL BLOG IS SUCH A DUMBASS MOVE? IT DOESNT EVEN ALLOW LINKS!!! I CANT DO SHIT ON THERE!!! I CANT FIND WHAT IM THERE FOR!!!! IT MAKES ME NOT WANT TO USE IT!!!!

TUMBLR IS/USED TO BE THE MOST FLEXIBLE AND THAT WAS ITS BIGGEST MERIT!!! YOU HAVE ONE OF THE BEST TAGGING SYSTEMS AND YOU WONT LET ME USE IT TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL!!!

YOU CAN FOSTER COMMUNITIES, YOU LET PEOPLE KEEP MULTIPLE SIDE BLOGS WITHOUT HAVING TO SIGN IN WITH A DIFFERENT EMAIL, YOU ALLOW VIDEOS AND AUDIO AND +4 PHOTOS PER POST!!!! TWITTER CANT HAVE THAT!! TIKTOK CANT HAVE THAT!! REDDIT CANT HAVE THAT!!! FACEBOOK CANT HAVE THAT!!!

IM SO SICK OF THIS TWITTERIFICATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I was scrolling and saw this image in an article about the European heat wave,

And was like, uh, are you missing something there, buddy? Like all that red in northern Africa? Because that's a lot of red.

And I was going to give them the benefit of doubt, since I don't know much about the climate in Northern Africa, aside from Morroco and Egypt, which seem like really hot places, so you know, maybe it's normal there?

But nope, that's not the case:

Some selections from the article:

"The region has been experiencing some of the most intense heat waves in recent years, but in many cases they’ve been under-reported due to misconceptions about Africans’ ability to withstand them.

“Africa is seen as a sunny and hot continent,” said Amadou Thierno Gaye, a research scientist and professor at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. “People think we are used to heat, but we are having high temperatures for a longer duration. Nobody is used to this.”

"The Sahel, for instance, has been heating at a faster pace than the global average despite being hot already. Burkina Faso and Mali, both in West Africa’s Sahel, are among countries that are set to become almost uninhabitable by 2080, if the world continues on its current trajectory, a UK university study found. Its people are especially vulnerable due to shrinking resources, such as water, and poor amenities, and a dearth of trees and parks means there are few options for places to cool off."

Okay, so the part of the video I have THE strongest opinions about are around when the two start talking about Ian's judgment toward Anthony's past toxic relationship. Ian says rightfully that he wanted better for Anthony but it wasn't his business to interfere, Anthony then tries to counter by saying if they were still better friends it could have been his business to say more.

NO

I have seen this so many times both personally and as an outsider that telling your friends or loved ones your honest opinion about a shitty SO does NOT work out. If Ian had been honest that Anthony's relationship was bad the real reaction would not have been an understanding of his point of view, Anthony would have just doubled down. Which he did anyway when he found out Ian WAS judgemental of them, just not to his face. The main difference is that when Ian said nothing it created a rift, but they held together what they could after the fact, whereas had he actually confronted him and been honest the friendship would have straight up died right then and there.

Anthony has hindsight to think he would have been more open to Ian saying something but the fact of the matter was he wasn't. He even confirms that fact when he goes on to talk about having to ''prove Ian wrong'' because again, people in relationships never want to think they made a wrong choice or that their judge of people is off base. To be confronted by anyone that none of that is true doesn't lead a lot of people to be like ''oh yeah, maybe you have a point'' it's more like an insult, like how dare they think I'm not a good judge of others, that I would date a bad person, that my love is so easily manipulated...yet that's exactly what happened.

And it sucks. It really does suck when you're in a situation like that as the outsider of someone you really care about and can literally see how fucked up it is and how little you can do to actually help that person. I really feel for Ian in that situation just maybe not as much as I end up feeling bad for Anthony who experienced that firsthand because it IS painful. I've been in Ian's position with a relative and it's awful, you're left watching someone you care about walk a path you know is bad for them and it's tearing a rift in all their other relationships and you either have to suck it up and try to remain a connection so they don't lose ALL of them or you risk being another causality that's cut out of their life completely.

I'm glad that's all in the past now, but I did think it was a bit unfair for Anthony to think Ian could have done more when really, the fact he stayed friends with him at all WAS everything he could have done for him at that time. The real worst-case scenario was that he eventually cut himself off from everyone to appease a toxic partner/relationship, but Ian didn't abandon him even when that rift was created.

I completely agree with this. All I could think about during that part was how that just wouldn’t have been true and Anthony’s reaction definitely would not have been one of understanding. As you said op, Anthony’s looking back on this with hindsight, and that’s all well and good but it definitely wasn’t fair for him to put that on Ian that had they been better friends at the time Ian’s concerns for the relationship would have been met with understanding.

Anthony at the time, whether their friendship was in a good place or not, would have immediately went on the defensive. Which he confirms he did do, even though Ian didn’t know about it. And that had nothing to do with them just not being as close. Anthony was insecure, and so as a result he tried to “prove Ian wrong” and ended up getting hurt in the long wrong. And trust me, I feel terrible about what he went through, hell I lived through that time, and myself, as well as many other fans could see what that relationship was doing to him. It was rough.

But Anthony looking through that period of time with a 2023 lens and saying that if Ian had only just spoken to him at the time I entirely disagree with. That wasn’t on Ian to do. Anthony just as well could have spoken to Ian about those messages he saw. But his reaction to seeing only those messages and creating a silent one-sided competition to “prove a point” tells you all you need to know about what his reaction would have been had Ian come to him directly.

As op said, Ian supported him in the best way he knew how at the time - he stood by him and remained his friend throughout it all. Was that the healthiest option looking back on it now? No. But it was the healthiest option at the time.

Anonymous asked:

Are you in the smoshtwt? Check out BaileyWhelan's tweet about S's stalker

UPDATE: Rachel from Smosh crew has acknowledged on Bailey's tweet now.

Yes I am. I didn't really want to talk about this one because it can lead to bullying but since it's getting more serious here is the tweet

Pretty much all the smoshtwt are discussing about this and Court, Shayne and Damien have been tagged on Twitter. I'm sure Smosh would know about it soon as well. So PLEASE DO NOT go and try to hate talk with her!!!!!! Her mental state is pretty much declined a lot from all the other people trying to bully in TikTok and it might lead to even more worse situation. This required medical professional and I hope her family will get the help for her.

I REPEAT. PLEASE DO NOT GO AND HATE TALK WITH HER. IT MIGHT LEAD TO EVEN WORSE SITUATION.

honestly the human brain is so small that you *will* forget how much beauty there is out there to experience unless you leave your house every three days. ik its fucked up but i promise its true

For the record I told my date I don't tend to call myself a lesbian and that I wasn't into kink and she was just like "oh okay. let's get ice cream" so maybe being normal about it is possible, you guys

Allow me to elucidate, @a-sour-nectarine

When most people "roll their eyes", they flick their eyes directly upward, usually as far as they comfortably go, then resume looking normally.

When someone who learned the phrase before the behavior does it, they usually go in a circular (ish) motion. Since most eye movements are lines, it's usually pretty triangular: the key points are usually a diagonal up one way, then to the far other side, then to a diagonal low the first way. Thus, the eyes basically make a loop, so they "rolled".

I've found that when people who learned the up-down way first try the circular motion, they might risk motion sickness, so experiment carefully.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN MOST PEOPLE JUST LOOK UP

IS THIS WHY PEOPLE THINK I’M ROLLING MY EYES WHEN I THINK AND LOOK UPWARD

The Ts'íts'àsh (Firish) Language from Elemental

Ìf báì!

Jessie Sams (@quothalinguist) and I created a language for Pixar's latest film Elemental. We created both a spoken language and writing system that are used in spots throughout the film. It's out today, so if you watch it, see if you can spot any of it! We had a lot of fun creating a language the requested "sound like fire". A tough thing to do with a human mouth, but we had some fun with it! Some language highlights:

  • Ejective consonants
  • No nasals
  • Fricative nuclei
  • Fluid (ha, ha) case system
  • Glyphs that resemble braziers

If you check it out, we hope you enjoy it!
