To Be A Lover And A Fighter - (Chaptered Fic) Sapnap and Dream have played hockey together for basically as long as they can remember. They're best friends, always there for each other. What happens when they get older and one of them catches feelings? What happens when they can only really see each other when they're playing on opposite teams? Is it really only one of them that has feelings for the other?

The Joys of Middle Spoon - George is finally in Florida and he knows what he wants from his other two best friends, but will they feel the same? Sapnap knows that Dream and George will end up leaving him behind, whether he wants them to or not, and he's fine with it... really. (Like they could ever leave him behind). Dream doesn't know how to cope with the fact that he's pretty sure Sapnap and George have a different connection than he ever thought that they would... he also isn't sure how to cope with the fact that he wants to be right in the middle of it.

Julie and the Phantoms

If You Scream in a Museum and Nobody Can Hear You, Do You Make a Sound? - Willie is trying to deal with everything that has happened, the best way he knows how. By screaming in a museum about all that he's lost. Alex is poofing all over LA to try and find Willie so that he can know that Alex is okay. Will they find each other? If they do, what will happen next?

Blue Roses (Chaptered Fic) - When he sees all of his other friends in their relationships, TJ starts to feel like he will never have someone who cares about him as much as his friends care for their significant others. Cyrus decides that TJ deserves to know that someone cares about him as much their friends care for their significant others, so he decides to leave TJ anonymous gifts.Will TJ find out who is leaving the gifts for him? Will Cyrus be able to pull this off without getting caught? Will either of the boys ever realize that the person that they like is right in front of them, and likes them back?

Lazy Saturday -  TJ is having a lazy Saturday, and Cyrus comes over to watch a movie with him, only to be surprised by TJ's soft look. Cyrus is too tired to control his mouth, and both boys end up sharing things that they never thought they would.

The Talent Show - When Buffy gets sick, Cyrus decides to perform in the talent show on his own. He feels pretty anxious about doing it, but thankfully he's got his friends and family to support him, no matter what. TJ wants to show Cyrus how much he cares about him, and supporting Cyrus in the talent show seems to be the best way to do it.

You’re Not Jonah -  Cyrus is at the airport to pick up Jonah, his best friend, after Jonah’s been away for a few months. He decides that the best way to greet Jonah would be to surprise him by jumping on Jonah’s back, but what happens when the person whose back he jumps on isn’t Jonah?

On Time is Late - Sequel to “You’re Not Jonah”. Cyrus and TJ go on the date that Cyrus owes TJ for jumping on his back at the airport. They find out they have a lot more in common than they thought. Cyrus can't help but share the good news with his friends.

Freckles - TJ and Cyrus are finally having a sleepover, after planning one for months, and it turns out that overtired TJ is very touchy TJ. TJ is also surprised to learn that even after being friends for almost a year, Cyrus can still shock him.

Painted In Our Hearts - In a world where everyone gets a soul mark on their thirteenth birthday, this story follows Cyrus, Buffy and Andi as they find their soulmates. This is a multi-part fic but all of the sequel parts are linked in the piece and also the Ao3 link.

Oh My God They Were Roommates - TJ and Cyrus have been roommates for a while, and TJ is starting to realize that he might have feelings for Cyrus. When Cyrus asks if TJ's cool with Jonah coming over, TJ feels his jealous start up and so he tries to tell Cyrus how he's feeling, but Cyrus misunderstands what TJ was trying to say and thinks that TJ is secretly homophobic. Will TJ be able to explain what he meant to Cyrus?

You Purr When You Sleep - Jonah and Libby decide to watch a movie, but Jonah falls asleep. Libby learns that there is actually more than one reason that her new nickname for him makes sense.

Mount Rushmore Plays a Major Foul - Cyrus, Buffy, Jonah, and Andi decide to go to Costume Day as Mount Rushmore, but TJ asks Cyrus to be part of a matching costume with him. Will Cyrus be able to match with TJ? What if he gives TJ the answer too late? We'll see what happens.This was more or less my prediction for what would happen in 3x13. I was wrong,,, but this is still cute.

The Apology - TJ knows he messed up, but he doesn't know how to explain the situation to Cyrus. When TJ finally comes up with a way to apologize, will Cyrus accept it, or will TJ lose him?This is a fix-it fic for 3x13. This is not how I think the actual apology will go, I have literally no clue how that will go, but please enjoy anyways.

These are in the order of my most to least favourite by fandom,,, but I still like all of them a lot.

I love the "glasses are disability" thing because it applies to basically every complaint abled people have about disability

  • "You're not even that bad, why would you get that?" Have you ever used a magnifying glass for small details or zoomed in on a picture
  • "Why do you have that accommodation TODAY?" Why do you wear reading glasses when you're reading
  • "It seems like your 'needs' are inconsistent." Yeah and you wear sunglasses when it's sunny and not all the time
  • "But you can technically walk without that." Yeah and if I put the page really close to your face you could read it, it would just hurt and be hugely impractical, inconvenient, and limiting
  • "But you COULD go without it all the time, you don't NEED it to live." And maybe you could technically see without your glasses, doesn't mean it's comfortable or practical day to day
  • "If you REALLY had a hard time seeing you would have glasses." Have you ever known someone who couldn't afford a new pair of glasses? Or eye appointments? Someone who needed vision therapy or special prism glasses? Someone whose vision only gets bad during migraines or seizures? Someone with astigmatism that glasses can't help? Someone who didn't qualify for LASIK?
  • "You only use it when you're out in public." Have you ever gotten up to use the bathroom at night without putting on your glasses
  • "Decorating it is just trying to get attention, and it's a medical device so stop glamorizing it." Do you hate any patterned or colorful glasses frames too? Art with characters who wear glasses? People who make OCs with glasses? Glasses chains, prescription sunglasses, aesthetic fake glasses with tinted lenses?
  • "There are secretly lots of people just using aids for fun and attention." There are secretly lots of people wearing fake glasses or colored contacts for fun and attention, it does not affect you
  • "We need to find fakers, they're stealing disabled resources!" Someone pretending to need glasses is "taking" a seat in the front from someone who might need it more. That sucks and they shouldn't do that. But I'm not going to scrutinize every person who wears glasses to see if I think they really need that seat. You personally are not the arbiter of who is (based on the random times you've seen them) secretly not disabled
  • "My friend has that and doesn't act like that." Does every pair of glasses in production, or even every pair close to your prescription, work for you? Is your vision identical to every other nearsighted person?
  • "If you can do X why can't you do Y? Some people with that can do Y."/"But if you have that how can you do X? People with that can't usually do X." Some people are nearsighted and some people are farsighted and some people are both. Some farsighted people can read some without glasses and some can't. And good distance vision doesn't mean you don't ever need glasses, it's just an entirely different reason you'd need glasses
  • "You're too young to need that." And there are young people who need bifocal lenses
  • "Why don't you use this DIFFERENT aid though, it would look like you didn't even have an aid." Why doesn't everyone in the world wear contacts
  • "Why can't I/my friend/my kid play with it?" Do you let random strangers and children try on your glasses at the grocery store
  • "I was just trying to help, I thought you'd need a push/you were in the way." Are you cool with me suddenly pulling your glasses off your face to clean them, or because the glare was distracting me
  • "You'll eventually stop using it though right?" Are you planning on no longer needing glasses someday

the name heather au is kind of a misnomer. its actually based on the song heather by conan gray not heathers the musical. basically it's about three guys who are in love with each other, but each of them think that the others are only in love with each other.

Fanfiction Authors: HEADS UP

(Non-authors, please RB to signal boost to your author friends!)

An astute reader informed me this morning that one of my fics (Children of the Future Age) had been pirated and was being sold as a novel on Amazon:

(And they weren't even creative with their cover design. If you're going to pirate something that I spent a full year of my life writing, at least give me a pretty screenshot to brag about later. Seriously.)

I promptly filed a DMCA complaint to have it removed, but I checked out the company that put it up -- Plush Books -- and it looks like A LOT of their books are pirated fic. They are by no means the only ones doing this, either -- the fact that """publishers""" can download stories from AO3 in ebook format and then reupload them to Amazon in just a few clicks makes fic piracy a common problem. There are a whole host of reasons why letting this continue is bad -- including actual legal risk to fanfiction archives -- but basically:

IF YOU ARE A FANFIC AUTHOR WITH LONG AND/OR POPULAR WORKS, PLEASE CHECK AMAZON TO SEE IF YOUR STORIES HAVE BEEN PIRATED.

You can search for your fics by title, or by text from the description (which is often just copied wholesale from AO3 as well). If you find that someone has stolen your work and is selling it as their own, you can lodge a DMCA complaint (Amazon.com/USA site; other countries have different systems). If you haven't done this before, it's easy! Here's a tutorial:

HOW TO FILE A COPYRIGHT COMPLAINT FOR STOLEN WORK ON AMAZON.COM:

First, go to this form. You'll need to be signed into your Amazon account.

  • Select the radio buttons/dropdown options (shown below) to indicate that you are the legal Rights Owner, you have a copyright concern, and it is about a pirated product.
  • Enter the name of your story in the Name of Brand field.
  • In the Link to the Copyrighted Work box, enter a link to the story on AO3 or whatever site your work is posted on.
  • In the Additional Information box, explain that you are the author of the work and it is being sold without your permission. That's all you really need. If you want, you can include additional information that might be helpful in establishing the validity of your claim, but you don't have to go into great detail. You can simply write something like this:

Out of mild curiosity I scrolled through the amazon seller for a bit and I’m nearly convinced all their books are stolen stories. I didn’t check the cookbooks, cause that feels tricky to check on mobile, but I did randomly check this book

First off I’m IMMEDIATELY suspicious that all the authors on this are the publisher but okay. Then I see the summary.

Not characters I’m familiar with but that’s okay, there’s a lot of media I’m not aware of. So I google the summary and the first result is the book being sold by Barnes & Noble.

Cool! Except the second result is this tumblr post

I interned at a place w butterflies and had to tell a mom to please stop offering the “snacks” on the pedestals to her kids and we had to give a speech to all the ppl who entered which I added lines to daily. Including the infamous “butterflies like fruit that’s a little older than what we eat, so the fruit is just for them! Please don’t eat it!” And “please please please please please don’t come in here if you’re afraid of butterflies.” It was the closest thing to hell I’ve ever experienced

One advantage of not really having a strong sense of gender identity is that you’re very [shrug emoji] about how people gender you. Sometimes people call me by she/her pronouns and sometimes they go with he/him pronouns and on the internet people often default to they/them, and neither option is entirely right but also, fuck if I know what would be right, and I don’t particularly care. Therefore I’m perfectly happy to outsource my gender identity to the people around me who actually need to figure out which box to put me in. I don’t need to talk about myself in third person, so really my pronouns sound like a you problem.

Very fond of macrolabels, like “queer”, that provide zero extra information. Is it genderqueer? Is it romantic/sexual orientation queer? Is it queer as in “none of your fucking business what’s in my pants and what I do with it and with whom”?

Listen. This is what people are talking about when they say that if you gave people a fucking UBI, folks would still work. Even “menial” work is beloved by various people if it’s given the respect it deserves and folks dont need to worry about - um - starving to death and dying of illness?

I legitimately love delivering pizzas! If it were sustainable i wouldn’t mind at all doing it for the rest of my life! One of my best friends absolutely loves cleaning, and the only reason she quit cleaning professionally is that she was sick of the ways she was treated. My stepfather has been a carpenter and construction worker for 30 years, despite being a highly qualified graphic designer and architect, bc the man just fuckin loves construction work. For every “menial/undesireable” job available, there is someone who is happy to work it, if not for the stigma and need to survive. And for the truly awful ones? Like slaughterhouse cleanup, sewer maintenance, roadkill pickup, etc? With UBI they could almost all be mechanized, saving people from having to do grueling and dangerous jobs they really don’t have to do.

There are even people who will do those jobs because they recognize that they need to get done. Those people may not love the job itself but they take great pride in doing something that needs to be done.

People don’t just work for free doing jobs they love. If there’s a niche there will always be someone willing to fill it.

I talk shit but I actually don’t genuinely truly HATE retail, what I hate is how people (customers and employers) use, abuse, overwork, and generally treat the employees like shit

If I could have reasonable hours and accommodations for my limitations and be paid enough to survive without being asked to do 25 jobs advertised as 1 job and had UBI to ensure I could leave if it was too much/I was being mistreated/taken advantage of by employers looking to overwork employees to make more money I’d be totally happy to work retail as long as I physically could

Were it not for my disability and if it paid enough and I wasn’t treated like crap I am not kidding I would be happy to work at a movie theater probably for the rest of my life, I loved it that much.

Trust me, for every menial job that “no one would want” there is a person who would LOVE to do it. Forget that “I don’t dream of labor” stuff in a perfect world people would still work because there are people who genuinely enjoy working; It’s being FORCED to do it in shitty conditions for crap pay lest we starve to death or end up unhoused that’s the problem, not work itself.

One of the best jobs I ever had was cemetery landscape maintenance.

It all comes down to this: People don’t mind working. It isn’t work that people dread or are sick of. It’s working conditions.

Pay people well, respect them (and don’t allow customers to disrespect them), accommodate their needs, and people will work their asses off and more often than not do it happily. Work itself is not demeaning or soul-draining. Jobs don’t have to be that way.
