the seal at the bottom of 瓷器 ciqi/chinese porcelain is handwritten
I can’t even comprehend this degree of delicacy, my own handwriting looks like I was holding the pen between my bum cheeks.
@dancinggrimm That was……that was perfect.
Maybe the video is just really old
This is so wholesome
Update: he finally got the cat to the vet to see if she had a microchip
I was already on board with his sweet wholesome open-to-love-and-nurturing heart but I was fully unprepared for getting to that last tweet and seeing how off the hook HOT dude is
CAT DAD IS BACK
aww, the kids grow up so fast. ;-;
HHHHHHHH I LOVE CAT DAD!
This is, by far, the single most adorable fucking thing I have ever seen.
update:
I love that he kept …. All of them.
I’ve reblogged the earlier part of this thread before, and the new stuff makes it even better.
This is the Tumblr equivalent of a warm hug on a cold day.
You’re welcome.
I remember this thread, but I never saw the grown-up pics ❤
All hail Catdad
I saw Catdad for the first time today, and my day instantly became exponentially better.
I’M CRYING!?
CATDAD HAS REVIVED MY WILL TO LIVE
I live for cat dad-
Cat dad has saved us all
CAT DAD!!
I had not seen the updates. I am so happy that the Cat Gods smiled upon this person and their new family :)
He’s got more recent pictures (and is also an INCREDIBLE artist), but this is the fam circa May 2020 :>
Cat Dad is a perennial reblog.
Happy Friday!

And in case you think he’s only this cute with cats, think again:
reblog and put in the tags what your childhood password that you just stuck with is!
How does anyone hate kids they are so funny I sold tickets to incredibles to this little girl and her mom and she’s like mom are we sitting next to each other and the moms like ya and the kid screamed YES so loud it broke my ears
The other day I was bringing an older gentleman up the hill in a golf cart and we drove past this huge YMCA group of kids like 100 kids and driving past the first chunk like 10 of them yelled out “let me on” in unison and then since I’m driving so slowly to be safe, halfway in some kid leaned up and said “do you play fortnite” and I told him I played a little and he just pointed and shouted “THIS GUY PLAYS FORTNITE” and then like 20 kids started talking to me all at once about fortnite
A kid asked me if I lived in the ambulance. I said yes.
The hero we deserve
When I was on register at Kohl’s a little girl came through with her grandma and she was so very excited to tell me the meaning of her name (I think it was like warrior of god) and she begged her grandma for her phone so she could google to find out what my name means too
i wear two spinner rings on one finger and one time at my last job a young girl (probably 6-8) said “your ring is very pretty” and when i showed her it was two rings she GASPED and said “does that mean you’re marrying two people?!”
I have this necklace with a mermaid on it that I wear to work a lot and I got asked by a kid if it gave me magic powers. I leaned in real close and told her in a low voice it gave me magical girl powers but it was a secret. She got this real serious look on her face and said to her mom “that lady has superpowers, don’t tell anyone or the government will take her away”.
The other day i had to give a speech at my school despite my horrific fear of public speaking and afterwards i had kid come up to me and say well done to me. It was so cute.
god I love tiny kids
there was a kid in one of our science camps and he spent the whole week in a lab coat and goggles screaming “CHEMICALS” at the top of his lungs. he wouldn’t even tell us his name for the first two days just screamed CHEMICALS instead.
I was watching these kids at church today and one of them screamed and threw a toy car into the wall and it broke and the other one looked over calmly and said “does your insurance cover that?”
I was taking the drink order for a family at work and I asked their kid what he wanted to drink and he just looked at me with a completely deadpan expression and said “vodka” and me and the parents just fucking lost it
kid I used to babysit asked why my lips were different (she was two), and when I told her that it was because I was wearing lipstick, she yelled, “MAYA, I WANT LIPITZ.”
I work in a school and every time I draw anything on the board (I am a terrible artist and usually resort to stick men), the kids will all go ‘I love your picture, that’s a great drawing Miss’. So blindly supportive.
One time my younger brother ordered a “non-alcoholic fanta” at a hotel bar and the bartender lost his shit and I was never the same man
When I was student teaching, I was taking my fourth graders back from lunch and noticed one little girl looking longingly at the playground, where the younger kids were having recess. She heaved a big sigh and said, “I used to be that free.”
oh my god little kids in the library are the BEST one time i was looking for a book and a little girl tried to help me cause we always help HER find the books she wants. sometimes when i’m helping them check out they’ll tell me about the books they’re getting. i know so much about dog man.
oh man! another hilarious thing kids in the library do! they will straight up TELL ON THEIR PARENTS!
mom: the book was like that when we checked it out
child, innocently confused: i thought (little brother) did that though?
dad: yes that’s our correct address and phone number
child, barely paying attention: we MOOOOVED!! :D
parent: we never checked that book out
child, trying to be helpful: yes we did, that’s the one we lost at grandma’s house, remember?
me, fighting laughter and trying to decide whether or not the enter the child’s testimony as official evidence or not
I know I’ve told this story on Tumblr before, but one of my favorite retail experiences was when I was stocking shelves once and dropped a couple of small plastic toys, and a little girl ZOOMED up, grabbed them, held them up to me, and when I thanked her, said “I’m closer to the floor, so it’s TEAMWORK! :D” and zoomed off back to her mom
I was telling a kindergarten class (4/5 year olds) that we’re hosting a book fair next week and they would need to ask their parents for money. One girl very excitedly told me she has “one money” in her piggy bank. Her classmate, vibrating with excitement, said, “I have TOO MUCH money! I have ten dollars!”
a little boy, maybe around 7, looked at our piano at the museum and asked me very politely, “why doesn’t it have all 88 keys?”
I googled it for him after the tour, because even I didn’t know how many keys a piano was meant to have, or why this one had fewer (earlier pianos were just Like That, seems to be the answer)
we love baby nerds in this house
a marathon route ran past my apartment this morning and from my window I heard a small child yell at the top of her lungs, utterly bewildered, “WHERE ARE THEY ALL GOING???”
we have two niblings, and they like to draw with me when they visit. they’re recently getting into Star Wars and wanted to draw some characters from that.
me: okay, who will we draw?
older nibling, as expected: luke! BB-8!
me: alright, cool-
younger nibling, loudly and with conviction: COUNT DOOKU!!!!!!
Last week this dude asked the kids to give an example of a four legged animal, and one of them (I think she was 3 or 4?) said “chicken”
The dude gently informed her that it only has two legs and said “can you give another one?”, so the little kid, in a completely serious tone went, “two chicken.”
Oh hey this post is back, who wants to hear the funniest thing a kid has said to me to date?
I was passing by the kindergarten wing of the school and a few four and five year olds were out in the hall and began talking to me. One such kid (who’s met me several times now) said “What’s your name?” When I told him I was Miss Lastname, he responded, “Hmmm…No, your name’s Jackson now.” I was so baffled all I could say was, “I guess my name’s Jackson now!”
My mum was so amused by it she called me Jackson twice the next day to tease me
i need to recreate this truck i saw with my eyes while driving on the highway today gimme a sec
it was like this
found a pic on reddit. 10/10 for accuracy
“Progress Shark” outside the Australian Museum, ahead of Sydney Mardi Gras/World Pride Festival 2023.
More flags should be inflatable sharks
Ok this is making me go insane because. that’s a photoshop. it absolutely is, someone’s edited a progress pride flag onto the shark.
you can see spots where the red is misaligned with the top of the body and even extends slightly beyond it. the lines of the flag don’t conform to the shape of the shark’s body at all. you can see the gills through it as if it’s at like 70% opacity.
but like. the progress pride shark is real and it looks like this:
yknow. cause it’s a flag wrapped around a model shark.
why was this edited????? it’s a real thing but for some reason someone edited a digital flag over it instead of just using a real photo of the real thing??? why????
Now this is what I mean (metaphorically) by "enrichment in my enclosure"
Yellow-throated marten (Martes flavigula)
“Before proceeding further, the Court notes that this case involves two extremely likable lawyers, who have together delivered some of the most amateurish pleadings ever to cross the hallowed causeway into Galveston, an effort which leads the Court to surmise but one plausible explanation. Both attorneys have obviously entered into a secret pact complete with hats, handshakes and cryptic words to draft their pleadings entirely in crayon on the back sides of gravy-stained paper place mats, in the hope that the Court would be so charmed by their child-like efforts that their utter dearth of legal authorities in their briefing would go unnoticed. Whatever actually occurred, the Court is now faced with the daunting task of deciphering their submissions. With Big Chief tablet readied, thick black pencil in hand, and a devil-may-care, laugh-in-the-face-of-death, life-on-the-razor’s-edge sense of exhilaration, the Court begins.”
— Bradshaw v. Unity Marine Corp., Inc., 147 F. Supp. 2d 668 (S.D. Tex. 2001)
Oh boy
I googled the full judgement (x) and it just… keeps going like that. The judge has no chill and also may be my new hero.
“Despite the continued shortcomings of Plaintiff’s supplemental submission, the Court commends Plaintiff for his vastly improved choice of crayon. Brick Red is much easier on the eyes than Goldenrod, and stands out much better amidst the mustard splotched about Plaintiff’s briefing. But at the end of the day, even if you put a calico dress on it and call it Florence, a pig is still a pig.”
Infomercial Woman moment
Congratulations little buddy that's the worst anyone's ever done it
I support women's wrongs
I know you're a snake blog, but I saw you mentioned sugar gliders as being unethical to keep - is that because of their social needs, or is there something else about keeping them in captivity that's unethical? (Just curious - I googled the question but the most immediately relevant result is from an ARA org that opposes keeping animals in captivity ever, for philosophical reasons.)
No worries, I can still help with this question!
The main issues with sugar gliders are that it's nearly impossible to meet their social and dietary needs in a private home. In the wild, they live in large social groups, so unless you plan on getting like fifteen of them, they're not going to get the social structure they need to be healthy and happy. They're nocturnal, so it's difficult for a human keeper to provide that companionship. Their diet is also complex, costly, and notoriously commercial diets marketed for them will often kill them if that's all they get. In the wild, they largely eat eucalyptus gum and nectar. That's difficult to provide.
There are other things - they need large, open enclosures that you just can't buy, they're very fragile and can easily get hurt, and they're messy - but the bottom line is they're just bad pets. They tend to suffer in captivity from isolation, poor diets, and inadequate housing, and that's even without considering how buying one often supports the illegal pet trade.
Definitely animals that belong in the wild and in accredited zoos.

We need a digital archive of LGBTQ+ works of art, science, and every other conceivable work we can share between each other because we are beyond the genocide warning level in most countries in the west and they’re already trying to purge us from libraries.
If other people are interested I’ll make this a priority
Speaking as someone with a background in archives, stuff like this does already exist. No need to reinvent the wheel. Creating an archive and making sure it’s accessible and searchable and actually preserves things for the long time (especially digital things) is actually a huge undertaking. Show some love to these already existing collections and maybe even consider contributing. There’s the Digital Transgender Archive off the top of my head. I know more I just have to think.
The History Project, based in Boston, is an LGBTQ+ community archive that’s existed for decades. Many of their collections are digitized.
The Lesbian Herstory Archives, based in Brooklyn, is similar.
The Digital Public Library of America covers a great many topics, but they also have LGBTQ+ stuff.
I’d also recommend searching “lgbtq+” and “libguide” in your preferred search engine. Many universities list helpful resources and databases, some of which are freely accessible.
Many public and academic libraries in the US and Canada (not sure where you’re writing from) subscribe to the Gale Archives of Sexuality and Gender. If you have a library card or are a student at a given library, you can access it for free.
In general, I’d really recommend searching around to see how you can support existing museums, community archives, college and university archives, etc that specialize in LGBTQ+ history and media local to you, whether that’s in your same town or regionally.
You are not alone! People are working on this and some of them have institutional budgets!
But also kind of looping back to the first post: you personally might have relevant records. Photos of Pride or protests you’ve been to, journals, a blog full of trans headcanons even. That’s all part of queer history and that’s the stuff these archives and museums are made of.
Label your stuff carefully, make backup copies, and get to know your local organizations!
We’re also working on building an open access archive and actively looking for content contributions! https://about.jstor.org/revealdigital/hiv-aids-the-arts/
University and community archives both are doing so much important work in curating and preserving queer history! And even the academic collections are generally still open to the public, whether that looks like you coming into the reading room at a local university to look at their materials or emailing the librarians to ask for photos or scans of them.
Also, like, even if they’re affiliated with institutions, queer archives at universities and museums are generally still curated and cared for by queer folks. I work in a queer history archive at my university, and all of us who regularly work with the collections are queer, the curator is even another trans person, and we have strong connections with other queer people and organizations in the surrounding community.
Academic and cultural institutions like historical societies, libraries, and universities have facilities built to preserve archival materials – everything from books and zines to pins, banners, t-shirts, and etc – and people trained in curation and conservation. And often we want to connect with the local community so we can house and preserve their stories and materials for a long time!
All the archives that have been added to this post are great, but here’s a few more to look at if you’re interested in finding a queer archive near you – or one further away with materials that interest you. Australia: The Australian Queer Archives
Bosnia & Herzegovina: Kvir Arhiv
Canada: The ArQuives (formerly the Canadian Lesbian & Gay Archives)
Germany: Das Lila Archiv
Spinnboden Archiv (focused on lesbian history)
Forum Queeres Archiv München (focused on queer history in Bavaria and Munich)
The Netherlands: LGBT Heritage Collection at the Internationaal Homo/Lesbisch Informatiecentrum en Archief
South Africa: GALA Queer Archive
Switzerland: Verein Schwulenarchiv Schweiz (focused on the history of gay men in Switzerland)
The United Kingdom: LGBTQ Collections at the Glasgow Women’s Library
The United States: The Human Sexuality Collection at Cornell University
OutLoud Collection at StoryCorps (an oral history project)
The Rainbow History Project (focusing on queer history in Washington D.C. and the surrounding area)
The Invisible History Project (focusing on queer history in Alabama and the American South)
The Gerber/Hart Library and Archive (focusing on Midwestern queer history and culture)
Also – I know what’s happening today is incredibly scary, but there are so many archives all over the world documenting our history, and so many people devoting their lives to preserving everything from groundbreaking political manifestos to kitschy ephemera. And supporting queer archives is more important than ever. My first day of work in the collections, the curator handed me a charred book that had been rescued from the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft book burnings, and nothing has ever driven home more that the work of archivists is both critical and powerful, especially in this day and age. Support queer archivists and queer archives, save materials and find one to house your own collections no matter how random they might seem, and go out and learn about our history!
To add to the list of Canadian sources there is also the Transgender Archives through the University of Victoria:
I also want to pitch my friend, Amelia’s website: Not Your Average Cistory. Amelia writes blog posts and has also compiled trans museum sources.
