One of my all time favorite lyrics from Falsettos is in Another Miracle of Judaism when Jason sings

“Can you please make my friend stop dying? I’m not naive It won’t be easy”

Because it can be interpreted in two ways. We can either interpret it as Jason maturing and recognizing that Whizzer is dying

Or

Or we can interpret it as Jason saying that he’s not naive so he knows it won’t be easy to save him, but he still believes Whizzer can be saved

Which only emphasizes how naive he still is, how naive everyone was at the start of the epidemic when they believed it was only a matter of time before the cdc found a cure

god I love this musical

"When Shelley's corpse washed ashore, a friend identified it by a copy of Keats's 1820 volume in the coat pocket, which he knew Shelley had taken with him. Then, after cremation in which Shelley's heart, hardened by calcium, did not burn, this same friend snatched it from the embers and presented it to Mary Shelley, who kept it thereafter in her desk, wrapped in a copy of 'Adonais."

Here’s your morbid literary fact of the day.

jesus christ, i will never be this goth.

Mary Shelley’s father taught her to spell her name by taking her to the graveyard and having her trace the letters on her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s gravestone.

NO ONE will ever be as goth.

didnt she also have sex on said grave

She lost her virginity on her mother’s grave yes

… that’s it we can all go home, peak goth was achieved before we even started.

Oh, and this isn’t especially goth, but my God, I respect her for this:

In 1827, Mary Shelley was party to a scheme that enabled her friend Isabel Robinson and Isabel’s lover, Mary Diana Dods, who wrote under the name David Lyndsay, to embark on a life together in France as man and wife.[126][note 13] With the help of  [American actor John Howard] Payne, whom she kept in the dark about the details, Mary Shelley obtained false passports for the couple.[127]

The more I learn about Mary Shelley the more I love her

i wish men understood that when women are talking about feminism and rape culture and shit, it’s not just a political conversation. it’s not about being a “social justice warrior” or whatever. it’s about our actual lives being shaped by misogyny since childhood, and the daily reality of living in fear of violence. this isn’t a fucking game or philosophical debate. this is our fucking lives.

this post is picking up like 100 notes per minute its outta control

my fave bit of black dog folklore is that in some folklore there is a belief that the first person buried in a cemetery stays there and doesn’t cross over and helps other spirits move on and protects them from evil spirits, now naturally people want to avoid this fate for their loved ones and themselves so they would sometimes bury a dog first and it would return in the shape of a big black dog and protect the newly dead from evil spirits and occasionally the living as well

this kind of spirit is called a church grim

I like to call my chickens “beasties” or “fat little monster trucks” and other such affectionate terms, but dad seems to take offence whenever I do and always gently refers to them as “the girls,” “the ladies” and sometimes “the dames” when he’s putting them away, like he’s a butler shepherding a group of well-bred country lasses into the parlour for tea

this post evokes such a pleasing mental image that my depression was completely cured for 5 and a half minutes

Guys who complain about the friendzone often don’t care about their female friends’ personal boundaries, forcing their female friends build more walls up. A good cartoon.

“For the love of God, Montresor!” -Cask of Amontifriendzone, Edgar Allan Poe

Incessantly, I heard a smacking, as of some entitled dipshit whacking, whacking on my chamber door.

Resignedly, I placed another layer, voicing a quiet, repeated prayer, “This dude thinks he’s a player, but I am not a point to score, he should fuck off and bother me no more.”

Quoth the friendzoned, “Fucking whore.”

You’ve heard about Mom Friend and Dad Friend, now get ready for....

Grandpa Friend™:

- almost always grumpy - bad at showing affection but cares about their friends a lot - “what did you say?”, “Sorry i didn’t hear that, can you repeat it?” - often reminisces about their youth (even though they’re probably only in their twenties. Alternatively: “kids these days…”) - too old for this shit (see above) - totally not down with the youth - bad back (and everything else hurts too) - likes to complain

This is the American Gothic. If you’ve never been to the USA, this image sums it up pretty well.

I had to find out where this really was because looking at it, I felt like I knew exactly where it was. It turns out it’s in Breezewood, PA, and i have never been there, which only serves to highlight the OP’s point.
