'i dont follow you but i check your blog like a newspaper' is me w/ wormblr. people keep mistakenly calling me their mutual bc i'm in their notes so often they dont realize i never followed them. which theres no point in correcting because im mutuals in spirit with many of you. not that 'mutuals' means literally anything

okay actually i need to ramble about taylor and her dad for like a bit cus its sooo much.

like okay listen listen listen: Danny wakes up early and he cooks breakfast maybe and then he goes to work and he does his job- and he's great at his job, in any world but this one, in any other brockton bay, he'd be able to afford to take taylor out of winslow or fix their broken step- maybe get her her like a dog or something (which btw would fix her) and y'know pay the bills and shit. but he can't in this universe because in this universe kaiju attack every 2 seconds and one specifically doesn't like people existing on coasts and like he's a dockworker or whatever so! so. so he works all day tirelessly just to not get his crew jobs or better pay because no one is going to sponsor the people working on a non-existent dock like its literally a graveyard! who would pay for this when there's an actual dragon man running around the city burning buildings down and an entire neo-nazi contingent of super-cunts nobody is going to do that. But this is his life. And he's stubborn and things had been better before so maybe they can be good again and he hates change and he doesn't want to have it all been for nothing and this is what he does. So he gives it his all. He stays late and he really only hangs out with his coworkers and he does have to pay the bills so its not like anyone could blame him. So he slams his head into the brick wall hoping it will break before his skull will and he misses so fucking much of what is going on in his daughters life! but it goes by so quickly, too quickly and by the time he's begun to figure out just how deeply and irrecoverably she's changed its way too late to just swing back in like nothing happened. He can't actually! They've both closed themselves off totally, her even farther than he has. but they're both stubborn, so stubborn and they think that if they can just hold on a little longer then things will be okay because things have to be okay because this can't be the rest of their lives! And Taylor really is her fathers daughter because she sees the way he bloodies his head on that wall and says fuck it all do you one better: this brick wall is going to break or i am! and if i do then i won't be around to care about it! And she's skipping class and spending nights somewhere else, sneaking out and of course he knows about it- of course he knows! What is he going to do though? confront her? and then what? what justification could he possibly have for that? to demand answers from her when she should be the one demanding them from him? he let her go back to the same school that nearly killed her! he let her drown without him when his wife died- didn't notice when emma broke her heart, didn't notice when she stopped loving english class or trusting adults or speaking without thinking 'stupid!' at herself reflexively. or worse- he did notice and chose not to do anything out of cowardice and habit and procrastinating guilt- like his daughters mental health was homework he hasn't handed in. But they both feel better, when they don't have to talk about it- and there's nothing morally wrong with skipping school or dropping out entirely but taylor used to like school but having an actual conversation with her about what exactly is happening in her life is something he takes half a zillion words to work up to and by the time he actually does he has to lock them in a goddamn room together- not because it's a good idea- if he knew more about taylor he'd know its a surefire way to freak her out- but because that's what he needs to talk to her.

and it just...deflates. she leaves and drops out of school and doesn't really talk to him again until brockton bay is like halfway underwater. there's no catharsis with him finding out she's Skitter, its not satisfying, not even in an angsty way- 'luke i am your father' -at least that's properly dramatic! It's just sort of an. oh. okay. fuck.

i dunno. this wasn't going anywhere. i just...man. they'd both kill for each other, i am confident in that much, but both seem to struggle pretty hard with the 'living for each other' part.

I kick open the door of my own blog.

Worm is an accidentally pro-family abolition text wherein all prominently featured family units demonstrate the inherent potential for abuse in the power structure of the 'family'.

  • Danny Hebert's attempt to confine Taylor to force her to recognize and capitulate to his authority as her father to help her is explicitly compared to the abuse her bullies inflicted on her by confining her to her locker
  • Brian and Aisha's father, a 'hard man' who conditioned his son to reify harmful patriachal assumptions and dynamics but whose patriarchal 'strength' protects neither of his children from harm
  • The child protection services that sought to 'correct' Rachel by placing her in progressively less and less suitable households as their patience with an abused child who refused to adopt 'appropriate' behaviours wore out
  • The materially affluent but emotional inadequate parenting Tattletale received
  • The emotionally toxic dynamics of the 'successful' two parent two child Dallon household
  • The parents of the Wards, who donate their children as enforcers of state violence
  • The Vasils

The hierarchal structures of the family must be dismantled to prevent the rise of future Khepris, which is why Ward should have been about Victoria joining a commune and hating all the filthy hippies she was surrounded by instead of her being a strikebreaking cop. Think about how fucking mad Carol Dallon would get about family abolition as a concept. Victoria Dredd Dallon I did not raise you that way. Get back here to reenact the psychodynamics of your childhood right now.

How did I forget to include Eidolon and his kids on this list.

every time someone genuinely defends the material impact of danny's actions or acts like he was just Being A Good Parent by locking taylor in a room as an attempt to force her to accept his intervention/judgement wrt her situation i start biting. violently. i love worm for not ever acting as if taylor did something wrong or stupid by needing to get the fuck away from home & school

like she does have the ultimate retreat 2 the family at the end where re-allowing danny influence over her is portrayed as a healthy return to normalcy and that sucks. but worm is so very kind about the fact that sometimes what a traumatized teenager actually needs is to be allowed to wander around and lean on peer support and do whatever it takes to survive until they can actually imagine living again. the vast portions of the book that are just taylor & other kids who were traumatized by the schooling system & the institution of the family furiously struggling to exist outside of those systems together are really really good actually. rachel Is allowed to bite and maim about it and this is not questioned! alec is never portrayed as needing a replacement parental figure, he's most healed by having friends He chooses and re-engaging with social interaction at his own pace!! brian fails most as a brother when he tries to emulate traditional familial dynamics! the people who let lisa stay w/ them while she was homeless did more for her than her parents did! Sometimes Worm Is Good Man. book that thoroughly validates the experience of being a traumatized teenager more than most things i have read ever.

Undersiders fursonas! Ideas all stolen from this on lakesbians post. 10/10 post the only criticism i have as a Creature drawer myself is that I don't think taylors fursona (or bugsona?) would be a cockroach. Not that taylor isn't a cockroach she is of course- she is The cockroach- but i think she'd choose a bug thats a little cooler like a dragonfly.

Lisa is a rat. I don't know why i feel so strongly about this but i won't be taking any questions abt this!!

I’ve been working on a Daemon au for Worm for the last few days, and I’d thought I’d post some of the pics here! I’m putting the specifics of the au under the cut because some people might not care about my rambling on animal facts haha

I’ll probably post more if people like these- characters that I’m interested in doing include: Alexandria, Jack-Slash, Bonesaw/Riley, Armsmaster/Defiant, Victoria, Amy, Vista, Sophia, Emma, and Piggot.

i'm seeing a lot of undersiders furry discussions on my dash and this feels very topical!

i still want to make an undersiders dynamic chart so bad but im so fucking autistic and thorough it would have to be a 70-slide powerpoint instead where i individually explain not only every single character dynamic but the unconscious vs. conscious aspects of it and how it changes over the course of the book. maybe even 100 slides so i can have an extended primer on how each undersider consciously parses and acts regarding their relationships & how that interacts w/ their unconscious underpinning motivations. 110 slides if i accidentally start going on a tangent about alec halfway through

i think when brian was like 16 he started politely and formally and incessantly emailing aisha's teachers/counselor/whatever about School Problems she was having and the office had a really weird 10 minutes ascertaining 1. that this is her brother and not her parent and 2. how to politely explain to said brother that he is not actually allowed input on literally any of this. like he was like You may not have seen my last email, so I am re-transmitting it. I would like to request more details on the incident that occurred in Algebra 1A last Thursday afternoon. Thank you, Brian Laborn. and so on. and its the fifth email hes sent regarding The Incident in 62 hours.

skitter. Kill her. i don't care what funny things that robot said taylor skitter hebert will always be more iconic

You see, I get what you're getting at in the tags, and I'll say: she's not a better villain than Glados.

First of all: she's 15. Who among us hasn't shoved a bug into someone at 15, that's basically normal people stuff.

Second of all; she has no style, she's just brutal and efficient. Imagine being a young hero trying to free your city of her deadly influence only to step within 3 blocks of her current place of residence and be made into a traumatized crying mess within seconds. No banter, no taunting, hell she wasn't even there. She acts like the no-nonsense right hand person instead of the main big bad. Sure, you then zoom into her head and you get the most hilariously deranged monologue about filling the next poor soul who crosses her with capsaicin brown recluses or shit like that, but it's just not the same as the villain you killed being revived right before your eyes and being so petty and show-offish that instead of killing you where you stand she just sends you to do more tests until you're put on another conveyor belt heading towards a fire.

That said, I still voted for Skitter. Yes, it's because it's funny if she wins and all the Portal fans are forced to tackle with the idea of this nobody dethroning such an iconic villain.

She has no style?? This girl uses a wall of writhing bugs as a CAPE. She is constantly thinking of ways to be more threatening and dramatic because half of the work of being a villain is the posturing! She has menacing speeches! She uses bugs to make her hair flow in the wind! She has millions of insects click together all at once in different ways so she can scare the shit out of people by telling them she's' going to have flies crawl into their tear ducts without even being within yelling distance! Her entire outfit is made out of black widow silk! How do you even get more stylish!

Taylor thinks she's lame and has no style, but Taylor also thinks she's 'not a fighter' soo

imagine my whiplash upon seeing this blazed post and then skimming the rest and seeing this person’s talking about some media named worm and not in fact people writing fanfiction about worms
