god it’s been 20 years but i can’t stop thinking abt the great tragedy of donnie darko coming out when it did. imagine writing a script in 1997 and working for four whole years on getting this movie made and after all that hard work you’re finally about to release your first feature film. a film which prominently features a freak airplane crash wreaking havoc on a peaceful american suburbia. and a month before it comes out. fucking 9/11. jesus christ. it’s not funny but dear lord it makes me laugh.

Donnie Darko is a metaphorical film about how we're stuck in time loops, forced to relive the same reactionary politics as America descends towards fascism, and we're unable to change it because acting out against the status quo only gets our loved ones and ourselves killed.

We know this because of the time period the movie is set in, as well as the fact that it's an election year, this sets up the larger political themes. But even if you missed that, the film plays homage to 80's slashers and horror films with conservative themes, specifically Halloween.

The film also shows us that reactionaries easily fall for pseudoscience scams promoted by pedophile cult leaders, simply because they're christian. And then when those men are exposed as pedophiles, will mount campaigns to defend their innocence. Literally a precursor to modern Cancel Culture.

It shows us a character who's morally grey, who destroys property, smokes, commits arson, disrespects authority, has premarital sex, and commits murder, but also is loving and kind towards his family and girlfriend. He's kind hearted, but mentally ill. Even his choice at the end is morally grey, by choosing to die, he gives Gretchen and Frank another chance at life, literally resurrecting them when he fixes the timeline, but also covers up for a man's pedophilia because he undoes the fire that exposes him. There's no good solution. There's no way to "win", beat the bad guy, get the girl.

So yeah, it's a red flag movie, but only if you're committed to a surface level reading of it, who thinks that your shitty artsy boyfriend was shitty because of a movie he liked, and not that patriarchy and capitalism reward selfishness and abuse, independent of what media a person consumes.

Aziraphale better start practicing that apology dance, he’s gonna be doing it for a while.

Don’t worry, Crowley definitely forgives him, he just needs to feel his feelings for a little bit❤️‍🩹

how it must hurt, to walk back into serving a system that hurt you, to take a massive risk, in order to help the love of your life and make him happy again- and have him not understand. and have him throw it back into your face.

and how it must hurt, to watch the love of your life rejoin the forces that hurt you, changed you, beat you down and left you out to dry, when you were so young, and act like you should thank him for becoming one of them

GOOD OMENS S2 SPOILERS

Crowley got rejected three times by Aziraphale when he tried to make a move

Is it too soon to talk about the fact that Nina and Maggie are a metaphor for Crowley and Aziraphale, but NOT in the way they led us to believe throughout S2?

Nina is the tough one, the one that doesn't trust anybody and she's just like Crowley. Maggie is the sweet and kind lady that is just like Aziraphale.

But Nina is stuck in a toxic relationship where the partner exists only in the form of omnipresent cruel texts, gaslight and accusations. She knows that the one she loves doesn't love her back as much, but she justifies every cruelty because she's the "complicated one" and they need only a little bit more time to fix things. She's doing nothing wrong, some things were completely out of her control, and yet she was the one to blame. She's hurt, a victim and yet she doesn't leave her distant cruel partner for Maggie, that is clearly and painfully in love with her. In the end, when she's dumped via text, she understands that she'll need to redefine herself as a person before going back to Maggie (hoping to find her still waiting, because she took so long).

Maggie struggles to pay rent, is extremely lonely and constantly hiding in her empty record shop because she's at her lowest point. She's fallen in love with Nina a long time ago but always watched her from afar. Nina couldn't be interested in such a wreck, she already has a partner and at a certain point she even stated she'll rather stay in her current toxic relationship instead of starting a new one with her! But Maggie also changed during S2, understanding her self-worth and letting herself be free of her fears and insecurities. She'll also wait as long as necessary for Nina to figure out what she needs.

The Nina/Maggie duo is not a metaphor of Crowley/Aziraphale in S2.

The moment you start thinking of Nina as Aziraphale and Maggie as Crowley you realise they're foreshadowing of S3.

not to be too delulu in these trying times but I really like how Crowley is perfectly positioned to be humanity/earth's sole Guardian Something for the upcoming second coming/armageddon attempt. Crowley who we saw repeatedly protecting, herding, and caring for humans all season in both the past & present. Crowley, the gardener, who spoke our galaxy into existence, who won't even kill goats, who knows that ducks like peas and they're good for them too.

If Amazon doesn't give us season 3 I'm 100% convinced that Neil, Michael and David will just do it staged-inspired in their fucking backyards

Hey guys, I know everyone is all crying and all over the place but can we take a moment to appreciate this frame- or just this outfit in general-

Gabriel - I mean, Jim, looks so fucking hilarious and he's himbo charts this episode was off the roof, seriously.
