Did you guys know that the most recent version of sharks have fins that are kinda leg like and they like to walk up onto land?

no way i must have missed an update!

The Epaulette shark is only about 9 million years old as a species, making it the most recent branch in the shark family. And it is slowly but surely evolving into a land animal

Get on up here you weird bitch!

the gimmick blogs are like tumblr’s rogue gallery. yes we’ve got some heroes, yes we’ve got some villains, but more importantly if you look over here you will see some freak who devotes all their time to counting the number of “t’s” in a post

T Count: 15

Letter Count: 198

Your T Percentage: 7.58%

Average T Percentage: 6.95%

You used the letter T 1.09 times as much as average!

YOU EXIST???

In his defence I also saw that necklace and fell in love immediately

I just read a post about how scientists fucked up the mating pool for Red Breasted Blackbirds, whose males use their red plumage as a mating signal, by coloring a particularly dull-colored male's chest plumage with a permanent marker. The increased redness of his plumage made him the most prolific male in the area. Something like 20% of the eggs in the area contained his DNA and 100% of his permanent mates were his despite the birds' tendency to mate outside of their long-term mating pairs.

It would appear, and I'm no scientist, that you can give a person a snake spinal column necklace and they'll lasso every country boy in the hardware store.

wow i wonder if that 300 year gap could be explained by any outside factors…….whoa! for some reason it lines up with the timeline of britain’s invasion and subsequent colonization of ireland! wild, huh? i wonder if the two are connected in some way? i guess the world will never know….

“why do the Irish hate the English so much? It couldn’t have been *that* bad!!”

This was in place till 1973.

Seeing non irish people reblogging this makes me happy

The stereotype of “the Irish are drunks” is English propaganda used to justify paternalism and controlling the Irish. It’s bullshit.

It says a lot about the British that their most celebrated prime minister, Winston Churchill, practiced eugenics and believed us Irish were closer to Neanderthals than human beings

In case you wondered why the Irish celebrated after the Queen died. 👆

We’re so lucky they filmed Lord of the Rings when they did. Twenty years later, they would’ve had Viggo Mortensen riding a green bike that they CGI into a horse because that’s better for some reason.

This simple feeling… is beyond Disney’s comprehension.

I fully believe Viggo Mortensen would’ve brought his own damn horse before riding on a green abomination

I said it once and I’ll say it again;

Unions.

It’s because on set animal handlers have unions.

CG effects houses are run like sweatshops.

That’s why.

it's my dad's birthday, and every year my mom makes him a traditional English breakfast (and we are from israel so its probably not very accurate but bare with me) but we forgot to buy beans...

Do you have any suggestion for something to replace the beans?

Avatar

In a traditional English Breakfast when there are no beans, the waitress looks at you unsympathetically and says "Beans are off, love." I suggest your mother practice saying that in her best English accent.

"_____s are off, love." is going to become a stock phrase in my repertoire from this point on.

Why they're smearing Lina Khan

My god, they sure hate Lina Khan. This once-in-a-generation, groundbreaking, brilliant legal scholar and fighter for the public interest, the slayer of Reaganomics, has attracted more vitriol, mockery, and dismissal than any of her predecessors in living memory.

She sure must be doing something right, huh?

A quick refresher. In 2017, Khan — then a law student — published Amazon’s Antitrust Paradox in the Yale Law Journal. It was a brilliant, blistering analysis showing how the Reagan-era theory of antitrust (which celebrates monopolies as “efficient”) had failed on its own terms, using Amazon as Exhibit A of the ways in which post-Reagan antitrust had left Americans vulnerable to corporate abuse:

The paper sent seismic shocks through both legal and economic circles, and goosed the neo-Brandeisian movement (sneeringly dismissed as “hipster antitrust”). This movement is a rebuke to Reaganomics, with its celebration of monopolies, trickle-down, offshoring, corporate dark money, revolving-door regulatory capture, and companies that are simultaneously too big to fail and too big to jail.

“These talking points got picked up by people commenting on Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley’s ruling against the FTC in the Microsoft-Activision merger. The FTC was seeking an injunction against the merger, and Corley turned them down flat. The ruling was objectively very bad. Start with the fact that Corley’s son is a Microsoft employee who stands reap massive gains in his stock options if the merger goes through.“

“This is surreal: a judge ruled that a corporation’s radical, massive merger shouldn’t be subject to full investigation because that corporation itself set an arbitrary deadline to conclude the deal before such an investigation could be concluded.“

Two points that stood out to me about the microsoft/activisiion judgement recently.

I just don’t think Meghan has a leg here. She is a princess, no one wants to hear from her on strikes.

Meghan was a working actress for decades. She was a working royal for 18 months. She benefits massively from her show reaching syndication. She stands to lose depending on how Netflix negotiated residuals for Suits with it being out of cable reruns now.

Meghan knows what it’s like to scrimp and scrap for years. She was a working actress doing bit parts her whole 20s!

The fact is that honestly if she didn’t marry Harry, Suits might have been her biggest hit and again residuals would have a huge impact on her. She completely has a leg to stand on joining this fight. Just like she had one speaking up for BLM.

In fact, A-Listers NEED to be using their spotlight to highlight the strike and the working actors who make up the bulk of Hollywood who don’t make millions per movie. It’s important that people like Meryl Streep or Jennifer Lawrence or Matt Damon or Margot Robbie join the strike. A-list talent walking off set and refusing to take part in press and promo is part of what gives the Union huge bargaining power even if those elite actors are not necessarily hurting financially. But also, a lot of A-Listers also have huge stakes in the fight because it’s also about control of their image and their long term financial profit, too.

Meghan is a producer now with a new production company. If she wants top talent on her productions she needs to be ten toes down in solidarity, too.

Meghan was/is SAG. The Union protected her as a working actress, she can use the outrageous spotlight on her to stand in solidarity and to support working actors.

A lot of people don't seem to know that a bunch of older stars end up in poverty. Fame is fleeting. The glamorous role often doesn't pay as well as you think.

Tales of Angela Landsbury insisting ageing stars get roles on Murder She Wrote so they could retain their medical insurance.

Every worker needs unions. Bit-part workers need A-lister solidarity. Being an A-lister doesn't last forever.

looked up the x files spin-off bc i was curious why i’d never heard of it and why it’s apparently not available to watch anywhere (especially given how huge x files is) and. this is crazy

no wonder they wiped this show off the face of the earth

I remember hearing about this a while ago, but I forgot just how fucking exact the premise was.
