30 years ago this weekend, Chicago Comic Con featured appearances by all seven founders of Image Comics. At this point during the summer of 1992, Youngblood and Spawn had already been launched with record-breaking sales results and anticipation was high for the new Image titles that would come out during the balance of the year.
“Ghost Times” issue No. 14
1997, Green, Agatha, and her Pokémon by Mato, cover for the American version of the Yellow arc of Pokémon Adventures (Yellow Caballero vol. 4). While the outline is Mato’s (from chapters 50 and 51), I believe it was colored by the American editors.
“Ghost Times” Grand Finale!
Pokémon Tale 33 “The Little Ghost” splendidly illustrated by Aya Kusube (1998) Enjoooooy!
You asked for it… we teamed up with Fleckaben to restore this iconic 1997 piece by Ken Sugimori from the original Game Freak website titled 雪祭り (Snow Festival) featuring Red, Seel and Articuno making snow sculptures … (original file name CA01_02.jpg, Mind these have been heavily reworked, hence the full-res original might look somewhat different if released! ) Enjoooy!
Another team @louminosus /@FLECKABEN enhancement! 2002 New Year card by Ken Sugimori, featuring Pokémon RSE protagonist Brendan and Keckleon on a bike! ( Mind these have been heavily reworked, hence the full-res original might look somewhat different if released! )
Ken Sugimori, 1997 art for the Pokémon Carddass no. 000 featuring Red, Green, Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur Scanned by @linkdu83 enhanced by your very @FLECKABEN and @louminosus
Ken Sugimori starter trio! Featured on the cover of the 1997 Pokémon RGB 大百科 (Encyclopedia). A digitally colored version was apparently used as the front page of the original Game Freak site (don’t know when, I found it archived on some old fansite, those are pure gold).
And you can download a zip with an uncompressed larger version and the sources for the digital one (7.31 Mb), mind it might not be the original file used on GF’s site.
Welcome back, Pokémon Snap! Let’s celebrate with this art by Benimaru Itoh featuring Todd Snap (トオル) and his vehicles from the original 1999 Pokémon Snap
Team Rocket's "Three Beasts" Carr, Sird and Orm in a 2006 artwork by Satoshi Yamamoto for the back cover of Pokémon Adventures 23.
Mini gen 1 set by Ken Sugimori from the 1997 CD “Game Boy Pokemon Sound Complete Set”, some of them also apperaed in the 1998 “Pokémon Journal” flyer and as assets in the original GF site. Scanned and enhanced by us.
1999, by Kagemaru Himeno, Koga and Giovanni battling using "Toxic Cloud" and "Call the Boss" from their Gym Challenge (ジム拡張第2弾 闇からの挑戦) cards Koga's Weezing and Giovanni's Persian, from the 1999 June issue of CoroCoro Comic. Unfortunately, these pics are always so tiny there's no use in up-res-ing them up all the way :/ really funny anyways
Crazy 1998 vignettes by Tamotsu Watanabe from the January issue of CoroCoro Comic showing the "Batomen Cyclone" attacks, which is, as I understood it, an electronic toy that can read circular barcode data to play Pokémon battles with little discs.
“The reason i went to watch Chiba Damashi and spending a wad of yen on gas and tolls was for 1 main reason, this car below.
First off let me say that this is my personal opinion but this is the best 180sx i have ever seen. Not to take away from any of the other 180s that i have posted on my blog but personal preference, this car tops them all. It is the definition of `simple is best`. It`s subtle but has that aura about it that just made people stop whatever they were doing and stare as it rolled into the paddock. Asano-san who built this car in his spare time at his sheet metal job was inspired by another legendary 180sx, the Koguchi black hatch. Like Koguchi`s car the exterior, front, sides and rear are all oem kouki pieces. Nissan got it correct straight from the factory so why change a thing right? The only aftermarket body panel is the hood which is of course made by Koguchi Power. Some might be wondering why the hood looks like it doesn`t fit but it is done on purpose to help cooling when throwing the car sideways… but for me and probably Asano-san as well it just looks dope. Suspension is from the shakotan drift specialists at 326 (pronounced Mitsuru) Power. Asano-san runs stiff 16kg front and 12kg rear springs, all arms have been changed to 326 units. Wheels are ultra baller Nismo LM GT4s in 17x9 all around built by Rays Engineering. Engine-wise the car has the general upgraded piping and cooling to allow it to run strong all day. Interior is kept simple, painted black, stripped, with 6 point cage, Bride seat, nardi wheel and Defi boost gauge, again SIMPLE. ”
The simplicity, and inspiration behind this hatch is just too good…. CHILDREN TAKE NOTES!
