Depression

While I was listening to a podcast earlier today I heard what I feel like is the most accurate description of what depression feels like.

“The struggle associated with living with depression would make you take up the offer of having your hands chopped off,without hesitation, in exchange for having your brain function normally for the rest of your life.”

If that description does not make you realize the struggle of living with depression and mental illness, I honestly do not know a better way to make you understand how difficult it is to live with.

Shifting Focus

Yeah it’s been a while since I have updated this blog but I haven’t really had much to say to the world lately. And if you were expecting something like that, that is not what this is. This is my way of reminding myself of the thought process I am currently in. A letter to myself if you will…

It has been a little over a year since I moved to the US to become a full time college student. The last year has been interesting to say he least. There have definitely been some ups and downs, personal triumphs and disappointments.

My second year so far has not been what I thought it would be, but in a good way. I feel more focused than I was last year and I have also had some interesting experiences.

The person I was in high school would probably be classified as ‘a social recluse/nerdy weirdo’. And I would like to think I have changed that image a bit since I left for a more balanced personality.

In the past month/months however I have had a few let’s call them college experiences. It’s not that I have been out going crazy every weekend and neglecting most of my work. I just have been a bit more social then I used to be.

It surprises me how much I have actually done. Most of the social goals I set out to accomplish during my time here I have managed to try at least once. I have gotten drunk, tried weed and actually managed to experience my first sexual experience. However I still haven’t gotten rid of the ‘single’ title.

So far I haven’t met someone who could be my first relationship, which is probably one of the things I wanted the most from my first year here. And that is probably the reason why. For a long time I was chasing the wrong people and that is why I am now shifting my focus.

While I have accomplished the personal goals, I haven’t done much when it comes to my professional ones. Things are improving but I think it is now time to focus on them. And this is my way of reminding myself to do just that. This is my way of committing to focus on what I came here for. To get my degree. I can’t keep trying to find ‘my person’. That will happen eventually and I am now putting that goal on hold until and I achieve what I know I can professionally.

So here’s to changing things up for the better. Goodbye social life and hello textbooks and diagrams.

Time For A Change

Well I have decided to change things up here for the two people who actually follow me and for myself. I think this blog is going to become more of a place for me to put the thoughts thats never make it out of my head (mostly just rants tbh). I have deleted most of my old reblogs but have left some of my first text posts just as way to see how things have changed in the 8 months since they were first posted. So no more reblogging sprees for me and I hope those of you who do see this enjoy my mindless ramblings.

1)      Favorite Book?

Hmm… I don’t really have a favorite book; I enjoy a lot of books from different genres. As a Harry Potter fanatic I think my answer is obligated to be one of them. So I am going to say ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ because it is the last book and is just written so well. If it wasn’t for Harry Potter I would say ‘Looking for Alaska’ by John Green. It has to be my favorite John Green book by far and I guess that would be my favorite.

My Mission Impossible Moment.

In my university's chemistry class we use the things called I-clickers (see picture below). We use them mainly to answer a few questions during class and get points for answering correctly. Yay for extra credit that not actually extra credit but just a way to get us to come to class. (Phew that was a mouthful)

Well today our professor gave us a question and a minute to answer it. Now I had my cell phone, calculator and I-clicker on my lap, and if you have seen the seats in the lecture hall there isn’t much room to put anything anywhere. So while I am hurrying, trying to work out the answer, I hear something fall. Thinking it was my phone, I hoped my OtterBOX case was worth the money and that my phone was still intact.

With 30 seconds left I made to grab my I-clicker. Turns out it wasn’t my phone that fell. SIGH. Remember how I said that there wasn’t much room in those seats. Yea, cue frantic movements to find it. With the help of a few friends we managed to locate the elusive device. We tried to get the girl behind us to help us reach. No go. And then the stupid professor decides to announce ‘ten seconds’ in the calmest manner possible, infuriating me and many other around me. THANKS PROF.

So I impulsively decide to stuff my hand between the seats and grab the clicker and I manage to hit the right button just as said professor calls out times up. WHEW! I looked down on my screen and saw a little check mark that said my answer had been accepted. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.  

So yeah that was my mission impossible moment of the day. Shout out to the people in CHEM 103 who assisted in the successful mission. Couldn’t have done it without y’all.

Hello World

So after months of careful consideration and debate, I have finally decised to create my own tumblr. While I have been visiting this site for a couple of years now, I have never created my own blog. So here goes nothing! Hope you out there enjoy it.
