I think you hit the nail on the head here in a lot of ways.
Record labels don't want artists getting any ideas and doing what Taylor is doing because then the masters they hold onto become less valuable when the artist owned work comes out.
Music journalism, in a way, relies on the labels/management. To bring them artists to interview. To help hype up new music. To generate clicks and advertising. To keep their publications afloat (in a time when real journalism is dying). They've depended on the record labels for so long that they are tied to the whole machine of things.
The industry overall is changing, and the corporate owned labels and media know that they stand to lose a lot if artists start making demands, owning their own stuff, etc.
Anyway, critics complaining about Taylor re-releasing her music are showing their behinds. Trying to prop up a really screwy industry and keep in the good graces of corporate labels.

those were the parts that really got me too, because it’s not a review of the album, it’s a review of the woman. which is what happens with taylor, but it also stings! I found the 1989 and rep bit, about how they feel too recent and too dramatic to relive, to also be very unfair, because it’s reducing the actual art to…..public criticism? this is a woman’s life! not a media cycle!

i think that depends on TS11, she really promoted RED bc she wanted that oscar nom and SOTY at the grammys. I think the next re-records will be like SN and Fearless, she will just post on social media and not actually do any promo in person. We might get another one at the end of the year but she might also release TS11.
