went down to the local holiday lights display the other night...

getting mooned

the glowing forest and the one with the snail...

this is the whole shot here - the "L" burned out so everyone was taking pictures with the big Ow.

the mushroom was one of a series. the TREE HUGS was so high up that no one could see it so they had someone standing there saying "it's up there"

and lastly, a walk through the evening with a friend....

Magnificent stuff.

My Christmas tree 2023. The ornaments were made by a friend over the course of many years. They are a mixture of white tissues, water, and plaster of Paris pressed into ceramic cookie molds and dried. I have an entire tree's worth of them!

Prepping stuffed squid to serve Christmas Eve or Day. I could not find cleaned, frozen squids, so I ended up buying a box of uncleaned squids and doing the cleaning myself! They are stuffed with a mixture of the tentacles, shrimp, breadcrumbs, cheese, spices, and eggs. Once you grind it all up together, no one knows the tentacles are mixed in! Will serve it over pasta with the tomato sauce they are braised in. DELICIOUS! I use a pastry or piping bag to fill them - so easy! Freezing the rest of the filling for seafood ravioli and stuffed salmon!

There's just not enough green velvet these days during the holidays. Fun fact, Santa originally had a host of suit colors: green, tan, red, and white. But through the persistent marketing of the Coca-Cola company, his "official" color became red in the 1880s. Probably the most impactful marketing ploy of all time.

This dress, dating from about 1900, is a perfect example of why I find silk velvet so amazing. Because of all of the tiny, tiny fibers, it both absorbs light and then reflects it depending on the cut of the fibers and the lighting. Here, there doesn't seem to be a lot of sheen, but it absolutely soaks up the light! Paired with all those gorgeous sequins, and wow.

Sequins have also been around for a LOT longer than most people think, since it's just a shiny, flat bead. This particular design is just stunning, and so very Edwardian. Plus, it's GREEN, and y'all already know how I feel about green dresses.

Exquisite winter ballgown from the 1900′s Just magnificent! Also remember - Christmas was not a ‘workman’s’ holiday until into the 1920′s, and many people in the end of the 19th century got married on Christmas day. This could well be a wedding dress.
