PARAPINES: The Joyous Amalgam of Gravity Falls and ParaNorman!

transcript of image text// @six-of-cringe: might be at the wrong place to ask, but I guess what I don't really get is how sex work can be fully without harm to the sex worker. if your livelihood is dependent on you doing sexual acts with people, how can consent be freely given?// End transcript //

In many cases consent is actually easier in full service sex work than in say manual labour work. My husband being a sex worker could withdraw consent for any reason more easily than a worker can withdraw consent to work because a worksite is dangerous. Remember that sex workers sell goods and services, not consent, you can withdraw consent to provide services to a customer.

The implied financial penalties are actually worse for the labourer. The sex worker only loses a booking from a client they don't want repeat business from anyway, the labourer could be fired and be destitute. Also the sex worker takes payment upfront, so if the client broke the rules..... You keep the money anyway.

The problem for sex workers is that sex work is almost always regulated by criminal codes. The law is what erodes the consent of sex workers and puts sex workers at risk of abuse and manipulation.

In my city I know a trans sex worker who was frog marched by police naked out of a hotel room, and had over a thousand dollars seized as proceeds of crime. Despite sex work being "legal" here, they decided that because she was working in a hotel this was a brothel. She never did get her money back.

In some places sex work isn't illegal, but it's illegal to rent to a sex worker (looking at you northern Ireland) so at any time you could become homeless without notice.

Often sex work is legal, but it's a crime to "live on the proceeds of sex work". Meaning you can buy a television but buying a loaf of bread is a crime.

Pimping laws are often vague enough to convict brothel secretaries, or your friend because you always text them when you are starting and finishing a booking for safety.

The list goes on, when sex work is criminalised (legalisation still puts sex work under criminal codes, this is why decrim is important) it makes it dangerous for sex workers to seek recourse for abuse, assault, theft, etc.... Because to do so may put them at risk of more violence physically, socially, financially, and by state legal apparatus.

If you care about sex workers consent, become a decrim advocate.

To cheer myself up from uh everything, I made this

I had some ideas, but I'm not confident in my ability to accurately assign characters to each box. So I used words.

I couldn't figure out the middle, though. Go crazy.

Maybe your lawful evil should be lawful neutral? I think lawful evil would have something about marriage for tax benefits ...

Chaotic neutral might involve hiding a ring somewhere that's a choking hazard, like in a cake.

True neutral could maybe be about waiting to be propsed to?

Congratulations to The Register for what might be my favorite coverage of the indictment.

Wait, the closing paragraphs are pretty strong, too.

Can we also talk about how abhorrently gauche it was that this man-shaped thing was keeping them *in a bathroom*? That’s just so ... tacky, gods damn it! Of all the rooms they could’ve been in, he chose a freakin’ bathroom? Not an office, or a sitting room, or a salon, not even a bedroom. They were in a bathroom.

He should be shanked in prison for *that* alone.

it can be scary to be visibly trans right now even in a relatively safe place but sometimes you have to ask yourself: If I don't transsexualize this Walmart, who will?

Tim Curry is DEAD people we gotta step up

I panicked and checked. As of June 13th, 2023 Tim Curry is not dead.

If this post ages poorly, I will personally hunt you down and make you apologize.

WHAT. What! I genuinely thought he was dead! Oh I’m so happy!

He's alligned with the rebellious, with the reclaimers of that which was stolen by the powerful, with those who seek to tear down the tyranny of the self-righteous. In short, with what society calls devilish.

Plus, he likes when his footsteps go clippity-clop.
