passed out very quickly when i got back to the hotel room after downing a bottle and a half of sake, but my parents didn't and put a law and order episode on to pass the time. and while i was drifting off i heard the background music of some scene and had a thought so important i dug my heels in and woke up enough to speak. and i started fucking asked if "they've been using the same music for the past like, fifty years-- no it's not that long, like twenty, do you think they've been doing that or did they have to, like, commission someone for a new ones, once they started writing new kinds of scenes" and then immediately fell asleep. like. i was Me, Chief Idiot enough to recognise that a long-running show would have to evolve with the times and that that would heavily influence its structure -- like, say, the shift in focus from mystery-focused contained episodes to more character-focused interpersonal drama (now that audiences have had time to get attached) -- and if that would lead to change in the score. but i was also drunk enough to say absolutely none of this and instead go with Wow i wonder if they made new scenes
