fandom as a whole is migrating away from a mutual appreciation of a story and towards an endless cycle of nitpicking and discourse and frankly that’s just Exhausting
Its just an endless stream of “you’re doing it wrong”. You’re reading this wrong, you’re appreciating this character wrong, you’re appreciating this character too much, you’re not appreciating this character enough, its not enough that I don’t like this pairing but it’s wrong to like it, you’re enjoying this wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
And honestly it’s just tiring.
does anyone else hate when they fucking do this
i know everyone saying this is abt strawberry shortcake and yes this was what was first in my mind but like i generally despise the idea that Every Goddamn Cutesy Show needs girl character designs with Humongous Eyes and pointy lil noses and slimmed down faces and straightened overly simplified hair and garish color designs because they basically wanna be Lauren Faust without the actual color and graphic design strengths of the skills it takes to make interesting art directions, mlp:fim worked because it really was conceived first with expressive gestures and expressions in an hyper stylized fantasy land with a certain glam to it, but you cant just force stylization like that without substance or not even thinking of the original emotions that past media is supposed to convey, without even making really bold moves at all, also giving little girls fashion like such a bad bland rep the majority of the time like, why are you making em wear discount basic ass outfits i hate you youre not even giving em aspirational aesthetics .
You would think that the biggest risk of trying out something new is that you won't like it, but it's when it's so good it raises your standards where the real problems start

Homophobes: *try to destroy rainbow statue*
Gays: “fine then we’ll make it an actual damn rainbow”

From what I understand from the article, it’s even rougher than normal content moderation: a lot of these workers were hired to train AIs like ChatGPT away from, well, all the worst that the web could provide, to detoxify it for the end users. They are specifically given the worst stuff that can be dredged up from the depths of the internet, and asked to label it - so that the AI can use that data to identify hatespeech, suicide ideation, racism, CSA, etc etc.
It’s an awful job, and some are paid less than $2 an hour. Workers have PTSD. Are they being offered counselling, support, compensation? Fuck no, they get punished for speaking up.
Good luck to the African Content Moderators Union, I hope they get the protections and compensation that their workers need.
writers who are like "we have to subvert all expectations or else the story is too predictable and not marketable or whatever" are extra silly to me because like. have you SEEN how excited fandoms get when a popular fan theory is confirmed canon?
i'm currently thinking about the adventure zone fandom with the "taako has a twin" theory. i wasn't super active in the fandom at the time (iirc i started listening around suffering game or maybe 11th hour and had just recently caught up) but i remember when it was just a popular fan theory alongside "angus is a dragon" type theories. and just how excited everyone got when not only was the theory confirmed, but she got officially introduced and was an amazing character from the get-go
this has happened with other fandoms i've been in, too. like steven universe with the "garnet is a fusion" and "rose quartz is pink diamond" theories, or the owl house with the "emperor belos is phillip wittebane" and "hunter is a grimwalker" theories
fans love when their hard work analyzing stuff pays off
Spoiler alert: adulthood is 96% of you going “well, I hope this is how it works and I’ll keep doing it till someone yells at me”
I like these posts because you read them as a teenager and you think, ‘surely these people are blowing it out of proportion’
AND THEN YOU REACH ADULTHOOD
idk who needs to hear this rn but suffering is not noble. take the tylenol
One time when I was younger I was refusing to take headache medicine and my mom said “the person who invented that medicine is probably so sad you won’t let them help you” and now every time I find myself denying medicine I just imagine the saddest scientist making those big wet eyes like “why won’t you let me help” and whoop then I take the medicine
scientist when you don't take the medicine they developed to help your pain
As long as you are taking a SAFE dose of it, then it's *good* for you. Pain is bad for the body. The inflammation from prolonged pain can worsen chronic issues and make it harder to heal.
Ibuprofen is best for pain that has inflammation, while acetaminophen doesn't help with inflammation but is more broadly effective on other types of pain. As long as you are taking the recommended dose, you can even take them TOGETHER, since they have different mechanisms of action.
You do need to be aware of how much and how often you are taking any pain medication. Overdoses can be very painful (even lethal.) And if you are in chronic pain often enough that you need more than the safe dose, then you need to look into other medications to manage that pain.
(Also, if you are specifically taking Acetaminophen/Tylenol for your go-to pain management, getting some NAC and taking that with it reduces the risk of overdose AND may strengthen the effect.)
One other thing: NSAIDS (ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen being the three big ones) can cause digestive issues with chronic use, including stomach ulcers. That doesn't mean "don't take them," it means "if you're at the point where you're on them all the time, every day, constantly, you should talk to a doctor about either reducing that risk or switching to another medication that doesn't have those side effects."
Additional notes for pain meds: if you have pre-existing conditions like auto-immune diseases that are inflammatory, digestive based illnesses causing pain (crohn's/colitis/related), and other chronic illnesses PLEASE ask a doctor or fellow community members what medications actually work and what might make your illness worse!
I have autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in my digestive organs and learned from a specialist that taking NSAID's actually makes it much worse, and can increase the already damaging effects of my disease. Many people unfortunately don't know this and cause worse damage taking the wrong medication.
unfortunately, also in my experience, most emergency doctors jump to using NSAID's for pain unless you explicitly tell them you can't have them because they're not familiar with inflammatory/digestive illnesses and their reactions to them.
make sure you research what's safe for your condition, because a lot of times doctors need to be told explicitly by you or a specialist if you have intolerances to specific pain meds. Obviously not everyone can afford a specialist, which is why communities of people with similar illnesses are very helpful; they've saved me many times!

GO LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT RIGHT NOW
If you manage an account for a small business or a personal project, go log into your account right now and back up your work.
Things are getting worse on Twitter by the day and the suspensions are not rumors, they are happening. Please make sure to make copies of things you don't want to lose forever.
I talked about this on my Twitter already, but it's especially important to keep hammering in this one major point: this policy applies to the accounts of people who are deceased. Other social media sites have protocols to deal with the dead, and Twitter does not.
Shon Howell was a good friend of mine. He's better known as King Cheetah, a prolific furry artist that had been active since the 90s. In early 2019, he died from cancer, leaving all of his art and social media accounts abandoned.
Once this policy was announced the other day, I realized what that meant. So I went back to check Shon's Twitter, and...
Thankfully, I do have a huge archive of all of his work, and I'm in the process of tracking down and preserving anything that's left. But keep in mind, especially if you're an artist and use Twitter as your main platform: go somewhere else. Make sure your work is elsewhere. Make sure you can be contacted elsewhere. Twitter clearly has no concern about archiving your posts anymore because Elon fucked things up and seems to be invested in continuing to make it worse.
Captions shouldn't be censored. If the video says fuck or cum or cunt the captions should say the fucking word.
Unless it's a slur! No one needs to see that.
If they say a slur in the video, the captions should reflect it. The disabled are not little babies who have to have life sanitized for them.
okay but I feel like ur forgetting that slurs don't just apply to the disabled... children don't need to be seeing the n-word or other racial slurs??
but children DO need to be hearing it? are you actually reading the post here?
Here's how it works when subtitles are done properly:
Audio: Let's BEEP go! Subtitle: Let's (censor tone) go!
Audio: Let's fucking go! Subtitle: Let's fucking go!
Removing swears and slurs from the subtitles without removing it from the audio is implying that deaf/HoH people need babying, unlike their hearing friends and family sitting right next to them. Which is frustrating.
The point of subtitles is to give the same experience to everyone watching, regardless of ability—not to be a more palatable version of what's being said.
Wow! Here’s something incredibly personal.
This is Good Bi Gender. A comic I made to express some feelings I have about my gender. I don’t really have that much else to say about it. Here it is.
does anyone else hate that work takes up like 90% of your life and you literally are always working and have to form plans and important things and even seeing friends or eating meals around work. it's always just work. im spending my life just being At Work. i don't have time for hobbies or for seeing friends bc it’s always Work. like two days off a week isn't even enough because my days off aren't consecutive so i just spend those days exhausted or doing errands or house chores. there is not enough Time. all the time goes to Work. WHY IS LIFE THIS WAY. humans were not meant for this
My friend takes this one step further and refers completely accurately to his girlfriend Danielle as "My partner, Dan"
Also i hate to say it but for some people, boyfriend/girlfriend feels a bit juvenile, say, if youre over 30, or perhaps youve been with someone for a very long time and are committed life partners but not married for whatever reason. Maybe husband/wife feels a little watered down to you and you want to establish the equal nature of your relationship.
Partner is a wonderful word and it should be normalized.
We actively asked people to use "partner" because then using partner doesn't out someone as queer, you absolute fucking cabbages.
It isn't appropriation when people ask you to fucking do it.
