Little reminder that if you don't like microlabels because they feel like they're "made up" or "mocking the community", they're not fuckin for you. They're for the people who understand that labels aren't important and that anyone can have as many or as little as they want. So yes, I'll keep my 50 different microlabels that are all just different flavors of aromantic or toric or non-binary, and if you have a problem with that, it fuckin sucks to be you, doesn't it <2

i have this disease called i will open your message and get distracted and forget to reply and then the notification will be gone so i will not have replied for ages and you will think i am ignoring you but. i am not. it’s incurable

hi im gonna tell you anyway how to speedrun minecraft because you asked

any% random seed:

open a random seed (mostly on 1.16.1). get to the nether somehow. get blaze rods from fortresses. get ender pearls and strings by bartering with piglins. get out. (if piglins don't exist yet, build a tall ass tower and kill endermen and spiders). craft eyes of ender and locate the stronghold and the portal. get in the portal. craft beds. kill the ender dragon with beds and other means if necessary. success!

any% set seed:

as before, you just know where stuff is already. and you often use glitches to get around. success!

all achievements/all advancements:

depending on the version, get all the achievements or all the advancements (again usually played on 1.16.1). grind a lot. realise you're never gonna beat feinberg. settle for second place at best. success?

silly categories:

get a stack of lime whool. or get all minerals. or all types of woods. or whatever your heart desires. it's minecraft. do whatever. success.

100% Disagree

It’s an underdog story about classism in which the folk hero (Johnny) is confronted by a powerful man (the Devil) who tries to exploit the hero’s perceived ignorance and inferiority by offering a great reward with impossible odds. Although Johnny warns him that looks can be deceiving, and that he’s going to regret the dare because Johnny is the “best there’s ever been”, the devil is blinded by his greed and arrogance.

The devil creates an awful cacophony of technically excellent fiddle playing that would be impossible for Johnny to replicate. It’s a trick.

But Johnny just grins at him and starts to play “simple” classic country fiddling songs - Fire On The Mountain, House Of The Rising Sun, and Daddy Cut Her Bill Off. He doesn’t rise to beat the Devil - he simply creates his own music from his home, in the style that he knows, and his love of it and the familiarity of the music make his “backwoods” fiddling more perfect than the Devil could ever achieve.

It is thus the devil’s pride, not Johnny’s, that allows Johnny to Bugs Bunny his way into a golden fiddle.

(In that sense, I do agree that it is the most American song: in a land of prejudice and inequities, great power lies - dormant but ever-present - in those we underestimate and attempt to exploit.)

Also people initially react to the devil's part like "holy shit that's badass" because he's got electric guitar and bass and a whole backing band to make him sound good. Of course he sounds amazing. But if you drill down to the actual fiddling -- and this is straight from Charlie Daniels -- it's not as technically difficult as what Johnny does. It's fast? But it's mostly just going up and down scales.

Here's a good performance -- the devil's part starts around 2:00. Check out how long Daniels just stands there holding his fiddle while the guitar and piano carry the weight. I love that piano bassline but fiddling it ain't.

It's still an American narrative: if you can afford to hire a bunch of more talented people, you, too, can look like a genius. Doesn't make you one.

So there's this thing that's been talked about for the last couple of months. It's a trick to kill the ender dragon with a single bow shot, using the knockback from the dragon hitting you to speed up the arrow. The problem is, it's frame-perfect. There's dragon RNG. There's RNG to get the bow and arrow. It's insanity to want to try it.

HanabiYaki hits it in a day.

Version is 1.11 set seed, where the dragon charges much faster and you can spawn above a stronghold with a completed portal.

Check out Hanabi's description for people involved in developing the strat and congrats on the world record.

So uh. Remember this from yesterday?

Yeah, nsla - another well-known SSG runner - just managed to drop this record by another two seconds.

Set Seed Glitchless is now officially only 0.01 seconds slower than the Glitched category.

Video here, please give them some love.

some tabs have been open on my phone for literally 2 years they r like brothers to me

you are all sick in the head

sorry for getting attached to the white chocolate cheesecake recipe i opened in february 2020. as if its my fault

youtubers love to say “i hope i’m pronouncing that correctly” while recording themselves in a video that they upload to the internet, which they have access to

Hint: its because the video is not as well researched as its presentation implies

Hint: it’s because sometimes it’s hard to pronounce words especially if you don’t use them very often

Don’t leave this in the tags!! They’re good points! An attempt is better than nothing!

It’s one thing to listen to a correct pronunciation. It’s another to actually have your mouth form the words, especially when you’re using a sound you don’t normally use in your native language.

Maybe they’re not saying “I didn’t look up the actual pronunciation and I’m just winging it.” Maybe it’s “I looked it up and it uses a sound that I don’t use in my day to day speech and I don’t think I did it quite right but I tried.”

And sometimes, there aren’t sufficient resources to teach you the correct pronunciation! Sometimes you’ll get bot-made videos that contradict each other.

This this this this. As someone who struggles to pronounce a couple of words I use fairly often my FIRST LANGUAGE, thanks to those particular sounds just being difficult shapes for me to string together coherently, I am constantly afraid of fucking up words in other languages or even just with roots in other languages.

It’s one thing to not even try, but the “I hope I’m doing this correctly” isn’t always “I’m hoping I can just wing this word with whatever I think it’s supposed to sound like,” a lot of times it “okay so I’ve looked it up and tried it a few times so I’m really hoping its coming out right, but I’m not used enough to the language to really be sure .”

Languages are fucking DIFFICULT for a lot of people. Not just the repeating/speaking part, but also the ability to HEAR and RECOGNIZE the patterns and sounds.

[IDS: two screenshots of tags.

The first screenshot reads: #(multiple pointing up emojis) #It bothers me so much ESPECIALLY when it happens in video essays #oh? so you did ALL this research and writing but you couldn't take a second of your life to go search the way you pronounce something? #like FUCK OFF.

The second screenshot reads: #not everyone is out to get you #they apologize in advance for maybe doing it wrong #and you wonder why some people don't even bother to try? #when you tear down those who do even though they admit they might be failing?

You know, I've been speaking and listening English every day for a decade, I'm fluent as fuck, I can have extended conversations about highly complex topics without even thinking I'm doing it in English ... And still, there are multiple English words I just butcher when I try to pronounce them.

Because I can't make certain sounds. I barely can hear certain sounds. Like, "beard bear beer bird"? "Bir bir bir bir" for me. "Bitch beach"? "Bich Bich" for me. My anglo friends swear they hear a difference and, very carefully, they try to teach me how to pronounce "bich" differently from "bich".

So yeah, every time I see someone apologizing in advance for butchering the pronunciation of something... Well, feel you my dude or dudette.

news reporting on murders is always like ‘the victim was described by the people who knew them as polite and funny’ like yeah i fucking bet they did what else are they gonna say. breaking news local man stabbed 1000 times to death, grieving friends and family described the deceased to reporters as ‘a bit of a cunt’, ‘mean and bad’ and ‘just generally kind of annoying, you know?’

It is not the prettiest but here is a little chart I made of skin tones.

The idea is to eye-drop anywhere on the chart to get a unique skin tone instead of getting stuck in the loop of “white, tan, dark”.
