Holyyyy shiiiit. @mychemicalromance just performed their first show since May 2012 and they opened with “I’m Not Okay (I Promise).” I promise you I was certainly NOT okay. This show was truly transportive. It felt like the early to mid 2000s had reawakened in the auditorium; eyeliner and black fishnets and teenage pain felt freshly applied, and everyone was buzzing. At one point, @gerardway asked the crowd who was seeing MCR for the first time and more than half the room cheered. Young teens are still connecting with this music and it’s no mystery way. My Chem are that special kind of band that will always have new fans because they craft whole worlds in their music - and that world so richly speaks to young people. It was such a gift to witness 🖤
