"you only deserve food and shelter if you contribute to society" says people living in countries where nobody's labor actually feeds or benefits their neighbors anymore but exclusively benefits the companies keeping the food and shelter behind the artificial paywalls

You're not nomads relying on each other to hunt and gather anymore, you're talking about stocking shelves for fucking wal marts

And even the oldest societies on earth all took care of the elderly or sick anyway

Just a reminder I do not support AI art, writing, or music in any form. I do NOT care if it’s easier to enjoy your blorbos with ai content. By supporting ai content you’re just literally cutting out human connection and telling human creators that they’re replaceable. As a human you should feel terrible about this.

Anyone who doesn't understand that ai is theft needs to take a step back and reconsider the situation.

Firstly, ai isn't artificial intelligence. It's just a fancy machine learning. It gets fed a gazillion files and then uses statistics to make mush them together. It is not creating an original. It is plagiarism with a thin veneer.

Using ai for art is an insult to anyone who put in the time and effort to create something. Who worked to refine their skills. Who poured their heart into something.

That creation was taken, pushed into a machine which spat out a collage of work and then took credit for it.

Fuck ai art.

AI art is trending again. The people who defend ai and using it to "create art" aren't artists and don't have a creative bone in their body. You didn't create shit.

"you're just mad cause-"

No. You're mad you can't draw or do anything, and mad cause we are calling you out on your shit and not welcoming you into the artist community.

AI steals art. It is not the same as using another persons work as inspiration.

You'd know that if you were an actual fucking artist.

Go fuck yourself.

the breathing in todays entry is top tier, i am scared and covering my own neck!! god they way it was barely noticable and made you doubt if it was actually there until it happened again auuuuugugh

I don’t care how contrived it is. I will always enjoy two characters who don’t like each other somehow getting trapped in the same place, and having to work together to escape, while at the same time growing closer and learning that maybe, the other person isn’t so bad after all.

Obsessed with the idea of being a symbiont's first host. Gaining pretty much nothing from the process because the only memories it has is of swimming around in a cave. Go worm, give us nothing.

new star trek oc: ricky dornt, 18 yr old trill host and his fresh-outta-the-soup symbiont. fresh faced, empty headed, and about to get their shared dick kicked in by the universe

This is really funny, but I think another hilarious possibility is if those worms have completely full, dramatic lives in those pools. So the first host would be telling wild stories from their past life like any other joined trill, and people would be like “Woah that’s crazy where could something like that have even happened???” And they’d be like “Oh in the worm pool.”

oh my god, I never considered worm drama.

star trek heritage post (October 21st, 2021)

Ok. This sounds amazing!!! I now need a whole thing about work drama and a fresh faces trill getting a brand new symbiote!!!

Hell yeah, I want to hear the Worm Drama!

Microsoft announces it will shut down ebook program and confiscate its customers' libraries

Microsoft has a DRM-locked ebook store that isn’t making enough money, so they’re shutting it down and taking away every book that every one of its customers acquired effective July 1.

Customers will receive refunds.

This puts the difference between DRM-locked media and unencumbered media into sharp contrast. I have bought a lot of MP3s over the years, thousands of them, and many of the retailers I purchased from are long gone, but I still have the MP3s. Likewise, I have bought many books from long-defunct booksellers and even defunct publishers, but I still own those books.

When I was a bookseller, nothing I could do would result in your losing the book that I sold you. If I regretted selling you a book, I didn’t get to break into your house and steal it, even if I left you a cash refund for the price you paid.

People sometimes treat me like my decision not to sell my books through Amazon’s Audible is irrational (Audible will not let writers or publisher opt to sell their books without DRM), but if you think Amazon is immune to this kind of shenanigans, you are sadly mistaken. My books matter a lot to me. I just paid $8,000 to have a container full of books shipped from a storage locker in the UK to our home in LA so I can be closer to them. The idea that the books I buy can be relegated to some kind of fucking software license is the most grotesque and awful thing I can imagine: if the publishing industry deliberately set out to destroy any sense of intrinsic, civilization-supporting value in literary works, they could not have done a better job.

If you’ve got an ereader and want to actually own your books, I heartily recommend using cailbre to scrape the DRM off and so you can backup the files.
