I chose this song as my first installment in The Cover Project for various reasons. The first being that it’s my girl, Gaga’s, current single. Gotta promote! But on a more personal level, I chose this song because I feel it describes my relationship with New York City. I moved to New York in October of 2016 and it has been a constant roller coaster. Not only have I just started my adult life, I’ve started it in one of the toughest cities in the world. I’m constantly fighting an emotional battle with New York. It’s like an abusive relationship. Why put myself through the misery of working over 40 hours per week just to live in this city? It kind of defeats the purpose, right? I moved here to make it and all New York seems to be making me is stressed.
I keep reminding myself of all of the metaphors about evolving through adversity (oysters, lotus flowers, diamonds, etc.). These are just growing pains; Puberty, part II. I’ll look back one day and be thankful for this struggle. I’ll just keep holding onto my passion, my “one good one to stay.”
