What The Fuck Is Going On

@jackest-jack

He/They

we need to clown harder on people who pretend to be in life-threatening situations just to get out of being criticized i think. especially when the fake images they use are stolen from people going through actual real life tragedies

nothing recently afaik, im just thinking back to when this happened

One of the best letters I’ve ever seen just popped up on my Facebook memories. Still makes me laugh.

As today is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, it’s a great time to revisit Dinah from Devon’s memory of this historic event. And yes, still makes me laugh.

Today is the 54th anniversary of the moon landing, but Dinah’s diary entry is still absolutely magnificent.

A series about a 400-foot tall praying mantis that works in pest control...controlling humans, that is. Watch it above! ^^^

I just released a compilation of all episodes (minus Gregorsa's notes at the end)! If you feel like getting caught up on them, refreshing yourself, or introducing someone else to the series, this is a great way to do it! And, if you're new to the series...enjoy!

As always, you can help support me on Patreon if you like what you see! All patrons get to see videos early. Additionally, $1 gets you a link to the Discord, $2 gets access to early updates and some bonus content, $5 for your name in credits and more bonus content, $20 and $40 for black-and-white and colored commissions of insect or arachnid characters respectively, and $100 if you want a fully rigged, animatable model of your own!

Thanks for watching!

No, we cannot treat your dog that you sent in with your pre-teen children without you being here. Even better when they aren't certain where you are. And no, you don't get to yell at us for not letting your children make medical decisions about your pet because I'm very certain you wouldn't pay for anything they decided to do.

Yay.

Update: the parents sent the kids in an Uber. And when we wouldn't see them, they sent another Uber to pick them up and take them to a different vet hospital. I assume the parents met them there as that clinic was asking for records from us.

"you don't owe anybody anything" has done irreparable damage to the minds of the youth

this ordeal of living is collaborative. we owe each other as much as we're able to give. come take ibuprofen with me.

"okay but..." "this only applies to..." "but what about..."

we owe all we're able to give. what are you able to give?

the notes are angering me so i'm going to reblog this again and stress something

DON'T EQUATE "WHAT YOU ARE ABLE TO GIVE" WITH "WHAT YOU HAVE" IN YOUR MIND. people are choosing to read the former in this post as the latter when it is not there. only you can judge what you are able to give. on some days, that may be nothing. so don't give anything on those days. only give what you are able to.

this isn't about unhealthily prioritizing doing as much as possible for others over doing anything for yourself, it's about not succumbing to individualism and being willing to help others where you can because that strengthens everyone! it's good to be connected to people and mutually supportive!!

“if no art makes you feel anything, make your own art and feel something” is too raw of a line to have come from a jenna marbles video of her painting a rainbow/polka dot seahorse saying “it’s seahorse time” on a denim jacket

Why do you people feel profound thought has to come from high places? The gutter looks at the stars too

not only did you prove your point, but you showed an example of it in the same sentence

I was making coffee and I heard a "mpeep" behind me so I turn around an on my kitchen floor sits Kotelet, the tiny stray that visits me every day, and to her side sits a big fat house spider, you know the one that gets stuck in your bath.

So I go "Hey ehh, you brought a buddy?" and she looks down at the spider and swallows it in one go -legs and everything- and looks back at me with these cute big eyes

Couldn't get the image out of my head

CRIME SCENE

I literally love that pork fat was sacred to Hestia. Goddess of Workin' the Grill, Goddess of Throwin' Some Honey Mustard On that Bad Buoy, Goddess of Autism Be Damned.

In my heart of hearts Hestia is some grungy looking creole tgirl with a beer belly and an outdoor grill.

I love how we got the introduction to TREE LAW a few weeks ago, when that story went viral on Twitter about the person whose neighbor illegally had all of their trees chopped down because they wanted a city view, so that we would understand what was happening when Universal thought it would be funny to deprive strikers of shade by "trimming" city-owned trees to the point of destruction.

This is an excellent example of organically teaching concepts without relying on tedious tutorials or forced, immersion-breaking expository cutscenes.

A++++ game design. 10/10, no notes.

The Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence River superimposed on a map of Europe

…OH.

I googled it once and the only reason why the Great Lakes aren’t called inland seas is because they are entirely freshwater, not salt.

By any other metric they’d be seas. Superior especially (the big one in the upper left) behaves like a small ocean, and has claimed at least 250 ships and over 1000 people. Gordon Lightfoot wrote a frankly chilling song about her that I’ll include here:

Reblogging for the map as well as for Gordon Lightfoot.

“1. This is how the story goes. A boy raised in captivity falls in love with a sun he sees for the first time, flies too close thinking he can possess it, doesn’t listen to a father’s warning and plummets into the sea. His father grieves, so everyone grieves. The story is immortalised in the boy’s blood, a tale passed down with silkdelicate care through eternity. 2. There is another story. In it a boy asks too many questions, lusts too much for more, dares to question his father’s authority. He is banished from the skies, sent falling from the heavens but he does not die. Instead he is named ruler of all that is cruel, painful and wretched with the world. No one grieves for this boy, as he is deemed the root of all evil. 3. It is the way of the universe for boys to disobey their fathers, for children to question what they know and want more, more from their lives. 4. The way a father chooses to love after this happens is how the story is told. 5. This is the reason everyone weeps for Icarus. 6. It is also the reason no tears were ever shed for Lucifer.”

Rewatching Truman Show for the first time in a long time, and the detail that’s stuck with me this time is the set design.

The characters drive modern cars and hock modern products, but it’s all presented with a veneer of 1950s wholesome applecheeked Americana. Truman’s life is presented as an escape for the audience from the drudgery of the modern day, and the aesthetic they’ve chosen for this is the post-war economic boom. This is the simple time, the movie says. This is the good time. Doesn’t the modern day suck? Let’s go back and see our friends from the days when life was good.

And it’s a lie. Truman’s life is a lie, and the image of white picket fenced suburbia they’ve presented is a lie. It’s an elaborate construction to recreate a false memory that’s comfortable for advertisers. The movie is a satire, but it’s also a very blatant statement against the nostalgia for a golden age which never existed. It’s a lie. It doesn’t exist.

I don’t know. I’m spitballing. I’m biased because I despise mid-20th century Americana and I naturally treat it with hostility, but it’s very gratifying to see a movie kind of agree with me.

Let me tell you a story.

Earlier in the summer, I went to Florida with my friend. We decided to visit a town nearish to where we were staying called Seaside, as we had heard it was a cute place. What I did not know at the time was that Seaside is the place where they filmed The Truman Show. It was a "master-planned community," constructed in the 80s to be the perfect beach town.

Seaside, FL

Seahaven

And yes, it really does look Like That. Not just in their tourist-agency photos, in real life it looks like that. Arguably the irl Seaside is even prettier than movie Seahaven, because the the office buildings where Truman works don't exist; the town is 100% cutesy homes and little shops.

I grew up in Florida and had never heard of Seaside so I just looked it up.

Oh, that's in the Panhandle. That's the part of Florida that is basically Alabama. No wonder.

This sounds like something from The Handmaid’s Tale, ffs.

This was an ad in the early 90's. I first saw it in a textbook in the late 90's, used as an example of the "slippery slope" fallacy.

Now it's over 20 years later. It's happening.
