howdy, jack here. this is my personal blog! i post about podcasts, sailor moon, hades, avatar, current events, and anything else that strikes my fancy.

My Fanfics!

Below is a list of all my fanfic. It's a list of all fics, so rating and such will vary. Please keep in mind if something is marked NSFW. As always, be sure to stop and read any and all tags on ao3 before reading.

Any and all comments, kudos, etc. are always appreciated; plus I always do my best to reply to every comment I get!

I know ppl go wild for king/knight and king/jester relationship dynamics on this website but I do want to pitch: knight/jester. Loyal warrior who's not been known to suffer fools and the fool who wants nothing more than to be suffered by them, working under the same leige. Think about it and get back to me

was talking with gwen yesterday and she was like “yeah leonard nimoy’s cool. it’s cool that he’s gay” and i was like “he’s not gay. i also thought he was gay but he was just nice. you’re thinking of patrick stewart” and she was like “he’s not gay you’re thinking of stanley tucci” and i, thinking of steve busciemi, said “FROM SPY KIDS?” anyway just checked and none of these people are gay apparently. thanks for reading

posts that make people say “stanley tucci IS gay, lol” and then google it and reblog again with “oh, huh. nvm”

Everyone here is thinking of Ian McKellen

something im noticing is the redditors are just commenting on everything via reblogs with reckless abandon. and its so funny bc thats how youre MEANT to use this fucking website but we've trained ourselves out of it somehow.

I feel like a fucking chimp raised in a lab let out into the wild and just doing shit without understanding wtf is going on because I was raised to click the button to get cookie

Honestly we could use an influx of people actually commenting. The hostility against speaking above a low mutter was starting to get kind of weird. Like yeah tag talk is great but so many of the "hello, newcomers!" posts straight up say to NEVER comment, like...what? It's making this place feel empty and quiet even though the userbase is climbing, and having that as a norm makes it so a disproportionate amount of comments are left by people who either actively want to be annoying or are socially oblivious, instead of people who...want to particulate in their community. I've definitely noticed an increase recently of people constricting discussion to tags in ways that pretty much deadend conversation, like by chattily responding to conversation starters from my tags in their own tags instead of by copying my tags and responding.

Between how super long posts don't get blockquote-constricted into invisibility anymore AND how the new site settings mean people see tags on their posts unless they go out of their way not to instead of the other way around... Why are we living like this. It's lonely! Let's talk to each other!

"is this what fandom is now" keeps making me snicker. Back in MY day, all fic was understood to be an affront to the creators of the canon! It didn't matter if it was gen or smut or what, we were seen as creeps and thieves for ~playing with someone else's toys~. I wonder if we were better off like that? Creators saying they like and accept fic is... nice, I guess. But it seems to create these hierarchies of respectability that drain the fun out of fanficcing!

Right! Yes!! Thank you!!!

Until very very recently, fandom was seen as something shameful and a huge part of that was because it's seen as stealing from the creators. I remember when writing fanfiction was seen as ~disrespectful~ to the creators because we were putting our grubby little queer hands all over their stuff and when actors openly degraded fan writers and artists during con panels for not being creative enough to make our own stuff.

Creators trying to restrict fandom isn't new, creators disliking fanworks and their fandoms isn't new, it's not any better now just because they aren't usually calling us gross queers or telling us to get lives.

hate when folk call the Sun “our nearest star” no you dweebs that’s OUR STAR! After everything she's done for you and you want to compare her to some lightyears away ass nobody called some shit like Guncho 785B? We're not spinning eternally around any old ball, we’re three deep in the window on board the Sol Train and she did NOT provide the catering, the itinerary and all the fuel to share credit with some two-bit Proxima Centauri hack. point to these nuts in a constellation while you're at it. i love the sun

An interesting demonstration of how the human brain works.

But also something of a lesson regarding perception, and the unreliability of subjective perspective versus objective reality.

You can be extremely certain about how you perceive the world, your "lived experience," that which you "feel it in my heart." But that doesn't mean it's actually true. And it doesn't mean we have to endorse it, or ignore or outright deny objective reality.

That's a "you" thing, not a "we" thing.

"Walkable city" is not "City where to have to walk everywhere."

"Walkable city" is.

  1. Sidewalks big enough to fit you, your stroller, your wheelchair, your guide dog, or anything else you need when you're getting from one place to another.
  2. Safe crosswalks frequent enough so you don't need to walk in traffic.
  3. Bike lanes to keep bikes out of foot traffic and car traffic.
  4. Accessible and affordable public transit.
  5. Cities where the essentials are close enough you can travel on foot (or in wheelchair)
  6. Cities where it's reasonable to be able to get from point a to point b without requiring you, yourself, to drive

People get so caught up in the "Walkable" part of the term and like to spout "Walkable cities are abelist because not everyone can walk".

Bitch. The modern city structure is abelist because not everyone can drive. And classist because not everyone can afford a car and it's pretty damn impossible to get a job if you don't have a car.

Walkable cities are cities where people can reasonably get from pointA to pointB without requiring a motor vehicle.

"But fae. Disabled people have issues using the paths in modern cities." Bitch abled people can barely use the paths in modern cities. That's kind of the fucking problem.

Also walkable cities have fucking benches. Not only for disabled people. But sometimes you just twist your ankle and need to sit for a moment.

"Put fae. If you have benches, homeless people will sleep on them."

Then get fucking housing for the homeless. Problem solved. They'll sleep in their nice warm homes instead of on the benches.

this is actually true! there have been multiple studies that show that millennials are better at identifying fraudulent links than other generations, and one theory is that rickrolling taught us to be cautious about what links we click!

it’s fascinating to see how much memes have shaped our lives over the years!

it’s been exactly one month since I posted that article link

great job everyone!

Hey, if Cecilsweep is making you consider to get back into Night Vale (which I strongly recommend, it’s fantastic), but you don’t feel like listening to several years worth of content, I suggest you to start with episode 210 - Ten Years Later.

It’s a redo of Episode 1, but with every single difference and development that happened in these ten years. It’s an excellent way to mostly catch up, as well is the beggining of the current arc. After that, we’re currently in Episode 220, so you won’t have to listen to that much to be caught up.

(Also, Night Vale has official transcripts now! They’re linked in the official website)
