For the post about arcana forces being like cthulhu mythos creatures, I tried to stick to the comparison and not talk to much about the anime, while not going too deep in the mythos. Which is impossible if we have to talk about the World and the Devil, as the outer gods they’re based on seems to be the basis of the Light of Destruction itself.

Anyway let’s first talk about Za Warudo. Floating colorful bubbles, an ability to control time, the almost strongest card of them all? That’s Yog Sothoth, the outer god controlling space-time. The thing is, Outer Gods can’t exactly be called people by our standards. They don’t really have thoughts, intentions (or if they do we surely can’t comprehend them), not even an actual body. They are more like incredibly powerful beings affecting the world around them, breaking even the limits of reality.

And I am pretty sure the Light of Destruction is based on Yog Sothoth. Just like it, it is an incredibly powerful entity existing far beyond humans’ existence, deep in outer space, and with no clear soul.

But Outer Gods can take kinda physical shapes, which are called avatars. It’s not exactly them, but more of an emanation of their existence on a scale closer to humans. Yog sothoth has many of those, but a famous one is Aforgomon, known for appearing as human figure hidden by a blinding light, worshipped by many sects and looking for humanity’s destruction. Yeah. Pretty much the light of destruction again.

Anyway we have a basis: the world is yog sothoth, which represents the light of destruction. But something feels strange. In the anime, the world isn’t specifically related to the light. Sure it’s strong, but both with the tarot cards and the arcana forces, the light is associated with the devil. And I am pretty sure the devil is based on Nyarlathotep.

First for the comparison. Nyarla is most commonly shown as a long redish thing with few long tentacles. It’s an outer god known for it’s cruelty and evilness. While most outer gods are like giants killing ants as they walk, not even seeing them, Nyarla is like a child playing with said ants by torturing them and taking off their limbs. And their ants would be humans. It’s the closest to a devil there’s in a mythos, fitting for the Devil card.

But the light of destruction being closer to Yog Sothoth and Aforgomon, can it really be Nyarla at the same time? Well I think the symbolism still works, and Im pretty sure many people will think Im going too far but. Who cares.

Nyarlathotep is also special amongst outer gods because it has a soul, unlike the others. Actually it is the mind of other outer gods. He is called their “messenger, heart and soul.” So Nyarla is Yog sothoth in some way. And i think the three gods: Yog sothoth, Aforgomon, Nyarlatothep, shows the different stages of the Light of Destruction.

First there’s this formless power coming out of a white hole, incredibly destructive yet soulless. This is Yog sothoth. Then there’s the shard of light that ended up on earth, found Saiou, and grew basically as him. Before he has the keys, Saiou and the light are one soul, which is Aforgomon. At this point, while longing for destructing, he isn’t really cruel. This type of evil only starts where Saiou and the light are clearly separated, and it starts calling itself “the will of light”. Unlike before, it isnt a piece of power influencing a human soul. It’s a whole soul and mind dedicated to destruction and suffering. And here, the light does enjoy cruelty and inflicting pain. This is Nyarlathotep. Yog sothoth as the mindless force, Aforgomon as the human with powers from outer space, Nyarlathotep as the autonomous cruel soul. The Devil card is this last stage, the one that Edo and Saiou fears so much.

And I think I’ve covered most of what I thought about. I am not sure if it makes a lot of sense, maybe it’s just me imagining stuff. But even if it’s not real, comparisons and symbolism is something I absolutely love to think about and I wanted to share a bit of the fun!
