Here for the memes and meta-analysis to feed my fandom obsessions

living life vicariously through watching good omens heartstopper and rwrb within the span of 2 weeks and making my entire personality about these 6000 year old gays, teenage gays and 20 something gays

It annoys me when people complain about “all the characters in Heartstopper are queer hurghhh” because… no they’re not. The cishets are just in the background. We see cis straight couples everywhere in Heartstopper, they’re just not main characters. The only (canonically) cishet person we really follow narratively is Tao, but cishets are everywhere in the series. They’re just not the focus. Besides, all the queers conglomerating (by accident and on purpose) is extremely realistic… as any queer person can tell you.

Heartstopper centers queerness, which people find strange because they’re used to media that centers cisheteronormativity. The series just orbits around queerness. But it most definitely does not erase cishets- they’re simply not the focus. Like queerness is in every other series.

ben cutting charlie off while he’s talking by kissing him vs nick always wanting to hear what charlie has to say

ben pretending like he doesn’t know charlie in the halls vs nick constantly saying charlie is his best friend and wanting to hang out with him

ben saying “you know i’m sorry about ignoring you” and “if you’ve finished sulking yet” when he upsets charlie vs nick profusely apologizing when he’s done something wrong and reiterating to charlie how much he cares about him

ben calling charlie desperate and saying he didn’t even like him vs nick constantly complimenting charlie and saying that he loves liking him

ben wanting to keep them a secret because he was ashamed of himself and charlie vs nick only wanting to keep them a secret while he was still figuring out his sexuality and still telling the people closest to them when he was comfortable with it

ben not even wanting to admit that they were boyfriends vs nick loudly and gleefully declaring that they were boyfriends

Hey guys. Here’s some (maybe) hope if you need some.

****SPOILERS BELOW*****

The Bentley plays almost exclusively Queen when Crowley is in the car; this happens regardless of what Crowley would actually like to be listening to. Even when he puts other cassette tapes in, they morph into Queen in a matter of hours if not minutes, like we saw with “I’m in Love with My Car” in S1.

But as we saw on Aziraphale’s little solo road trip this season, the Bentley is much more amenable to the angel’s musical requests.

So it’s very unusual that “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” plays on the stereo right after Crowley brought up the song during their last conversation. It’s the absolute last thing Crowley would *want* to hear at that moment, and there’s a second where he seems to sit and process the fact that it’s playing, before he turns it off without much fuss. If it just happened to be playing, I think Crowley’s reaction would have been much more dramatic.

Which is why I think Aziraphale was responsible for it. I think he was actually under duress - others have already pointed out how threatening and manipulative the Metatron actually is, how much danger his presence means to Crowley and Aziraphale. How it’s possible this was a hostage situation and Crowley didn’t even realize it because Aziraphale was protecting him.

But if Aziraphale was trying to get a message across to Crowley without tipping off the Metatron, this was actually a brilliant way do it. It’s a message only Crowley would understand.

He may have been saying, “I’m still on our side.”

Oh my god I've been so stupid

GIVE ME COFFEE OR GIVE ME DEATH

It was an outright goddamn death threat

You either take the coffee, or take the death

Metatron you nasty little piece of shit

THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE I couldn't understand what the significance of that conversation/the coffee was but I think this is it.

Especially in the context of Metatron saying "For one prince of Heaven to be cast into the outer darkness makes a good story. For it to happen twice makes it look like there is some kind of an institutional problem," and then getting rid of Gabriel for not wanting to do Armageddon pt2 / the Second Coming. How many times has stuff like this happened??

(I saw a post that said Muriel might be an angel that was memory-wiped just like Gabriel given that they were present in the Job minisode and seem overly clueless a la Jim and I can see it tbh)

I bet Metatron is getting more pissed off cause the boss' son is now supposed to have his second coming and if people keep fucking up then Metatron could be in trouble w God? Bringing in Aziraphale means the job opening is filled AND he and Crowley can't team up to thwart it again. Seeing as how the memory-wipe on Gabriel didn't pan out like it likely did in the past, I could see Metatron changing tactics to something more harsh.

I too want to be so gay and in love that my relationship is part of an “institutional problem” and the actual Metatron, Voice of God, has to come down from heaven on high to stealth break us up because the miracles we do together are too strong. Power couple

i will never be against piracy ever but i also need physical media to remain

the average blockbuster carried about 3x as many films than that that are streaming on Netflix or any other streaming service, physical media along with piracy is more important than ever.

I thought this wasn’t true, because how could it be true? How could one small store have more movies than an online database? So I googled it.

I am surprised and depressed to learn it’s 100% true, according to google. A Blockbuster store was required to have a minimum of 7000 titles, but most averaged about 10,000. Netflix has 4000 movies. (And 1800 tv shows if you want to count those, but even included, it’s still less)

Now I’m even more depressed about the collapse of physical rental stores.

"No need to tell him what to observe, or what to remember. He always knew such things. Years ago, when I'd done the dark magic on him, I hadn't had to tell him anything; he had savored the smallest aspects of it all on his own. And later he'd said I'd failed to guide him. Didn't he know how unnecessary that had always been?"

─ Lestat talking about Louis from Queen of the damned

This is one of the cutest IWTV retcons (or whatever you want to call it when Lestat's like "ACTUALLY" in the later books; there's probably a better word for it). Like, yes, Lestat is still being a dipshit and not taking Louis's distress seriously, but that's partly because he's seeing Louis through rose-colored heart-shaped glasses and assuming he'll figure it out. Remember, Lestat's turning was incredibly traumatic, so baby fledgling Louis wandering around staring at the moonlight on the flagstones and touching moss probably seemed incredibly well-adjusted. Of course Lestat was terrified that Louis wouldn't need him.

I've always loved the dichotomy of Louis thinking Lestat is disappointed in him while Lestat actually (and mostly secretly) admires so much about Louis. And it's the same with Louis toward Lestat. They see the things they're missing reflected in one another, and there's this tangle of envy and admiration and resentment that's so messy... and then you get lines like that, where Lestat just says something so tender, just utterly baffled that Louis ever thought Lestat wasn't in love with him immediately.

"Didn't he know how unnecessary that had always been?"

I feel like Aziraphale and Crowley will be forced to speak to each other by Nina and Maggie and so they will sit in one room locked up by them and they’re going to be absolutely fuming and still refusing to talk

But they will finally snap and start fighting through which they will mention all the misunderstandings over the years

YOU DIDN’T TELL ME YOU WERE HOMELESS

IT WAS NOT YOUR PROBLEM

YES IT WAS I’D NEVER LET YOU LIVE IN A CAR

YOU TOLD ME I WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU

I NEVER SAID THAT

YOU CALLED ME ONE OF THE BAD GUYS

THAT’S NOT… THAT’S NOT WHAT I MEANT

I TOLD YOU I LOVED YOU AND YOU TOLD ME NOTHING LASTS FOREVER!

I MEANT THE BOOKSHOP! I CHOSE YOU OVER THE BOOKSHOP!

YOU WANTED ME TO BE AN ANGEL LIKE I WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH THE WAY I AM

I WANTED YOU TO BE HAPPY AND SAFE! YOU NEVER TOLD ME GABRIEL WANTED ME TO SHUT UP AND DIE!

I WANTED TO PROTECT YOU!

I WANTED TO PROTECT YOU TOO!

6 thousand years of misunderstandings until they stop and need to catch a breath because fucking hell and Aziraphale says fuck this and grabs Crowley the way he grabbed him and kisses him

I don't think that Aziraphale fell in love with Crowley during The Blitz. I think Aziraphale *realized for sure that he was capable of romantic love* during The Blitz... because Crowley had shown that he was. These are two different things...

This is a bit long... Controversial opinions below...

CHEERS TO GUY WALTON FOR “OUTING” THE FOSSIL FUEL COMPANIES

From the article:

Walton has devised his own criteria for named heatwaves in the US, based on duration and extremity, on a one to five scale similar to hurricanes. Heatwave Chevron is classed as a four and is “historic”, Walton said. The meteorologist said he has a list of 20 oil and gas companies – including Exxon and Shell – for upcoming heatwaves and will turn to coal companies if he runs out of names.

OUTSTANDING MOVE

Y'all know what to do. Use Walton's naming system. Make it catch on.

If you've ever wondered why people in Hawai'i hate tourists, try to wrap your mind around the fact that there are CURRENTLY, RIGHT NOW, tourists sipping martinis and looking at fish within swimming range of the fresh corpses of local people who couldn't escape the overnight destruction of their entire town.

Try to comprehend that there are fully functional, high capacity boats passing through the waters in front of an area full of survivors who are stranded and in need of supplies, refusing to help. They are hosting snorkeling tours.

Really think about, try your best to actually picture over two thousand people unhoused and in need of shelter, with nothing but the clothes on their backs and nothing to return to. Understand that the island, stolen land, is littered with hotels full of air conditioned of rooms with beds and showers and toilets, each fully equipped to host hundreds of families for weeks, turning these people away because they're booked up with tourists who refuse to leave.

And understand that these tourists were offered free transport to return home or be hosted on other islands. Free. Courtesy of local tax dollars. 4,000 wealthy tourists were offered free flights shelter on Oahu and begged to leave the island, BEFORE the survivors were given shelter.

And enough still insisted on remaining and carrying out their vacations that people are left without shelter and resources while they enjoy "their stay in paradise".

[Edit]: This current situation, and this type of tourist behavior is horrifying beyond words. In other circumstances, the tourism situation is much more complicated, and I need to ask that people do not add on to this post unless they are local.

I think there is A LOT in the fact that Crowley chooses to kiss Aziraphale.

Gabriel and Beelzebub have chosen each other, yet the show is very careful in not having them kiss or even hug romantically; they are Superior Beings, not humans, so they don't conform to humans' way of performing, showing, or possibly even feeling love. If they were humans, I'm sure they would have happily kissed before disappearing into their happy ever after, because that's what (most) humans want to do in such circumstances, and also because it's a fast and sure way to clarify the feelings to the audience.

This is in contrast with the kiss Crowley chooses to give -a very rushed, passionate, not though through, human kiss. He had already talked about his feeling (as Nina suggested), he had already made a confession, no one at that point was in doubt about where he stands for Aziraphale. So why the kiss? It wasn't necessary to clarify his feelings...or was it? I think is was necessary to further clarify them. To me Crowley is not saying just "I love you" with that kiss, he is also saying "I love you in a human way, I love us not the Angels we could be Up There, I love us here on Earth".

He does not want to be back in Heaven, not even with Aziraphale; he's been there, he's been there in a very high rank, he knows that it is not a nice place. He wants to stay on Earth with Aziraphale and that's what he's trying to tell him by choosing to show love in a human way.

The bookshop being filled to the brim with love. Aziraphale’s bookshop being his outward expression of love. That same bookshop being painted dark yellow. The chairs and rugs being a shade of deep red. All the lighting quite dark and moody. Crowley’s eyes being that same shade of dark yellow. The lighting so dark that maybe he’ll take off his glasses. His clothes having that same shade of red. There’s something about Aziraphale’s bookshop displaying his love for Crowley down to the baseboards

The fact that aziraphale has led candles instead of real ones! Wanna bet who gave them to him? Maybe someone traumatised by a bookshop fire? Thinking their best friend died??
