Not only this, I've seen people blame the 2nd wave feminist movement for stagnating wages. They claim that, because women entered and saturated the workforce, employers can get away with paying everyone less. Not everyone comes out and says the quiet part out loud, but a lot of these arguments have the obvious implication of "things were better when the workforce was mostly men and women were just homemakers."
Like not only is this historically inaccurate (poor women and many women of color have always had to work outside the home, for one), it's so victim-blamey. Instead of getting angry at the corporations who keep making more and more record profits every year while continuing to underpay their employees, let's get angry at women fighting for and achieving financial independence.
Btw. I want you to maybe put an emphasis on how women ALWAYS WORKED. ALWAYS. IT WAS JUST UNPAID WORK. If people come to you and tell you about the good ol’ times where women were just in the household, its mostly bullcrap. They mostly worked before as a cashier, cleaning, whatever there was before their marriage (we’re talking about white middle class, as already said, poor people and outcast people had always worked, unless you call working on the field not labour...which is funny because in english giving birth is called labour, soo.....another thing completely sorry my adhd brain just ran wild). But yeah, we always had women WORKING. There was NEVER A TIME IN HISTORY WHERE WOMEN WERE NOT WORKING.
YOU JUST DON’T CALL IT WORK. You call it HOUSEWIFE.
Which until the 19th century was actually in the european society called A JOB. Like NO ONE would look down on women for being a HOUSEWIFE, because we thought they stayed at HOME, WHICH IF YOU EVER WORKED ON THE FIELD IS NOT TRUE.
WOMEN and MEN PLOUGHED THE FIELD WITH THEIR WORKERS. There was NO DIFFERENCE.
So yeah, sorry to rant, but srsly....I am having arguments with people and feel like Im back in the fucking 60ties.....
