What I really love about the Daydream Hour art is that it really shows that the characters in Dungeon Meshi aren’t just characters in a story, but they’re Ryoko Kui’s ocs. And sure maybe this is a perk that’s granted to mangakas that release on a monthly schedule opposed to weekly IDK but there’s just some about getting to see different interpretations of the characters and peeks into what she draws in her free time outside the story.

And like I just love how casually she draws and depicts the characters in her personal work. There’s something for quite literally all the characters and like I said maybe other mangakas don’t have or can’t find the time to do so or choose to not release their personal work like she does but I think these pieces just make the characters feel more alive. Like she’s an oc artist through and through lol

kind of a pointless existence - created to entertain others with their choreographed duel. the winner then brings the other "back to life", performing some necessary repairs. this cycle continues until they degrade completely

I really want to add that exciting seasoning to my art but I do not know where to begin ... all of your art is so visually gorgeous and the different uses of texture is a really unique part of that for me. How do you do it??

i'm not the best at explaining these things since the "texturing" aspect is just me turning my brain off and adding lines wherever. things like hair and fur can follow a shape to show structure, and adding these patterns where two colors meet allows for some interesting effects. it's up to you what type of line you choose to represent things, for example i like short straight lines for fur and round, isoline (isopleth? contour line?)- like ones for odd stuff, such as angel bodies

using textured brushes is nice here as well. i particularly like ones that are kind of like pencils (like the SU cream pencil in clip studio)
