| whatever i please |

You know the whole reason why I haven’t left Tumblr after all these years is because this site is so introvert friendly.

I don’t have the attention span or much less the strength to keep up with Discord conventions (bc apparently fandom is more in Discord these days?? I am not a talkative person to even take part in a group chat *shivers*) or follow with whatever’s going down on Twitter.

I can come on here, make a post into the void and reblog a bunch of posts then ramble in the tags. It’s great. You don’t have to be a person here, you can be a faceless blog and have a grand old time.

Hilda by Duane Bryers

More Hilda!!

in this family we love and support Hilda.

Yes! Hilda!

What i love about this artist’s depictions of women is even the sexualized ones the woman is always genuinely happy and enjoying herself. Frolicking or making funny faces, she’s living her life and looking sexy while doing it, not sitting in a sexual pose for the audience’s view.

I always forget about Hilda and am so pleased when she randomly shows up on my dash. Always makes my day

not only have tiktok and instagram given everyone who makes art Content Machine disease, but the contentification of the process of making art itself (artists posting hyper-stylized tiktoks & reels about the process of making art, forced jokes about being an artist, and “lifestyle” tips on how to #selfcare (with the express purpose of not burning out so you can continue to make more Content) because that’s what the algorithm forces them to do in order to get any eyes on their actual artwork) makes me want to pull my hair out & scream & stab someone. something something the cannibalizing of the tail of the snake by the snake, squared. I have been waiting all of my life for a .gif set of this scene. This struck me so hard when I was younger.

Seriously. I didn’t quite understand as a kid because I too thought she was still so beautiful.

It’s so sad how cruel and shallow this world can be, and the horrible psychological damage they can inflict on people who had so much confidence and still possess potential for greatness.

Yet another example of how amazing this show was.

What makes this even more powerful is that Paige Monroe (Calendar Girl) is voiced by Sela Ward, a real-life model and actress who was infamously turned out of the Hollywood system for being ‘too old’.  In 1995, even though she was a three years younger than Pierce Brosnan (then-Bond), she was turned down for a role in James Bond because "What we really want is Sela, but Sela ten years ago”.  In response she made a documentary, The Changing Face of Beauty, about American obsession with youth and its effect on women.  Then this episode came afterwards.

This wasn’t just a general message episode, this was a specific attack on the sexist Hollywod system by somebody who had been one of its victims.
