i have noticed that SOMETIMES it really bothers folks to discover i am sincere and not playing a character. that tinglers are deep artistic expression. i think it  because these few buckaroos are often kind and even politically left but had problematic ways just a few years back

these buckaroos are forced to confront their previous assumptions about neurodivergence and queerness, which is bound to happen as time trots on and cultural landscape evolves. but this sudden realization they have about themselves apparently MUST be ignored and pushed away

theres BIG TIME buckaroos on this very platform who publicly made fun of and gatekept my autism. these posts are STILL THERE. folks questioning my bisexuality. and these are buds who at one time worked with chuck and were pretending to ‘like me’ in way that i now see was irony

these are a previous generation of liberal ‘comedy forum’ buds who laugh and laugh at ‘ridiculous bad erotica’ and wrote as a money scheme. those who would later say with concern ‘chuck tingle is homophobic for making fun of queer erotica’. the same THEY might gleefully write

and i think their reaction is a way to deal with truth that THEY were doing these things ironically and have ABSOLUTELY NO CONCEPT that someone else couldve been creating joyful queer neurodivergent art during the same timeline with sincerity instead of irony.

so now as chuck gets taken more seriously they have to confront something. question of ‘wait, was i laughing at a real person the whole time? was i calling someone homophobic when in reality it is much more homophobic to MAKE that accusation, because queerness is not a monolith?’

If safety in your ideal society is entirely based on care by networks of affinity, and does not provide care for people who are not liked by anybody, then your society is actually even worse than the situation we are in now.

Pissing off people close to you or over-exhausting your social network or isolating yourself is often an inherent part of many mental health problems, addictions, etc. By the time people need care the most, they have often lost all their networks of affinity, and with some bad luck, any of us could find ourselves in that situation.

There has to be unconditional care available for the more unlikable of us, or there isn't really a safety net for any of us.

The thing that concerns me the most is that the people I see arguing for only informal/community support networks are often in communities that have a lot of interpersonal drama and poor conflict resolution skills. So it's like...this should be your primary support network, but also people get excommunicated on a regular basis? That's a terrible idea for everyone involved. People who have caused harm still deserve help, and people who have been harmed deserve the ability to set boundaries and remove people from their lives in ways that aren't sentencing that person to losing all their options for basic support.

when setting a boundary comes hand in hand with sentencing someone to a slow and painful death by isolation and neglect, setting boundaries becomes incredibly frightening and painful for everyone involved. help should be available to everyone, free of charge and judgement, no matter how bad they fucked up.

How many of us are stuck accepting kinda shit, maybe even abusive, behavior from our elderly parents because they would literally die without us? How many are not setting boundaries because while a person is very shitty to us we still love a part of them and we don’t want them to die?

Safety nets of unconditional care also mean none of us are individually forced to care for someone who is uniquely toxic to us.

When conservatives say that the poor should be cared for entirely through personal charity and not government support, this “networks of affinity” model is exactly what they mean.

Also, they’re perfectly happy with these “networks of affinity” when it comes to college (legacy admission, admission by recommendation, etc.) and employment (“networking”).

I saw someone passionately arguing against trans teens getting gender affirming surgeries. And it is clear they have researched this to great lengths. And it is clearly a super important issue for them. And they probably talk about it constantly online.

And the frustrating thing I feel is... it isn't happening.

But from a statistical point of view, it's not. In fact, these surgeries could increase in frequency by 200% and it would still not be happening.

I think 200-300 top surgeries per year. And maybe 2 or 3 bottom surgeries with very special circumstances.

I can't even imagine what percentage of the population that is.

Compare that to the 230,000 cosmetic procedures done on cisgender 13-19 year olds.

People will say, "Oh well I'm against that too."

But are you really? Are you supporting legislation to stop it? Are you spending hours researching it? Are you having constant debates about it online? Seems pretty low on the priority scale considering it involves like a zillion percent more people.

No. The Christian notion of God is intrinsically Trinitarian, which means you cannot have the Christian God without the Christian Jesus also being God. (Not to mention the Holy Spirit.) Judaism is famous for holding dissenting opinions on most everything; however I will wager that you will find very few Jews who would be prepared to agree that Jesus is God.

From everything I have heard from Jewish people I know personally or follow online -- no. Judaism is not a proselytizing religion. Christianity is, to the general annoyance and occasional death of non-Christians everywhere; but this is because most flavors of Christianity are built on the ideas that people are in grave danger of eternal torment in Hell after death, and that the only way to avoid this fate is to become Christian.* Judaism, so far as I'm aware, lacks the idea of eternal torment, which means that non-Jews are in no danger that can only be averted by becoming Jewish, which means that Jews have no moral duty to attempt to convert anyone.

*This is the official reason. Another, often more cogent reason is that ever since the time of Constantine, Christianity has been used as a willing tool of colonial empires since just about any atrocity can be justified if it is putatively done in the service of "saving souls."
