Lume (he/him) My icon is digitized bathroom tiles. No I don't want to explain it (It's complicated and ADHD fueled nonsense) nor would I want to change it. Also: No place for bigotry here!

I think it's time for me to do this whole new introduction postt thing-y considering the previous one was outdated.

Heya my guys(gender neutral)!

I'm Lume, pronounced /'lu.me/ (or to those who can't read phonetic transcription, it's quite near to english "LOO-may")

I'm a cis guy from down south in the southern hemisphere, BR to be precise. I'm gay and try my absolute best to be understanding of all other parts of the LGBTQ+ community. Although I have found out that I'm not ace I still wish to be friendly and understanding to try and become a great ally to all aces, aros and aroaces.

I love horror in countless forms (watch out because it is possible that you might come across untagged gore in my blog), analog horror, horror games, horror movies and literature.

I also am a massive Minecraft fan and general Mcyt enjoyer, you'll see a lot of it, believe me.

I am a big fan of countless genres of music. I am able to at least vibe with most genres to some extent and can count in my hands the genres that I cannot stand.

I am also a passionate hater of showerthoughts in any way shape or form, maybe that's because of my ADHD maybe that's me being unfair but I don't care either way. Fuck showerthoughts!

I love a lot of animals and a lot of plants even though understanding very little about them.

I'm a fan of weird and unknown/unusual trivia and facts that for some reason I find fascinating.

I love science and academia! Anti-intelectualism has no place here, also READ MORE BOOKS!

I try my best for fight for justice and against prejudice and bigotry every place they might be found.

For a rounding end to this introdution I would like to wish all Fascists, Nazis, Neo-Nazis, Far Right Nationalists, Ultranationalists, TERFs/Gender Critical Scum, Racists, Homophobes (and all other queerphobes) and general bigots a merry PERISH, and get out of my blog and the internet. Try to contribute something useful to society instead of wasting precious air and water.

That's all I can think to say, hope you enjoy it here!

Ciao!

In general, I think it's currently really important for progressive Christians to be very loud about being both progressive and deeply religious Christians, and for everyone else fighting for progressive values to be supportive of them doing just that. I know that's like, idk, counter-intuitive or cringe or whatever, but seriously folks, the alternative is that progressive Christians have to be quiet about their faith to be accepted within broader secular and interfaith progressive advocacy, which means that the regressive asshole Christians (a) sound that much louder and (b) dominate the USian religious landscape all the more. That's a problem, for all of us.

We need people pushing back within the faith as well as outside of it, because that destroys any edifice that this is about Christianity and religious freedom.

You can be a devout Christian and also:

  • Openly, proudly, and without being forced to remain celibate or otherwise limit your full expression of self, identify as LGBTQ+ or be a supportive ally.
  • Advocate for full reproductive autonomy and comprehensive sex education.
  • Love and support people of other religious groups, non-religious people and/or atheists, by choosing to believe that a truly loving God would not pursue anything less than universal salvation.
  • Stand against evangelism and proselytizing as they have thus far been interpreted and used, because there are ways to interpret the Great Commission that don't promote colonialism and cultural genocide.
  • A steward of the earth, protecting God's beautiful creation and lovingly tending to it as the unique and incredible gift that it is.
  • A believer in science, rationalism, and human progress as part of God's divine plan for humanity.
  • A believer in history and someone who understands that the Bible can be both divinely given and open to interpretation (no really)(if you're confused, please talk to a knowledgeable traditional Jew)
  • An ally to Jews, who stands against supercessionism and antisemitism in the church.

And in before regressive Christians come shouting at me that (1) what do I know, I'm a Jew and (2) no lol you can't because of ___ reason:

My source is that I've personally met and talked to Christians of great faith and integrity - people who embody the closest forms of kindness I've seen to what Jesus himself advocated - who are each of these things.

It is 100% possible; you just choose to believe otherwise.

At this point I think it's time to start preaching and claiming the moral high ground here.

Right-wing evangelical Christians want you to think that they're the moral ones, when they EXPLICITLY defy the word of God. They routinely:

  • Evade taxes intended to help the poor
  • Oppress the foreigner
  • Hoard wealth
  • Hate their fellow in their hearts
  • Destroy God's creation that they were entrusted to steward, intentionally and recklessly as well as carelessly
  • Cast the first stone
  • Preach idolatry through the prosperity gospel and the American cult of nationalism
  • Sacrifice their children to Molech through encouraging a culture of gun violence
  • Commit true sexual abominations, such as rape and pedophilia, and/or cover these things up or engage in apologetics
  • Encourage actual child and spousal abuse while calling it "traditional family values"
  • Oppress and demean women, when their main guy uplifted and valued women outside of marginal roles
  • Smugly quote scripture to satisfy their bigotries and to benefit themselves without caring about the true message
  • Fail to acknowledge God as the True Judge by substituting their prejudices for God's love and mercy

.......and plenty more. These are not just a few bad actors; this lifestyle is ENCOURAGED by this irresponsible and immoral cult. They are leading people astray into a life of sin and a culture of callous cruelty.

Is this the Christianity you want the world to know you by?

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

I just wanted to draw attention to your tags:

You very correct that there is a balance, and it can be hard to identify when to step back and when to step up. I am obviously only one person and I'm sure you have lots of your own ideas and experience with approaching this issue. (Notably, I've seen your posts and you are someone I respect a lot for your wisdom, compassion, and spiritual insight.) I certainly won't lecture you on what to or not to do, but I think the points you put in your tags create a great opportunity for suggestions for folks thinking about how they might balance these competing values.

I would say that some key things are:

  • Be situationally aware. You don't need to be extra loud at your comrades who already share your values but not your religion. I would say instead just be yourself and show your religion in the ways that are most authentic to you. You don't and shouldn't need to hide your faith, but you don't need to pump up the volume, either.
  • However, we *really need* you to be loud in the public sphere in response to right-wing Christians who are trying to claim sole authority over all Christianity. To them, I would encourage you to be extra loud about you and yours being the real Christians who actually follow the true message of the Bible: to love your neighbor as yourself.
  • I would also encourage you to learn your religion deeply and on multiple levels: textually, doctrinally, historically, theologically, etc. You want to be able to argue your point well and truly; the facts are on your side. I'd also heavily encourage you to learn about different methods of textual analysis and interpretation for a good measure.
  • The people who you think are good people who have been fed bad religion, to them I would model what a progressive Christianity could look like and use all of your evangelism skills at them. Work on them to help open their eyes to the truth of what God's love looks like in action and lead by example. Why? Because at the end of the day, this type isn't going to listen to us, but they are far more likely to listen to you.
  • To the blatant assholes who aren't going to listen to anyone, though? I would feel free to point out their behavior, words, and deeds as rhetorical counterpoints to what good Christians do, and sort of talk past them. Think, for example, about how this type of person talks about "homosexuals" as if there are no gay Christians. Instead of naming anyone, you can talk about "the idolators who would rather pledge allegiance American nationalism than help their brothers and sisters and siblings at the border or in the detention camps." Just as an example.
  • This is a little off-topic from this reblog, but I am also begging progressive Christians to unpack the antisemitism baked into the foundations of Christianity and do the work to become good Jewish allies. The relationship between Christianity and Judaism creates a unique dynamic that makes it one of the more important axes on which to focus your allyship. And, while obviously combating antisemitism is important in its own right, it's also critical for not undercutting your other important messages. I strongly recommend this site for common pitfalls and possible alternative readings: https://www.betterparables.com/

I hope that clarifies a little of what I was saying and provides folks with some food for thought.

Hey. OP here.

This post has blown up, which like. Good. I'm glad it's reached a receptive audience.

However, I've seen a lot of surface level engagement with it and not a lot of deep reflection about what I'm actually saying here.

So let me be more blunt:

We don't need you to push culturally Christian ideas on the rest of us, which is a form of soft proselytizing. We need you to do some tochecha at your fellow Christians and become a bulwark against christofascism. We need you to walk the walk.

This is not a drill!

That is my point to you, progressive Christians who want Christianity to be a religion of love and justice. That is a promise in the New Testament that has remained unfulfilled. My point to my fellow yidden and other non-Christians is that if you are doing the work, that work should be valued, respected and appreciated, and that you should feel welcome in progressive spaces as your whole self, faith included. I'm Jewish. I know what it means to be told to check your religion at the door. I know how profoundly not okay that is and how much it hurts. I am also painfully aware of how much Christianity has been used to hurt my people and numerous other peoples, both throughout its history and in our present day. I need you to make yourselves painfully aware of this reality as well. I need that deep understanding to not paralyze you from action, but instead spur you into righting those wrongs.

Christianity is not going anywhere. We are at a crossroads: you can choose to allow the status quo of a blood-soaked Christianity to remain, or you can choose to envision and build a better future.

Which one do you think your God asks of you?

"I have put before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life — if you and your offspring would live" - Deuteronomy 30:19

@catididnt your tags here are really important:

This is it. This is exactly what I am asking people to do here, and so thank you for putting it so succinctly.

(appended to this version of this post because I would like to hammer home this particular point)

entirely unrelated to the actual posts above, but, as you can see there is a tiny tiny banner at the bottom of the second posts image. when i first encountered this footer a while ago i got curious, what the fuck is americasbestpics.com? so i checked it out

it pretty much just looks like an ifunny clone, huh? specifically advertising to americans? looks interesting, i dug deeper, trying to figure out where their backend is, and how the fuck they have as many posts as they do if i've never heard of them

wait, huh? what's that? what? ifunny?

oh, so ABPV is run by Funtech Publishing, a company that runs a number of hyperspecific ifunny "clones". wait? funtech is the word funcorp (owner of ifunny) uses to describe their industry? huh? *digs a bit deeper* hm funtech publishing is headquartered in the same city in cyprus as funcorp! hmmmmmmm

oh huh, wow how curious! the main company officer registered for funtech publishing also just so happens to be the former ceo/director at ifunny (at the time of them being main officer at funtech), that surely doesn't mean anything ok so, wait, ifunny runs an ifunny clone, a shady meme/tiktok clone app where you ?? get paid ?? to use the app? (which curiously enough is listed under a different company name and corporate structure, while also being on the funtech website?), a whatsapp status saver letting u save other peoples statuses, some other rly cringily advertised meme focused tiktok clone and potentially some other apps.

this is not an uncommon practice for smaller advertising business focused mobile app dev studios, but i was really surprised to find ifunny doing this, and especially that they would compete with themselves.

I needed this drag. Let’s change guys and not look back

working out your brain is a must!!

• hydrate it by drinking lots of water

• eat dark chocolate and blueberries and walnuts and salmon and other foods high in antioxidants!!

• play little brain games on your phone; I like wordconenct! anything that makes you think!

• read books. It’s simple but necessary. Even better - join a book club, or read with a friend, so you can have discussions after. This will improve your reading comprehension.

• do puzzles - it doesnt have to be sudoku, I love playing Beat Saber on the Oculus Rift because it makes my brain have to match colorful patterns to physical movements very quickly!

• learn a new dance - even a tik tok trendy dance. Learning new dance moves are proven to strengthen synapses!!

• go bird watching, or foraging, or anything outdoors that requires you to explore pattern recognition and visual searching

• watch a movie with the intent of analysis - this is best done with a cinephile friend!! talk about tropes and symbolism and character growth

• cross stitch, or sew, or do anything that requires matching nimble hand movements to patterns

• play or learn an instrument!

• develop a consistent sleep schedule (or as close to consistent as you can get!)

• when eating, try to identify the ingredients and flavors you’re perceiving!

I hope this helps :)

I like how this went from me feeling like “hm why is this attacking me 🤨” at first, but feeling grateful seeing an added guide on a genuine expansion on a “ how to” work out the brain. This genuinely helps a bunch. People find solace in doing activities that get them through life by doing said activities of phone/tv or if that’s all they’ve ever known in their life to get them through things + etc tho. However, this was very impt to point out. Slowly beginning incorporating things to work the brain in ones own time.

best thing tumblr ever did for me is the term "rotating it in my mind". it's really true that sometimes you think about something real hard but you can't tell what the thoughts are exactly. it's revolutionary stuff, i might even say

sometimes the subject of your thoughts is just in this thing

Ah, there it is!

The TUMBLER!

if I could ask God anything and get the real, genuine answer, I'd ask him why He commanded Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. He knew He was going to stop him. He knew that He'd never truly ask him to do it. He knew that if he went through with it then His promise would be frustrated.

The thing is... the story has led parents to think it's okay to sacrifice their children, metaphorically and sometimes literally, for a false sense of moral superiority. How many LGBT+ children have been sacrificed in the supposed name of Christianity? How many autistic children? How many orphaned children? How many abused children?

Maybe it was the right lesson for Abraham, especially about how it paralleled Christ's atonement. But it's not a story that has translated well into modern times.

do you want the Jewish answer? It was to challenge him to think critically about commandments from g-d (and translating to religion as an institution, rulings from religious leaders and scripture), and it's a challenge he failed. He was supposed to, theoretically, fight g-d and say "no, by no means am I going to do this. I don't care that you created everything, that is my child and my world, and I'm not going to do it just because you said so."

Instead, Abraham royally screws up, traumatises his son, and in doing so, loses his son, loses g-d's will and favor, and in the Tanakh we never really hear from Abraham again after this point, because he failed.

It's a story about someone blindly following in faith, and losing the most important things to them because they never stopped to think "Wait, did I hear this right? And if I did hear this right, am I so sure that this is something I want to follow?"

Isaac was Abraham's only son at the time, and the child he had fought so hard to have. Him following an order blindly without thinking of the consequences is not supposed to be a good thing (It just kind of benefits the feudal society that eventually embraced Christianity, which is why the understanding was changed in Christian worldviews.)

just like what a strange little creature. theyre related to hummingbirds. they cant actually sit and perch like most birds, the best they can do is cling to vertical surfaces. almost everything they do is done in mid-air. they have to drink by swooping at the surface of water with their mouth open. they build nests out of twigs they break off of branches as they fly by. they eat 5000-6000 bugs a day. And theyre the next president, of the united states of america

ok but legitimately i think the reason why kids aren’t taking internet safety seriously is because the people who are telling us not to put our personal information out seem so out of touch. no one acknowledges the possibility of meeting very real teenaged friends online, they always say that everyone you meet is a 40 year old white man in disguise. because they aren’t acknowledging things we know are true, it becomes a lot easier to dismiss the rest of what they’re saying as well. internet safety lessons absolutely must keep up with the times and acknowledge the internet’s capacity for good if you want kids to take to heart warnings about its capacity for bad.

Some actual safety tips for teenagers:

1. Have proof they're a teenager first. More than just a picture, have a video call with them.

2. If you want to meet up with them, have your parents or a trusted adult come with you. Even if they are a proven teenager, its still good to have supervision in case any issues happen.

3. If you are talking to an adult, and they start being sexual in any way, you run the fuck away. It doesn't matter if they're 40 or 20. An adult inherently has a power dynamic that teenagers do not. And its up to the adult to act responsible about it. There's exceptions of course, if you're 16 and dating an 18 year old, that's not a problem, we're not talking about that.

4. Being in a server with adults or ran by adults is not inherently bad. Talking to adults is not inherently a problem, and will likely happen in any number of Discord servers. It is only an issue when they are acting sexual and show predatory behavior.

5. Look out for grooming behavior. It can be difficult, because at first it seems like innocuous behavior, like complimenting or giving gifts. Especially if you feel lonely and have low self esteem. And groomers actively target people like that.

If they start trying to isolate you, talk sexual with you, state they depend on you for emotional needs, blame you for their own actions, try to be secretive about the relationship- Then you need to talk to people you trust, block the perpetrator, and call the police on them.

6. If this does happen to you, remember this: It is not your fault. Even if you didn't listen to a single thing listed here, it is not your fault. It is the fault of the adults who knew better, and didn't care. It's not your fault.

To my followers: if any of you guys are underaged, please be very VERY careful on here, and don’t fall for any of the tricks the groomer would use on you, just block them and report them.

Between the channels and between the stations.

That noise you hear, it contains traces of the beginning of this universe.

They have existed and travelled for so long.

Longer than the earth, longer than the galaxies, longer than the stars.

And you can hear them with your own ears.
