Out of curiosity, when this whole culture around hating Dean started? When I was still in the fandom, around 2015, everyone still loved him and excused every bad thing he has ever done (or ignored it) and lately, I just see salty and bitter people, or those sho admit that canon Dean is horrible so they just follow fanon Dean instead.

When did you start hating Dean? When did we wake up to him being abusive?

I started hating him around season 7 or 8, along with my friend. Something just felt very wrong and negative about him but we couldn't understand what at the time. The only thing we could point to was his self-righteous nature that honestly pissed me off. Now, obviously, I do know other reasons (thank you @endiness I love you, was a fan since my gotham hyperfixation lol) but hindsight and all that.

Personally Dean has made me uncomfortable from the start because he’s always reminded me of my abusive dad. This was something I ignored because other people around me around me disagreed with me and didn’t see it and the narrative of the show ignored it so I never really tried analysing my feelings I just remembered thinking that he’s like my dad when he shoved Sam against the bridge (needless to say that was literally the point where Sam became my fave brother)... So Dean just made me uncomfortable for years and I couldn’t pin point why. Which I know comparing him to someone who I did see as abusive but then not having it click that Dean is too, well, beyond an icky feeling doesn’t really make sense but meh.

Most of season 4 similarly made me super uncomfortable (more so than any other season) but I again couldn’t figure out why until season 5 where the way that Dean (and basically everyone) blamed Sam for the apocalypse and the way Dean hat treated him through the season. I could actually pinpoint that what made uncomfortable about Dean at that point and surprise it’s that he is abusive. The uncomfortable ick I felt and the anger kinda died at the end of season 5 tbh.

Which is why I then went through a period of being quite confused by the show and what I thought in regards to the dynamics between characters. However I don’t liked d*stiel and fell into the weird W*ncest anti d*stiel side of tumblr but I’m not sure what the time period of this was I just know that it sadly happened at some point.

Things cleared up for me around season 8 in which Deans abuse became much more clear. This also when I really truly started HATING him like passionately. Around season 9 there was the Ezekiel and non con possession which Cemented my hatred for Dean and there was some anti Dean sentiment on tumblr (at least as far as I can remember) but not that hudge.

Then I stopped watching for a few years halfway through season 10 or 11 and stayed away from the fandom. I started watching again around season 14 and came back into the fandom and there was such a greater anti dean sentiment which I have been relishing in. From what I gather a lot of it emerged around season 13 but I wasn’t there so idk.

Anyways that’s really it. I didn’t mean for it to get so long. But I guess the main thing I wanted to show/say was that it was defiantly a process where I slowly had to learn what I felt and thought about the characters for myself rather than taking the fandoms or shows ideas about what a character is like and there were set backs (for lack of a better word) and there were defiantly long periods of just confusion where I really didn’t know what to think. It wasn’t a single event, season or moment that made me hate Dean (cause I now just hate him no matter what) but rather coming to terms with the fact that Dean is an abuser and hating him because of it is something that happened slowly and at least for me confusingly.
