Glacier National Park is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, I took this photo there last summer. Unfortunately, it is highly impacted by human influenced climate change. Since 1966, 11 glaciers have completely melted away. It is predicted that all of the glaciers could be gone within 10-20 years. It is estimated that 50% of freshwater uses by humans is sourced from the mountains. In a warmer climate, droughts will become more frequent and the demands for water will increase. A warmer climate will also bring more rain than snow which will cause the glaciers to melt. If the glaciers melt, water resources will be extremely limited. Water is critical for wildlife and plant life in Glacier, and without it, populations could die off or be forced to relocate. Reducing our carbon emissions is necessary in order to preserve these beautiful glaciers. A few simple things you can do in your own life to reduce your carbon footprint are: use LED light bulbs, eat locally produced and organic foods, reuse and recycle, and walk/take public transportation/carpool.
