GAYMAZING :D

I know this is a long post - but omg it gave me feels. Can you imagine how intense their love had to be to survive how homophobic it was back then. 😭😭😭

So fucking important…I can’t believe how brave all of these people were ❤

Why does everyone love Jonathan on Queer Eye?

Because I love being taught to love myself. Being taught skin care regiment by a beautiful gay man who looks like Jesus. He’s powerful. He’s positive. He’s giving you a home made DIY lip scrub made from honey, coconut oil, sugar, and essentials oils that you can make with your mother and kids. He’s teaching you how to use green tinted concealer for the redness in your skin so you can get your ex wife back and take her to a car show. Jonathan is love, and powerful vibes in your bathroom when you’re not feeling your best. Self care starts somewhere. And he’s giving you the first step. Go gay Jesus.

The moral of the story is that if you see JVN on your dash: reblog him and be blessed with clear skin, smooth hair, and a walk that destroys empires.

Amen to Gay Jesus!

If you love JVN you must watch Gay of Thrones…funnyordie

Jonathan is amazing. I love him so much. <33333333

It’s both a tragedy he’s single but also, no one is good enough to date gay Jesus.

Edward Charles Pickering (director of the Harvard Observatory from 1877 to 1919) decided to hire women as skilled workers to process astronomical data. Among these women were Williamina Fleming, Annie Jump Cannon, Henrietta Swan Leavitt and Antonia Maury. This staff came to be known as the Harvard Computers.

The first woman hired was Williamina Fleming, who was working as a maid for Pickering. It seems that Pickering was increasingly frustrated with his male assistants and declared that even his maid could do a better job. Apparently he was not mistaken, as Fleming undertook her assigned chores efficiently. When the Harvard Observatory received in 1886 a generous donation from the widow of Henry Draper, Pickering decided to hire more female staff and put Fleming in charge.

As a result of the work of the women “computers”, Pickering published in 1890 the first Henry Draper Catalog, a catalog with more than 10,000 stars classified according to their spectrum. Pickering decided to hire Antonia Maury, a graduate from Vassar College, to reclassify some of the stars. Maury decided to go further and improved and redesigned the system of classification. It was published in 1897, but was largely ignored. Afterwards Pickering decided to hire Cannon, a graduate of Wellesley College, to classify the southern stars. As Maury had done, Cannon also ended up redesigning the classification system of the spectra and developed the Harvard Classification Scheme, which constitutes the basis of the system used today.

Henrietta Swan Leavitt’s insight that all the variable stars in the Small Magellanic Cloud are roughly the same distance from Earth, led to her discovering a direct relationship between the period of Cepheid variable stars and their intrinsic brightness. This discovery, in turn, led to the modern understanding of the true size of the universe, and Cepheid variables are still an essential tool for the measurement of cosmological distance.

Wow. Just wow.

The fact that nobody is talking about Secret’s new commercials pisses me off

This makes me so happy ☺️

Yesssss😭 I damn near cried

I LOVE THIS OMFG

YOOOOOOOOOOO THATS AMAZING!!!!!

Can someone help me understand I wanna cry to ..I feel something went over my head

The woman in the bathroom is trans and is scared that if she comes out of the stall the women that walked in will insult or harass her. but when she comes out they compliment her on her dress instead. The add ends with saying “stress tested for women.” It means Secret is including trans women in their definition of women.

I can’t tell you how fucking important interviews of Kate McKinnon with her cast mates are to me at the moment. Like how she’s an out lesbian and she touches these straight women so casually and platonically intimately and flirts with them like it’s not big deal at all!

I came out at 14 in a christian private all girls school and from then on no one would change in same locker room as me. eventually i just started changing in toilet cubicles. i had grown up with all of these girls and i wasn’t attracted to any of them but the minute i came out they saw me as a predator.

i had one friend who i was comfortable hugging and touching intimately and everyone thought we were dating and i eventually had to stop doing it at school because i didn’t want my friend to suffer the same homophobia from students and staff that I was. And god I missed hugs so much. I was so fucking touched starved and miserable.

And now I’m almost 22 and I still have issues showing affection to women - especially straight women. I am by nature a cuddly person but those years have made me very self conscious of touching other women and being perceived as a predator or making anyone uncomfortable. I have to make a huge deal of not looking if a girl is changing in the same room as me because I’m so scared she might thing I’m perving on her.

But now I get to see an out lesbian on tv hugging her straight female friends, putting her hand on their thighs so casually and I know it sounds stupid but god that’s so important and amazing to me. I just wanna go back in time and show these clips to my 14 year old self and say “See! It’s fine! You’re not a predator! You’re not what they say you are! It’s ok to want platonic physical contact from your female straight friends. Just because you’re attracted to women doesn’t mean you can’t have intimate platonic relationships with them!”

I just - god I’m so grateful for Kate McKinnon now. I’ve only known about her for a few months now but she’s already made me feel so much better about this huge hang up I’ve had for years and I hope that other WLW who have been treated the way I was (because I know this is a hugely common thing we face after coming out) are finding her comforting and helpful too.

THIS POST IS SO BEAUTIFUL

<3 this so much.  I came out when I was 18, a new freshman at a really small school, and started dating my college soccer teammate.  (Really those things happened in the opposite order… we started dating in secret and then were outed, but you know…)  Being on a woman’s athletic team and being in a sorority (I stayed in it because she joined, you know how that goes too, haha…) were not easy places to be gay, and it didn’t help that it was 1999 and I was in Georgia and that, at first, we were the only ones.

Being in those really female-centered spaces made me feel so dirty and awkward and miserable, like it was wrong for me to even be there.  I’d grown up being the “good kid,” and suddenly it felt wrong and bad for me to even be around women at all – and here I was in this one space where we were supposed to be physical with our teammates in every practice, every day, and in another where most girls were often hugging each other or sitting in each other’s laps or playing with each other’s hair (my mom thought all of my sorority sisters were lesbians; I had to explain that they were all just Southern).  I didn’t want to touch anyone… didn’t want anyone to touch me.  It didn’t feel okay.  Even now it’s hard for me to really articulate that feeling, but I bet most of you know what I mean.  I did feel like I was being viewed as if I were a predator, or worse, I felt in my own head that I somehow WAS a predator, and I did all of the things feminismfox described above to avoid anyone thinking the wrong thing.

I could tell you so many awkward stories about locker room jokes that went wrong and ended up with me and another semi-closeted basketball teammate just sitting in the hall outside of the locker room instead of taking showers, or about our soccer coach deliberately putting me and my girlfriend on separate floors of hotels and forbidding us to go into each other’s rooms, or about our sorority basically holding a whole-chapter meeting to deal with the issue of what to do with US, once everyone found out we were together.  I remember awkwardly avoiding each other in our sorority house for years… our assistant coach telling us that we couldn’t tell anyone we were gay or we would tear apart the team and scare away recruits… our one (oblivious) teammate telling new freshman that showering wasn’t a big deal, because “it’s not like anyone here is gay, right?”  It was a constant struggle trying to figure out how to behave in those environments, how to interact with the women around me, and how not to feel horrible about myself in the process.

People talk about the homophobia and the denial and the fear of coming out, but I think the hardest thing to talk about is the shame.  It’s been 17 years since then, and sometimes when I realize I’m the only lesbian in a group of women I still feel a wave of that awfulness.  You’re so right, feminismfox… people like Kate McKinnon (and not to mention her amazing co-stars, who treat her no differently) help to fix that awful feeling a little bit at a time.

I don’t care if Hillary Clinton is corrupt. I don’t care if she lies, if she cheats, if she eats bowls of newborn chipmunks for breakfast.

She is literally the only thing standing in the way of a fascist dictator becoming President of the United States with a Republican majority congress that guarantees he can do anything he wants and nothing will be able to stop him.

I was and still am a Bernie supporter, and I hate a lot of things about Clinton, but none of that matters anymore. If Trump is elected, people are going to die. Women are going to die when Roe v Wade is overturned and Planned Parenthood is defunded. LGBTQ people are going to die when conversion therapy is further legalized and more bathroom bills are passed. POC are going to die as Trump rounds up Mexican immigrants, gives more power to the police, and fuels the fires of Islamaphobia. Poor people are going to die as Obamacare gets overturned and further cuts are made to welfare programs. And that’s just in this country. That’s not even taking account the all-too-likely outcomes of Trump starting new wars in the Middle East and having control of nuclear bombs that he’s said he ‘would not rule out’ using.

This is no longer even about ‘the lesser of two evils’. This is not ‘scare tactics’. This is literally life and death. Don’t fuck around and tell me you’re voting third-party or not voting at all, because you don’t have that luxury.

I am delighted that this post has gotten as many notes as it has, but as Election Day grows closer I would like to flush it out with some additional information and facts, particularly for those people who are still considering voting third party and those who still consider Clinton “just as bad” as Trump.

Why you shouldn’t vote third party AT ALL: x, x, x, x (hint, it’s because the electoral college presently makes it impossible for third party to win)

Worried about Clinton’s scandals? John Oliver breaks it down.

Concerned that Hillary Clinton defended a child rapist? She tried to get out of it, but she had no choice

The official Republican platform includes banning abortion, overturning marriage equality, no background checks for purchasing guns, declaring coal “clean energy”, religion used as a guide for legislation, a border wall, and pornography declared a “public menace”.

Please do not waste your vote. You can complain about Hillary Clinton as much as you want, but complain about her while you vote for her.

I try to avoid politics on my blog, but this is seriously important.

I'm not even from the US. But I can't not reblog this.

Hillary Clinton played Donald Trump like a grand piano tonight. And I would like a million encores.

I want everyone to know what Hillary Clinton did tonight. It isn’t just that she ‘won’ the debate; Democratic presidential candidates have been winning these debates on substance since 1980 and often, it doesn’t help them in the election. She went in there tonight with two objectives: 1) make people warm up to her personally and 2) make Donald Trump self-destruct. Donald Trump’s objective was to make people believe that he is a grown-up, or at least that he can pretend to be a grown-up for ninety minutes.

I knew how it was going to go down as soon as she said, “Donald, it’s good to be with you.” I knew for two reasons. First: because she really meant it. She was genuinely pleased to be on a stage with him. And it’s not because she likes him. It’s because she knew she was going to fuck him up and she knew exactly how she was going to do it and she was really looking forward to it.

Second: she called him Donald. She called him Donald all night long. Consistently and deliberately and for three good reasons. One: it reminds everyone that he has never held a position that gives him any right to a title other than “Mr.” Two: it seems friendly, but it also really pisses him off. And three: By calling him Donald, she avoided repeating his brand name.

This is the level on which Clinton and her team are working. Donald Trump has staked everything on his last name–the name he inherited from his father. It’s Trump this, Trump that, Trump the other. When he puts his name on a thing, it doesn’t say Donald anywhere, it just says TRUMP. TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP. Trump is a good brand name. It’s a noun, it’s a verb, it’s triumphant-sounding. “Donald” has none of those qualities. If she’d been calling him “Mr. Trump,” every time she said it, she would be advertising the Trump brand, which is of course the exact opposite of what she’s there to do. So she called him Donald. And he could not take it.

Without losing her temper, raising her voice, or descending to his level, she made that bastard reveal himself to the Jedi. She brought up things that are going to seem completely unsympathetic to voters, but of which Trump himself is really proud: like not paying any federal taxes (”That makes me smart,” Trump said), stiffing his contractors (”Maybe they didn’t do good work,” Trump said; “I took advantage of the laws,” Trump said), his repeated bankruptcies, the $14 million loan from his father (”A very small loan,” Trump called it). She noted that he exploited the housing crisis for personal gain (”That’s called business,” Trump said). She called him out for his racism; he responded by proving that she’s right (Trump, apparently, is aggrieved that he did not get a medal for opening a club that did not discriminate against Black people even though it was in a really nice part of Florida). When he made what to me was a cryptic jab about her “staying home” while he was traveling, she just smiled and said, “I think Donald just criticized me for preparing for this debate. And yes, I did. You know what else I prepared for? I prepared to be President. And I think that’s a good thing.”

He tried to talk over her. She ignored him. That was beautiful. One, because it’s exactly the way Trump should be treated, all the time; and two, because it made him even madder. His inability to get a rise out of her made him lose his mind. This is a man who wants to be President of the United States. And he spent an entire 2-minute segment begging people to call Sean Hannity so he could vouch for the fact that Trump was always against the Iraq war. Nobody would talk to Sean Hannity, he complained. Why would no one talk to Sean Hannity?

She was capable of actually remembering the original question and getting around to answering it after dealing with the human distraction standing next to her. He often seemed to completely forget the question seconds into his answer. At times, he was so busy talking over the moderator that he didn’t even hear the question.

Hillary Clinton has been dealing with entitled, narcissistic, patronizing, asshole men her entire life as a Senator and as Secretary of State. She has skills in this area. She used them all tonight; and she enjoyed doing it. She looked like she was at ease, confident, and having a great time. She looked young. That was the way I put it to Mrs. Plaidder, and she agreed. She looked fresh, and energized, and exhilarated by the challenge. And that only made Trump’s “stamina” bullshit seem even dumber.

She stayed focused, despite his distractions. She dropped every bomb she came to drop at exactly the right moment. She used everything he bragged about against him. She made him too mad to put together a coherent sentence. And she smiled.

We knew she could to the job. We now know she can win this election.

During, I believe, the 2012 presidential election, people used to pass around a photo of Obama pointing forcefully at the camera with the caption, “Everybody chill the fuck out. I got this.”

Y’all can chill the fuck out now. Hillary Clinton has this shit handled. She knows how he works and if he is ever fool enough to share a stage with her again she will fillet him. And yes. I AM WITH HER.

Haha, I fixed the shirt I got back in 2005 under the G.W. regime, when being an American abroad was shameful. It used to say “my president,” ha…I took a stab at the Russian, but I wasn’t sure how to fix the Greek or Arabic! #readytotravel (at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport)

We should have this for the Philippines President as well!

Oxford Dictionary is under fire after Michael Oman-Reagan, an anthropologist and Ph.D. candidate, pointed out these instances of sexist example sentences accompanying words like “rabid” and “shrill.” At first, Oxford Dictionaries responded with the above flippant tweet — but later apologized and vowed to change at least one of the words.

WOW this is so not okay

This is what we mean when we talk about invisible sexism. Each of these makes perfect sense to most people, fits perfectly with our social context and our cultural worldview. Only when they’re put together do you see the pattern all at once and go “oh…yeah that’s actually kinda fucked up, isn’t it?” Because tiny, invisible things create a cultural context which builds into an overall attitude of mocking, minimizing, and dismissiveness towards a full half of the population.

My mom posted this on Facebook and I had to share it. This is so important. Create the future you want to create. Yes, our children need to be strong but not just to withstand cruelty, but to overcome and change it. 🙏🏽❤️ #MamaBearKnows
