So obviously furries exist but the Tories and the British media trying to whip up a culture war frenzy about “Kids in schools identifying as cats” runs into one major problem…
Kids fucking love to wind adults up, especially those in positions of perceived authority.
Imagine sitting in class, knowing if you say something funny that it could end up on national news because your head teacher is a frothing culture war bigot.
Imagine all the other kids going along with it and backing them up.
If you are so well-known as a strict asshole that you are noted as "Britain's strictest head" in a headline, I absolutely promise you the kids are not only always fucking with you but inventing new ways to do it.
the worst thing in the world is doing things. the second worst thing in the world is not doing things. how has no one ever come up with a solution for this

Let's take it a step further and admit that many jobs, if not most, can be trained for upon hire. And everyone deserves a wage or salary that affords them not just the basics but a good life.
The tweet is a reply to "HBCU GRAD" (@/onlyonesqueeze) saying:
Stop requiring a Bachelor's Degree for a job that pays $40,000/yr.

“transition poses some ethical questions. Such as, from what age should you be allowed to irreversibly change your body.“
This of course completely ignores the fact that puberty makes irreversible changes to your body. But let us just rephrase the question: “from what age do you gain bodily autonomy?” Now it gets very easy to answer: From the moment you’re fucking born.
I’m sorry, I’m reblogging this twice in a row it is that important
Stand up and say it again for the people in the back row.
This is all completely true and correct, of course, but on the topic of changes that irreversibly change a child’s body, prithee, go and talk to a fucking ballet dancer.
If you start ballet at 16, you are too old to ever expect to be able to do it seriously. If you start at 12 you’re too old. If you want to do ballet as a serious thing, as a career, you need to start at like eight years old or even younger, because your bones and joints need to be trained while they’re still flexible in order for you to be able to perform many of the required motions and stances of ballet. In particular, you need to be able to perform turnout of the hips, but all of your joints in your legs and feet will be affected, and this irreversibly changes your body.
And yet! Nobody talks about this as a negative thing! Little girls say they want to be ballet dancers, and if their parents have enough money, that’s what they get to be! Does it cause problems in later life? Yeah, sometimes! Often, even! But nobody talks about that because it’s a thing for cis people to do and so naturally it’s all fine!
Go and talk to a fucking ballet dancer.
Even common everyday sports do this. If you play soccer for a few consecutive years sometime between the ages of 8 and 15 it will permanently affect your knees. If you play a lot of soccer and for longer it will affect the entirety of legs, muscle and bone, and not for the better. Almost every soccerplayer in the world has a shortening of the back of the thigh muscle that will cause pain as they age. Most develop severe knee problems by the age of 30. People don’t age out of sports in general around 30 because they’ve “passed their prime physical condition” in the sense that age has taken it’s toll, but in the sense that the sport itself has taken it’s toll. And yet, no one is advocating against letting children play sports.
Barnes and Noble booksellers are working on forming a union as well!
Their flagship store and New York has unionized along with 3-4 other stores! This is happening! People are tired of being seen as dollar signs and being made to work just to get to work more, to survive instead of thrive. Keep it UP.
I’ve seen a few ~aesthetic~ photos of rock stacks in rivers recently and this is just a reminder that you are destroying habitat when you move rocks around in rivers and streams.
In addition to dragonfly nymphs, rocky river beds are home to lots of other larval invertebrates like damselflies, mayflies, water beetles, caddisflies, stoneflies, and a bunch of dipterans. Not to mention lots of fish and amphibians!
Plus large scale rock stacking can change the flow of a stream and lead to increased erosion.
Anyway dragonfly for admiration:

Everything is something’s habitat. You might as well not go outside for fear of stepping on some larval beetle.
This is hugely missing the point. The idea is to enjoy what’s left of our natural spaces while having as little an impact as possible. It’s not difficult to avoid intentionally destroying habitat. I recommend looking into the Leave No Trace principle which is very important for conservation. Cynicism doesn’t help anything.
You can read more about Leave No Trace here.
Like okay then, congrats on being trans, you fucking idiot
“On Wednesdays we wear pink.”, but it’s 1830s and the Romantic era is in full bloom.
Hey remember when they found over 200 bodies of native children buried behind a residential school and the world cared for... what, a week?
They've counted about 6,000-7,000 now, for those of you who do still care
It should NOT fall on Indigenous people's shoulders to keep this known still. We’ve been doing that for generations at this point and NO ONE wants to listen to us.
We’re tired, mourning and constantly reopening our trauma and pain to keep people caring about us. It’s terrible.
I should start by noting that I am white, and not Canadian, and that if op wants me to remove this comment for any reason, please let me know.
This is a map of all the residential schools in Canada:
[link to the article it’s attached to, it’s interactable there, so you can get a better look around]
Each dot on this map represents a residential school. Blue dots mean the school is considered completely searched. Yellow dots mean they are either in the process of being searched or there are plans to be searched. Red dots indicate that no search has happened and that no search is currently planned
There were more than 130 residential schools in Canada. This map suggests that only six have been fully searched, and a little more than a dozen partially searched (I counted 15 yellow dots). That leaves at least 109 schools completely untouched.
Let that sink in; if 6,000-7,000 unmarked, indigenous children’s graves were found by searching less than a fifth of all the schools, how many are still undiscovered.
Wikipedia estimates that the body count could be over 50,000, and honestly, that could be a low estimate
[ID: A map of Canada with dozens of dots on it, 6 of which are blue and 7 of which are yellow; the rest are red. Later there is a screenshot from wikipedia reading, “Estimates range from 3,200 to over 50,000 children that were killed. Most of the recorded student deaths at residential schools took place before the 1950s. /end ID]
The residential school system was a calculated, open, and forthrightly declared attempt at the total genocide of all indigenous peoples in this country. It was literally meant to wipe them out entirely, through a combination of attrition and assimilation.
Never forget that this is what Canada is really built upon.
These are the residential schools in the U.S. I've mapped out the ones in California and there are articles about burials on these sites, some marked and some not.
I hope Secretary Haaland's Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative investigates every single one; their report is Due on April 1, 2022,
It's now July 2023, so let's look up the report:
On May 11, 2022, Secretary Haaland and Assistant Secretary Newland released Volume 1 of the investigative report. This report lays the groundwork for the continued work of the Interior Department to address the intergenerational trauma created by historical federal Indian boarding school policies. It reflects an extensive and first-ever inventory of federally operated schools, including profiles and maps. The investigation found that from 1819 to 1969, the federal Indian boarding school system consisted of 408 federal schools across 37 states or then territories, including 21 schools in Alaska and 7 schools in Hawaii. The investigation identified marked or unmarked burial sites at approximately 53 different schools across the school system. As the investigation continues, the Department expects the number of identified burial sites to increase.

spoiler-free review of Barbie (2023): I want to compress this movie into a stake and drive it through Joss Whedon’s heart and watch the life leave his eyes before comprehension can dawn in them.
10/10 would and will go see again
