Something Worth Waking Up For
There had been a time in her life, quite a long stretch of time in fact, where everything had felt really and truly worthless. Every morning came, like the one before - suitably blocked out with the curtains and with Rita barely able to open her eyes and face the day.
After Harry’s death nothing held any sort of meaning. There were more days that she cared to admit where she never even got out of her bed. That was partly the reason behind getting Poseidon. The cat had been nothing more than a bundle of fluff when she got him, completely incapable of looking after himself, giving her a purpose to start getting everything back to as close to normal as possible. Harry had been such a large part of her life on land, his loss left a huge absence in every aspect.
Nowadays thought, it was a completely different story. When she woke up every morning, whether on land or in the water, with Veridia. Veridia liked to make a point of teasing her for being ‘affectionate’ and enjoyed going on about how she woke up with Rita clinging to her or lying on top of her. Not that it wasn’t exactly true. There were some times when Rita woke up first she would deliberately do it, just to keep Veridia there for longer. After all it was nice having something that was worth waking up for.
