lobdell literally wrote bruce beating jason so badly that jason was barely able to function for WEEKS and ultimately had to use alien technology to heal himself, and then he just. blew it off two issues later. with bruce saying that jason needs a “kick in the ass” sometimes like bruce BEATING HIS SON to near-unconsciousness was some kind of tough love bullshit. lobdell CHOSE to write bruce as a physically abusive father and then two issues later tried to blow it off as “yeah it wasn’t really that bad and also jason kind of deserved it, nbd”

jason’s voicemail at the end was really just insult to injury like lobdell physically cannot write more than a couple issues without either abuse apologism (all that shit w/ trying to make readers feel bad for willis a few issues back as if lobdell hadn’t, again, INTENTIONALLY WRITTEN HIM as jason’s abuser in rhato v1) or shitting all over other characters (every sentence of roy’s characterization in the n52). like i guess it was supposed to be? funny?? that jason called roy a “mediocre archer” and a “half-assed superhero” right after finding out that roy was DEAD but honestly lobdell has never given the impression with either rhato run that he sees roy as anything more than that. so the big takeaways of this issue were “jason deserved to be physically beaten by his father” and “don’t forget roy sucks even though he’s dead”

i really thought that i couldn’t be surprised by anything else that lobdell wrote but yall this issue was Bad
