Me when i get back from work tomorrow. I just finished the pokédex in time for the REAL treasure hunting game.
Playing Dragon Quest 7 but drawing the maps and writing down clues, because it’s easy to get lost in this game. This is the first area in the past that Hero, Kiefer and Maribel visit. After having opened up the Shrine of Awakening. Drawing maps was necessary before the Internet was a thing. I remember trying to keep track with a notebook as a child for games such as Metroid on the NES. There was also a Nintendo magazine that helped us out a lot 😂
slime goods product review #3 - DQIX character making figure (slime shield version)
today’s item is a rare instance of dqix specific merchandise - something that it is unfortunately hard to come by - featuring 9 year old me’s top 10 armour items the slood and the gooey gear. any chance i could get i would shove my characters into the goop, so when i found out about this little grumpy friend he was straight on to my wishlist and after a month or two of regularly scouring zenmarket i managed to get my hands on him! he stands at about 1.5 inches or 38mm, which makes the paint job not being completely botched pretty relieving, given that he is a very small blind bag figure from about 12 years ago. i think i would have liked it if the “seam” on the back of the slood was a little less visible, but it’s easy enough to forget if you’ve placed him somewhere where you only ever see him from the front.
the whole gimmick with these “character making” figures is that you can mix and match the pieces from other figures with one another - i unfortunately don’t have any other figures in the series so i can’t show any examples, but i can show how he’s taken apart and let your imagination do the rest.
price wise it’s hard to say if it’s “worth” it - for one it’s difficult to get a handle on what the retail price even was originally - myfigurecollection lists the figures at 350jpy each (around 2.39usd), and cdjapan had a 12 pack listed for 4620jpy (approx. 31.49usd) which sounds about right to me. that price seems reasonable enough, but i don’t really know how that would scale accross the years, given that the second set of these figures (in which the slime variant was released) came out in march of 2010 (the first set having been released the year prior). i paid 1180jpy (8usd-ish), which includes the service fee the proxy costs, but not the shipping. whether that’s too much or not is for you to judge - i mostly wanted this figure for special interest reasons. (i will say that that price is CERTAINLY better than the 20-40+usd per figure prices i’ve seen floating around on ebay) it’s not my most favourite slime product i have by a long stretch, but dragon quest ix is so very important to me which pushes it up a bit, and i’m honestly waiting for the day i end up buying the other character making figures somehow too. 7.5/10 slimes.
