Every time you smile at me.
One moment more into infinity.
In a life supposed to be finite.
Presencia
Cada vez que me das un sonriso
un intre máis no infinito.
nunha vida disque… finita.

In 2016 I began a series of black and white portraits called “My America”. This was around the same time that Trump’s vision of a whiter America began to take shape. A view completely counter to the America I know.
I thought now was a good time to start reposting a photo a day from this series. Some of these people are friends, some are acquaintances and others are complete strangers, but combined, they are the true face of this nation.

Fluctuations in the City.” He exited the station's ticket gate. The city at dusk was enveloped in a hazy light. His vision was distorted, and everything seemed to shimmer. The lights of the street lamps were blurred, like the sun looking up from the bottom of the water.
Where am I now?”
Such a question came to mind, but there was no answer. No, there may be an answer, but it is probably out of his reach.
People walk past him at a brisk pace. They all seemed to have a purpose. They all seemed to have a purpose: to their office, to their homes, to their loved ones. But he had nowhere to go. Yes, he did have a place to go. In a small apartment, in a room with receipts from a convenience store scattered on the desk. But it was too vague and uncertain to be called a “place to return.
He fumbled in his pocket for a cigarette. But then he remembered. He had quit smoking a long time ago. Instead, he took out his smartphone and opened the social networking screen. All that poured out were happy pictures of people and angry posts about politics. He sighs deeply and puts his phone away.
Out of the corner of his eye, he sees a woman walking. She was dressed in a black coat and walking slowly, heading somewhere. Watching her, I felt as if there was a “way out” somewhere in this world. A doorway to somewhere other than here.
He started walking. There was no destination, but walking itself could be a purpose.
The world is so shaky. My heart is the same. But there must be a way out somewhere.”
With this thought, he melted into the hustle and bustle of the city.
