If you could plop Seto Kaiba into any show outside of YGO, what would it be and what’s his purpose?
I think it's funnier if there is no dramatic meaningful backstory for TKB's scar. I think he was just robbing a tomb and didn't dodge the giant swinging axeblade from the ceiling fast enough. Fell off of a horse one time. I think he tells a different story about it every time someone asks.

i’d also like to draw attention to ryou in this official volume 18 cover art. that’s joey/jounouchi’s sister he’s talking to. in the Battle City arc, she has just gotten out of the hospital, recovering from surgery, and she came to this tournament to watch her brother duel. ryou, so far, has made an AWFUL first impression, acting all batshit and evil, possessed by an evil gold artifact for the entirety of the tournament
why he is showing her the Evil Ring containing the demon that made him act batshit. unprovoked? with a smile on his face? AND HE’S ALSO STILL WEARING IT??? and she’s just all politely, hey man, that’s not cool. is he trying to explain himself? “see, this ring mind controls me to Love murder, sorry about that” is he just showing her This Cool Artifact? he does love that thing. he also Knows it’s evil. i don’t think they exchanged a word to each other in the arc proper. what the hell did this conversation look like
I think it’s finally time I say it. I don’t think that YuGiOh’s writing is nearly as bad as people on Tumblr act like it is— it’s just a story that you have to read between the lines and pay attention to what’s implied to key into the full picture, and some people simply have yet to know how to do this.
I write and analyze media for a professional living, and have been doing so for years. When I look at YuGiOh’s messy writing, one of two things occur to me. The first is, “Takahashi was dying in the hospital and on a deadline like no other when writing this,” and the second is, “this is a part of the story that isn’t meant to be taken at face value, and what’s implied/has been elaborated on outside of the work itself contributes to the point of the narrative more than the actions alone do.”
Do I think YuGiOh is INCAPABLE of being bad? No. Not at all, good god. See my first point. Shit happens. But, like, I have read worse for less I guess.
Can we have a moment to think about Thief King Bakura holding the Quantum cube and then grabbing Aigami Diva's front and just demanding with every fiber of his being:
"WHAT. IS. THIS. MADE. OF?!?!?!"
