“Away, and mock the time with fairest show: False face must hide what the false heart doth know.”

By luck or chance or fate itself, Fen'harel’s strange bride and little child survive the destruction he wrought upon all of Elvhenan. Now caught up in the machinations of the Inquisition, there proves to be no shortage of hard choices to make, but if the three of them want their world back, something drastic must be done.

it should be illegal to tow a car as punishment and i’m not even kidding

you park in the wrong spot somewhere. maybe at a friend’s apartment complex, or at a store when you’re actually walking somewhere else, or whatever. they could ticket you—still charge you a fine for parking where you’re not supposed to. but instead, in a far more crippling way than a fine (which is already hard enough for low income people), they call a third party and steal your car. so you have lost your means of transportation, which you will only learn the next time you need your car, because they don’t have any need or care to notify you.

so first, you have to figure out which towing company they used. which you can only do if the place that decided your car was in the wrong spot is still open, or if you can get someone on the phone.

assuming you figure out which company towed your car, which one time took me over an hour on its own because the number on the signs warning about towing in the parking lot was a dead number, you then have to figure out how to get there. without a car. god help you if you don’t have someone in your support network to pick you up or public transportation, because most of the time it’s at least a mile away.

you find a way to get there, you call them to see if your car is even really there, and they tell you they won’t give your car back until you pay them. how much? well, it’s not regulated, so they can pretty much say whatever number they goddamn feel like. i recently got towed by a company infamous in my college town and they charged me a whopping $180–half of my paycheck for two weeks during the school year. when the same company towed my brother last year, and we both have the same sized cars, they charged him $300. they don’t have to justify the charge, they don’t have any itemized receipt, because what are you going to do? not pay it? you have to get to work and you’re already short on time because you had to walk to the goddamn towing place or have someone come get you to bring you there or spend an hour on the phone with different people trying to figure out where the fuck your car was in the first place.

it’s extortionate. it’s absolutely insane that they can, without exaggeration, steal someone’s car and hold it for ransom under the assumption that you will pay anything to get it back, because of the extent to which our society is dependent on cars.

We have GOT to stop being assholes to people with receding and balding hairlines. There's not a single person that it can't affect. It affects trans men, particularly on hormones, it affects trans women, particularly those not on hormones, it affects people with endocrine issues, something that's becoming more prevalent and common, and it can affect people without a particular cause, including cis women. It's a normal part of being human and we NEED to stop dehumanizing and humiliating ppl for it

My bf started losing his hair in his early 20s and the effect it's had on him is devastating.

He's an actor and he was dropped by his agent after he stopped hiding his hair loss. The roles he was cast in narrowed and shifted from more heroic characters to villains, and eventually he became so miserable about it that he stopped going to auditions altogether.

He used to enjoy dyeing his hair bright colours, and he lost that means of self expression. It alienated him from his own appearance, which knocked him back in coming out and exploring his queerness. The way he talks about it often feels dysmorphic. He says shaving makes him feel like he's "rotting" - like he's "scraping the mold off [his] head".

I've seen drunk people and teenagers yell at him in the street and mock his baldness. I've seen people come up to him and slap his head or touch it without asking for permission. I've witnessed this behaviour from other trans people and women who I know would absolutely kick off if he took such a degrading or entitled attitude towards a part of their body, but seem to think it's OK to do it to him.

Since going bald people perceive him as more masculine. He feels people are more suspicious of him. Women are less likely to approach him. Folks are quicker to put him in a box or misread his behaviour as aggressive or threatening, when the reality is that he's neurodivergent and can't conform to rigid social norms.

Baldness is a heavily gendered characteristic. If someone is conventionally masculine enough and/or is protected by other intersecting powers and privileges (eg wealth) then baldness can reinforce their maleness and the harm to their social standing is minimised. But if their performance of maleness is complicated by something like queerness or disability, it creates a dissonance. They have what is perceived as a hypermasculine trait standing in sharp contrast with their refusal/failure to perform normative, idealised masculinity.

And that's how baldness is typically read - as failure. Especially when it exists outside of wealthy, successful, heterosexual masculinity but tbh even there too - just look at all the jokes about Jeff Bezos' baldness or Elon Musk getting hair plugs. It's similar to insulting Trump over his weight. Like yeah fuck those guys but all you're really doing is revealing to the fat and bald people in your life that you think their bodies are deserving of mockery.

And God help you if you're a bald woman. All women with receding hairlines are at a huge risk from transmisogyny.

Sorry for the essay. Baldness is absolutely a body neutrality issue. It's an ageism issue, and a trans issue, and I WISH there was a broader recognition of this.

I see a lot of talk about "actually check ins can be so hot" or "scene negotiations can be sooo hot" or whatever and sure, they can be, explicit consent can be hot, but also.

It doesn't have to be.

It's okay if your negotiations are clumsy and awkward, if you kinda slip out of your roles for check ins during scenes, if the consent discussions aren't the hot parts for you. They don't need to be hot. They're necessary for everyone's safety, and having a safe and healthy environment for your kink is infinitely more important than avoiding awkwardness at all costs.

You and your partner(s) are worth the possible awkwardness. Consent is mandatory, even when it isn't sexy.

This is great and a reminder that if your sex (of any kind) gets awkward or silly or clumsy, it's okay and normal and it doesn't have to ruin anything, just go with it. Sometimes sex is clumsy and funny and gross and fun. Accepting that these moments are a normal part of sex will help you have better sex.

in a world where i had infinite space, time, money and assistance i think it would be super cool to breed temperamentally stable, versatile chihuahuas as well, but. you know

Why does this feel like something that would go in a speech bubble above a mad scientist's head.

i actually think many chihuahuas are fantastic little dogs. they suffer primarily from 1) being bred more for size and appearance than for confidence and emotional resilience, and moreover 2) being treated as little stuffed toys or accessories rather than real dogs, and then eventually learning to engage in undesirable behaviors to protect themselves in those situations

i know it's trendy to dunk on them, i think there are a lot more homes today that are appropriate fit for a chihuahua than for popular dog breeds no one bats an eye at (german shepherds, huskies, etc...)

and i think a lot of the common chihuahua behaviors that people have deemed to be the result of some kind of hilarious ontological evil are really just the manifestations of tiny dogs being pervasively mistreated by human beings. which is, you know. deeply unfunny actually

Family owned Italian firm invents solar panels that mimic terracotta tiles to restore heritage buildings

In a small workshop near Vicenza, Italy, artisans make traditional-looking roofing tiles with a hidden difference: Each module contains solar photovoltaic cells.

The Invisible Solar Rooftile is made by an unique indivisible piece, with a very high resistance, that hides and protects the photovoltaic cells that are incorporated inside

The family-owned company that makes the tiles, Dyaqua, started developing its “Invisible Solar” products more than a decade ago. Solar panels “were spreading much faster than before, and our first thought was about heritage cities like Vicenza,” says company spokesperson Elisa Quagliato. The city, a World Heritage Site, is covered in a sea of red terra-cotta roofs.

The tiles have been installed at Pompeii (where the director of the archaeological park says they look “exactly like the terra-cotta tiles used by the Romans”) and in the small Italian town of Vicoforte. A larger installation will soon begin in Evora, Portugal, as part of an EU-funded project that aims to help historic cities “become greener, smarter, and more livable while respecting their cultural heritage.”

The same approach can be used to hide solar in other materials that look like stone, concrete, or wood, and incorporated into walls or patios, not just roofs. And it’s a way to potentially add solar where it wouldn’t otherwise be used.

one time i went up to my friend (also my coworker) and gave him hug from behind and just like held him there for a moment and our one regular client walked in and was like “huh….so are you guys like….winnie the pooh and piglet?” and i lost my fucking mind. what does that mean. i also said yes and that i was pooh.

me and this coworker are now dating and the same client client came into today and was like “sooo winnie the pooh and piglet?” again so we asked him what he meant and apparently those were the only two male fictional characters he could think of that hug

winnie the pooh heritage post

Leftism teaches you that the most annoying people in the world can have the exact same opinions as you. And they'll still get on your nerves

Other leftists will say some shit you fundamentally agree with but phrased in a way designed in a lab specifically to piss you off. Like you're right but shut the fuck up

The Dawn Will Come

Since Dragon Age has been on the brain with all the upcoming releases (!!!), I thought I’d share this comic again. I made it while I was playing Inquisition, but it really hits different after playing Trespasser… 🙃 The sentiment for Swan (my Lavellan) still stands, albeit pretty tragically. There is so much erasure of history for the elves, both by humans and by horrors lost to time, and I think it is the thing he fears the very most about his own legacy.
