Dead on Arrival
Rehearsed incantations drip from your tongue,
oozing out bland and colorless.
Cookie cutter catchphrases,
that inspire like a funeral.
Words that are dead on arrival.

Prompt:
Love like a hungry dog
Hawaiian flowers scream
“Enjoy me now”
So lush they can’t be dried
Before decay
No one pumps embalming fluids
Into their veins
Attempting to drag
Out the inevitable:
The beauty in the ephemeral
We don’t eat the opulent orchid corpses like
We were ordained to be
Preserved in their honey
Accepting -if we’re dead-
Nothing gained by incorruptibility
.
I worry sometimes
That my favorite language
Is going
To die out
With you
.
So perhaps
Today
I do what I can:
Breathe deep
And love you extra doggedly

I’ve been thinking about how Hannibal’s inner urge is being seen by Will, so what does he do when he has to frame him? He forces Abigail’s ear in his throat. This is Hannibal who - if we follow canon - was forced to eat his own little sister. A young girl he felt strong responsibility to, who he felt he had to protect. Who maybe even anchored him to the world.
So he feeds Will a body part belonging to Abigail. In all the horror, Hannibal is desperately saying “this is what made me into what I am and maybe it will make you understand me, but you do not have to endure my pain. Abigail can have what Mischa did not. She can live.” Of course he says that no one made him but come on, he’s not a reliable narrator, we know that.
That’s maybe one of the reasons why he says to Will in Mizumono “I let you know me, see me” and then he kills Abigail. If Will has betrayed him, the lesson has not been thorough. Will needs the real experience, and so he kills Abigail in front of him. It’s not so weird, after all, that as soon as he recovers from the events in Mizumono Will goes to Hannibal’s Castle.
“An autumn whisper between the maples Kept urging: ‘Die with me. Change has made me weary. Fate has cheated me of everything.’”
— Anna Akhmatova, from Song Of The Last Meeting in “Poems: Anna Akhmatova" [translated by D. M. Thomas]
hannibal is so funny cause will graham will be like “the chesapeake ripper ... he’s eating his victims” then it’ll hard cut to hannibal in the kitchen like this
[how beautiful it is to me
to live alongside thee;
to dine on thy emotion
and show thee my devotion.
for who alive can contend?
'tis my honor to defend
all the hairs upon thy head
and thine thoughts within thy bed.]

let me burn
alone and in peace
let me long for you
I cannot carry the weight of your murder tonight

you have told me to move on
