The number of messages I’ve failed to answer across all my devices and media platforms will be weighed against my soul on judgment day, and I will be cast into hell
I hope you know that you are the reason for so many smiles. You bring so much happiness and joy to those around you and you don’t even notice it. You have lit up people’s days simply by being here.
getting into the shower: evil evil evil
being in the shower: there is no past and there is no future, there is just the here and now, i am alone but i am not lonely, i am calm and one with the universe, existence is sublime
getting out of the shower: evil evil evil (wet version)
WHEN WILL THE SONG OF ACHILLES LEAVE MY MIND </3
you want me to wear my boyfriend's clothes. the thing that killed patroclus
I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world
and
name one hero who was happy
and
He is half of my soul, as the poets say
and
When he died, all things soft and beautiful and bright would be buried with him
and
We were like gods at the dawning of the world, & our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.
and
There was more to say, but for once we did not say it. There would be other times for speaking, tonight and tomorrow and all the days after that. He let go of my hand.
Madeline Miller loved the illiad since she was seven, had a her highschool teacher teach her more about it, helped her freind in college to direct a Trojan war play AND went on to write the song of Achilles FOR 10 YEARS. Like, her whole life revolved around it. No wonder she birthed such a masterpiece.
can you believe that the most human trait there is is art? we didn't start making art because it was needed for our survival or it helped us mate or hunt…. we make art for the sake of making it and for you and other people to enjoy it. this is why I love literature and art museums or just looking through my old sketches and stories…. making art is what it means to be human I think.
deleting dating apps so that I can find love the old fashioned way (i get captured by my enemies and tortured for information. you save my life and help me escape. I give you a name because the people who kidnapped you when you were a child never gave you one. we crash on a desert planet and think the other is dead only to be reunited like a day later and run into each other's arms. you're wearing my jacket I tell you to keep it because it suits you.)
“No one is afraid of heights, they are afraid of the fall. No one is afraid of the dark, they are afraid of what’s in it. No one is afraid of love, they are afraid of the broken heart.”
— Unknown
“But what is memory if not the language of feeling, a dictionary of faces and days and smells which repeat themselves like the verbs and adjectives in a speech, sneaking in behind the thing itself, into the pure present, making us sad or teaching us vicariously.”
— Julio Cortazar
“Even the dark needs things to eat. To love. Is there a difference? We consume what we love, its purpose and sustenance. We feast on its glory and sedate ourselves with its beauty.”
— Mabel, Episode Eighteen: Unusual Hungers written by Becca de la Rosa and Mabel Martin (via girlwithouthands)
plays are my favourite medium for tragic stories because you see the sorrow happening to humans right before you in a way you don’t when reading a novel or watching a movie and the act of watching it and grieving with it and finding catharsis in that shared unhappiness is that much more tangible. tragic plays are just deliciously juicy to attend in a way comic plays somehow aren’t as often
sometimes i think about the fact that even people a thousand years ago must have seen the same moon shining above them in the night sky
Observe how the life of this world deceives those around you. It lures into traps of vanity, wealth, and fame, and exalts them above others. This splendor blinds them, and they are lost forever in illusion. But then in one instant, life deals the blow of death, and all is gone, and with the beguiler it stands laughing at their sad end. So overcome your egos that you may be saved from the snares that devoured kings and paupers alike.

“Sometimes you meet someone, and it’s so clear so immediately that the two of you, on some level, belong together. As lovers, or as friends, or as family, or as something entirely different. You just work, whether you’re in love or creating things together or foxhole buddies or partners in crime. It’s so clear, right off the bat, that this is what you’re supposed to be doing, that this is what you’re for. You meet these people throughout your life, out of nowhere, under the strangest of circumstances, and they help you make a life. I don’t know if that makes me believe in coincidence, or fate, or sheer blind luck, but. It definitely makes me believe in something.”
