eagle gay club ≠ eagle nazi symbol. two different eagles but despite all that the eagle in the image does look a lot like the nazi symbol

ive been explaining this fact since i started this blog unfortunately. people will pull up the blurry images i post and pretend that they can identify genuine nazi imagery from a pixelated screenshot. i have the experience and even the education to be able to confidently decide whether or not i am seeing genuine replicas of nazi insignia. i post everything consciously and with awareness. im kind of sick and tired of fielding people accusing the gay and queer women in my posts of perpetuating nazi imagery then watching them mass-reblog tom of finland illustrations. lets be fucking real

there are certain elements of leather style that are direct references to nazi imagery (such as the hats and the use of these eagle insignias)

i don’t think all leather people are aware of this, but artist such as tom of finland and kenith angar very much where when they contributed to the spread of this imagery

do you mean to tell me that you really think this gay woman is deliberately referencing the parteiadler of the nazi party? with direct imagery? being born and raised jewish, fully immersed in european jewish culture, instilled in me a very specific awareness of nazi imagery and antisemitic tropes but sometimes you need to be able to discern between imagery that actually does require your hypervigilance and that which does not. A woman from an S/M educational group wearing an indistinguishable eagle on the back of her vest is in no way comparable to tom of finland’s illustrations of swastika-wearing nazi-roleplayers or the men who fetishize them. you are free to feel uncomfortable and obviously to point out themes prevalent in the leather community but i wish i could see it being approached with more nuance, with the knowledge that not all imagery in leather descends directly from nazi germany, and less targeted towards anonymous women and more towards the men who perpetuate them in their sexual lives and culture 🤷‍♀️
